Conflict in the Middle East

Elon Musk - what’s his plan?

Thereissomelight · 27/11/2023 23:13

Having been accused of antisemitism, Elon, the free-speech champion, spent today in the company of Netanyahu watching videos of Hamas atrocities and hearing about Netanyahu’s vision for the Middle East.
I have (I thought) a lot of respect for Elon. Does he have a plan for world peace? Did the US ask him to intervene? (as clearly, despite being “anti-Semitic”, he has the ear of Netanyahu).
Or is he simply bowing to the consumer and trying to keep his numbers up on X? I hope not, but what are peoples’ views?

Elon tells advertising blackmailers to “Go fuck yourselves” during live interview.

Go Elon!

The fact that Elon Musk is so obscenely rich that it doesn’t matter at all to him if Twitter goes bankrupt, is not a point to admire.

Thereissomelight · 02/12/2023 16:44

Just good to see that there are people who can hold out against being told what they can and can’t say. No matter by whom.

Who is stopping anyone from saying anything?

Toothyfruity · 02/12/2023 16:50

Elon stops certain people saying plenty of things on twitter.

Rather than being disingenuous I meant.

If you’re genuinely interested rather than being ingenuous you can read the below. Or just Google Elon Musk.

I'm still confused - who is stopping him saying anything?

Or do you mean he expects to be able to say anything he likes, and no one is supposed to react in any way, other than positively?

As the billionaire owner of a global communications platform, who met the UK PM last week and is constantly interviewed, and whose opinions and direct quotes fill column inches on a daily basis - how exactly is he being stopped from saying anything?

I mean he was literally on TV telling people to fuck off last week. How many other people have such opportunities?

Do you see what I'm saying at all?

Thereissomelight · 02/12/2023 17:09

Advertisers threatened to withhold advertising on X unless Elon blocked content that they personally weren’t happy with. Which he has refused to do.

I don’t know how to phrase it more simply I’m afraid.

So, he refused to do what they wished, and so they looked at their own interests and decided to keep to their word and took their business elsewhere.

That's just capitalism isn't it?

He is free to carry on saying what he likes.

There's is no government censoring, no threat of jail to him.

He is free to continue saying what he likes.

Isn't he?

Thereissomelight · 02/12/2023 17:31

Hopefully.

Advertisers are of course free to pull whatever ads they want. They have free speech and agency. The large agents pulling many advertisers at once from X will have anticipated that this will put X out of business. Hopefully this won’t be the case and X will continue to be a platform for free speech - for all, not just for some.

Very few people are rich enough to stand up to the relatively small group of very wealthy men who use their influence to decide who will lose jobs and businesses on their say so. Elon Musk is one of these who can and will stand up to them. I think it’s important that such people exist.

Telling your biggest advertisers to fuck themselves because they called out your antisemitism, real big brain business move that, what a genius.

I do wonder whether he's deliberately trying to tank twitter because he's still in a huff about being forced to buy it. But then never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity, so who knows.

CremeEggThief · 02/12/2023 17:50

Why on earth would anyone have any respect for Elon Musk, let alone a lot as you claim, OP? How bizarre!

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/12/2023 17:57

I agree with you OP. Elon Musk is not antisemitic and only those who uncritically accept everything they are spoon fed, believe that he is. It’s all so tiresome having to keep seeing these righteous assertions being made based on biased information. X is the only place telling the truth right now, community comments are brilliant and rigorously enforce accurate information. Anyone worth listening to agrees, those who don’t are the ones trying to bring it down. I hope he and X remain, they’re desperately needed.

So you admit that no one is censoring Elon Musk, and that he's not a victim, he's actually one of the richest and most powerful people in the world.

He also seems to be fighting for the rights of racists to say racist things on his own platform. That is his perogative, no one is stopping him.

I don't understand why you agree with his opinion that he should be immune from the normal consequences of his speech, ie. people who don't like what he says choosing not to do business with him?

Surely that is a part of freedom of speech - you are free to say what you like, even if what you say might hurt other people's feelings, or make them want to distance themselves from you as a result.

The people hearing you don't have to pretend to like what you're saying, or continue to be associated with you afterwards.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism.

He said a post that said Jewish people are pushing hatred against white people and promoted the great replacement theory is the actual truth.

megletthesecond · 02/12/2023 18:13

I don't think he has a plan. Just what he fancies doing or saying each day when he gets up.

Sorry idk what happened there!

@BethDuttonsTwin He seems to support the conspiracy theory of the Great Replacement (a rehash of old nazi ideas). Do you not think this is antisemitic?

Thereissomelight · 02/12/2023 18:39

He clarified that his post was directed against the ADL with whom he has had a long-standing issue. He sees them as being racist and they have often tried to control what is said on X.

What examples has he given showing ADL has often tried to control what is said on twitter?

Musk is the one in charge, who fires/bans/blocks people on there that he doesn't like or disagrees with.

How would the ADL have such power to control his personally-owned platform?

Thereissomelight · 02/12/2023 18:55

I’m not your employee so you’ll have to look that up yourself. The information is freely available.

What has “I’m deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest shit now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don’t exactly like them too much” have to do with the ADL?

ILoveToads · 02/12/2023 19:08

@Thereissomelight

You keep referring to Elon as being intelligent, have you read any books on him which explain how he had piggybacked on other people's inventions and expertise?

He himself is not a great innovator, he is a somewhat good marketer of himself. Almost like a cult leader.

Ah. You don't have any examples of the ADL censoring twitter. Ok.

That's because they don't exist. Musk has not given a single example of the ADL stopping anyone doing anything on twitter.

Perhaps you should do a bit more reading on this.

Thereissomelight · 02/12/2023 19:18

@basculin
The words you quote are not Elon Musk’s words.

In several interviews, Musk has said his endorsement was related to the part of the poster’s comment that said that Jews were pushing the hatred against whites that they claimed was being pushed against them. Musk went on to clarify in subsequent posts that not all Jews were racist to whites (and others) but that he did find the ADL to be racist. He has a history with the ADL attempting to limit certain kinds of speech on X.

His interviews are all available to watch and listen to. You don’t need to make things up.
