It's always so depressing what I post - do look for the tiny bits of good news but none recently
Equally lost for words and think many others are too

Yes, it is very depressing. I just want this to stop. ☹️

From the article

Dr Abu Sabha told the BBC that detainees were routinely punished for perceived infractions. "At one point, the blindfold moved down a bit and my hands were handcuffed from behind and I could not fix it.

"They took me out for punishment… I was standing with my hands raised above my head and my face looking down for three hours. Then, he [a soldier] asked me to come to him. When I did, he kept hitting my hand until it was broken."
Later that day, he was taken to the toilet, beaten, and had muzzled dogs set on him, he said.

The day after, an Israeli doctor fitted him with a cast and then soldiers drew a Star of David on it, he said. This cast was later changed by a doctor in Gaza and Ahmed was wearing a cast during his interview with the BBC.

The BBC confirmed that Dr Abu Sabha had an X-ray and sought treatment for a broken hand at a field hospital in Gaza after his detention, and that he arrived there in a cast with a Star of David drawn on it.

In the meantime they refused to let the staff bury the deceased to the point where the bodies started to decompose

Multiple medics said that the IDF would not grant them permission to bury or even move the bodies of patients who died in the aftermath of the operation. The bodies remained inside with staff and patients as they began to decompose, the medics said.
"The smell filled the whole department," Dr Rabaa said. "Patients were screaming 'please remove them from here'. I was telling them 'it isn't in my hands'."

Thanks @Parkingt111 and @EasterIssland for posting the 2 BBC articles on the fall of Nasser hospital

Grim reading. And shameful behaviour

From prcs

The Israeli occupation forces released yesterday the PRCS volunteer, Tamer Fouad Salim Al-Qarm, after a 36-day detention during the occupation's raid on Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis. Meanwhile, the occupation continues to detain 13 PRCS members and volunteers, whose fate remains unknown to this moment

Just saw Hamas has released a video showing how they’ve killed the idf member that sieged the Al-Shifa hospital

New 'precise' attack on al- Shifa overnight as said by IDF to be still being used by Hamas - no prior evacuations and large fire set at the entrance making it difficult to leave. IDF have detained 80 people

Israel launches raid on al-Shifa hospital

The Israeli army has launched an operation around Gaza’s largest hospital, al-Shifa, saying in a statement that it is “based on intelligence information indicating the use of the hospital by senior Hamas terrorists”. The IDF also described the operation as “precise”.

In the wake of the raid, Palestinian health authorities say there is now a fierce fire burning in one of the buildings.

Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry says the blaze broke out at the entrance of the complex, causing cases of suffocation among displaced women and children in the hospital. It said communication had been cut off, with people trapped inside the surgery and emergency units of one of the buildings.

“There are casualties, including deaths and injuries, and it’s impossible to rescue anyone due to the intensity of the fire and targeting of anyone approaching the windows,” the ministry said, accusing Israeli forces of “another crime against health institutions”.

The Israeli military says soldiers entering the compound were fired on,and hits were identified. Our troops are continuing to operate in the area of the hospital.”

Neither the IDF’s nor the Hamas claims could immediately be verified.

I have just seen this. More horrors after horrors. A mother who lived near al shifa hospital went to look for food. She came back to find her house bombed and her children trapped under the rubble, no idea if they are alive or dead.

IDF claiming to have killed senior Hamas at Al-Shifa as reason for the assault on the hospital

In a statement, the IDF said:

Eliminated: Faiq Mabhouh, head of the Operations Directorate of Hamas’ Internal Security. Mabhouh was hiding in a compound at the Shifa hospital, from which he operated and advanced terrorist activity.

Can we just take one big step of abstraction back and look at the bigger picture here for a second, please?!

Months ago: "nooooooo, Israel would never! First of all, there wasn't any such thing as any actual bombing of Al-Ahli hospital ... and if there was, it wasn't us!"

Next up: "there is a Hamas command centre under Shifa hospital - look, we made a fancy 3d animation!"

These days: [just casually bombing, raiding, otherwise targeting hospitals]

Call me insane, but I genuinely think we're being systematically conditioned to think this sort of stuff is "normal" and "par for the course". (It really fucking isn't! These are war crimes!)

Molymoly · 18/03/2024 17:28

Totally agree.

And at best for marginal military gains at horrific expense in terms of innocent lives.

To paraphrase pro Israeli analyst Nicholas Kristof, if there genuinely was an element of Hamas reconstituting itself in the midst of the devastation of Al Shifa,
then this illustrates that attacking this facility is a pointless exercise. Hamas or some extremist successor will just reconstitute elsewhere in Gaza wherever they try to eradicate it.

And if Israel can’t evacuate 30,000 civilians and keep them safe , it’s just lying about being able to protect more than a million civilians in Raffah .

From motaz

The Israeli forces detained all the doctors in Al Shifa hospital.
ICU patients are left without any medical care.
All the doctors they arrested were stripped and humiliated.

While I do not - never have, never will - support violence against civilians:

Are you not, perhaps, neglecting to mention what "Gush Etzion" means?

"Gush Etzion" is a cluster of illegal settlements on the West Bank - whose residents have been known to terrorise and violently expel Palestinian villagers in the area. "Gush Etzion" was also one of the largest land grabs in the history of the occupation.

No, that does not make it alright to hurt civilians - but also: it was not alright and is, in fact, illegal under international law for those guys to have been "civilians"* there in the first place!

** I have never met a settler without an M-16; perhaps they exist, I just have not met any ...

Well that’s pretty much a death sentence for the ICU patients then isn’t it. Wonder what they did to deserve this cruelty, or is their only crime living in Gaza.

Edited

Whilst probably there are some terrorists between those pics … I’m going to have to take this link with a pinch of salt. It’s not the first time idf accuses any man of belonging to Hamas and then having to backtrack because they didn’t belong to Hamas. Seems to idf that any man is Hamas member.

Mushroomsouptonight · 21/03/2024 22:08

Indeed. I imagine some of them are, not sure how many. Hamas are still operating so they are there somewhere. Difficult job to work out the innocent civilians and the men who are hamas. I wish they would just surrender and let peacekeepers help rebuild Gaza. It doesn't seem Israel will stop until it has all hamas and hamas won't surrender so on it goes to the detriment of children and other innocent people.
