Al Awda hospital in northern gaza has been subject to air-strikes on 3 consecutive days - thought that there were no functioning hospitals in n gaza but maybe like Al Shifa it's been revived by WHO/UN and was limping along providing a limited service

Another health care worker killed.
From the PRCS

Our colleague Hidaya Hamad, the Director of the Youth and Volunteers Department in Gaza, was killed due to the occupation's gunfire while she was present at the PRCS's headquarters in #KhanYunis.

I am lost for words at the continuous systematic attacks at the health care system in Gaza.

Toothyfruity · 02/02/2024 20:45

@Parkingt111 decent people can never understand what they're doing. It's beyond belief.

Below a message from the DG of the WHO.

Another paramedic murdered

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said a paramedic colleague, Mohammed Al-Omari, was killed, and two other paramedics were injured after Israeli occupation forces directly fired at them in Gaza City while they were transferring several wounded individuals from al-Ahli Baptist hospital in preparation for their transfer to hospitals in the south.
The PRCS have shared updates of the situation in Gaza on its X account. Another post by the humanitarian organisation said on Wednesday that two people had been injured at the PRCS al-Amal hospital, including one patient by the direct firing from the vehicles of Israeli forces positioned at the gate of the hospital in Khan Younis. “This comes amidst the ongoing siege and continuous targeting of the hospital for the seventeenth consecutive day,” said the PRCS

I have lost count now on how many medics and healthcare workers have been killed in Gaza.
Also lost count on how many times hospitals have been attacked as for many hospitals there has been numerous attacks

When they aren’t just targeting journalists … they’re busy targeting doctors and nursers etc!

The PRCS confirmed that the IDF did storm Al Amal hospital yesterday and have taken away some of their staff

Parkingt111 · 10/02/2024 09:23

Occupation forces raided Al-Amal Hospital for approximately ten hours, during which they conducted a search of the hospital, damaged some equipment, furniture, and appliances, detained, interrogated, beat, and humiliated the teams, and prevented them and patients’ companions from drinking and using the bathroom.

Parkingt111 · 10/02/2024 09:23

Urgent: Update regarding the detained teams from Al-Amal Hospital:
Israeli Occupation forces have arrested eight PRCS team members at Al-Amal Hospital, including four doctors, as well as four wounded individuals and five patients’ companions.

I'm genuinely very stressed by the thought of the backlash I'm going to get for posting this so it's possible I won't be back to read any potential replies, but I think it's important to bear in mind that there does seem to be some truth behind what the IDF has been claiming. I can't access the New York Times article and I know a lot of you won't read anything from Israeli media unless it's Haaretz so maybe have a look yourselves and see if it's mentioned somewhere that you find more reliable.

I'm not making any kind of judgement about the IDFs actions at this or other hospitals. Obviously there have been far too many deaths and injuries as a result of it all. I'm just saying there seems to be some truth behind their claims about Hamas using the tunnels under the hospital.

I can’t currently find it anywhere neither. I think many of us will/wont believe this and at the same time we know the fact that Hamas hides in these tunnels and so (there are videos from them hiding in then). What we mainly criticise is the need of destroying the hospitals and kill doctors , civilians etc. whilst finding these tunnels is good , it’d be even better if
1 Hamas members were arrested

  1. Their weapons retrieved
  2. No hospitals and equipment was destroyed (I’ve seen A video about the way a hospital was left behind after idf left and there was no need for it … there were graffities , the ceiling and equipment broken )
  3. No doctors , civilians killed

if the 4 from above happened then it’d be a success finding these tunnels. But it’s not.

Humdingerydoo · 13/02/2024 22:12

I guess this was the bit that struck me the most

"Israeli forces found the tunnel under the medical center by following ducts that ran from rooftop air-conditioning units connected to the hospital’s electricity supply, the report said. The IDF also discovered the hospital’s water supply was connected to the tunnel."

The implication being that people at the hospital (although obviously not everyone) must have known, which is something I've seen continuously and vehemently denied on here previously. Admittedly that was a while ago as I've steered well clear of this thread and it's predecessors for a while.

I appreciate you explaining your position rather than going on the offensive though. Thank you.

PeasfullPerson · 13/02/2024 22:14

I think that @EasterIssland pretty much sums it up there. I’d be interested to read more if anyone finds anything. I have to say I’m concerned that any evidence found will be used to try and justify actions that can never be excused.

Parkingt111 · 13/02/2024 22:14

I actually read the Times of Israel quite often for updates in regards to the war. I prefer their reporting over haaretz. I think it's more central, neither right wing or left wing.

PeasfullPerson · 13/02/2024 22:17

Do you think so @Parkingt111? You must have read it more than me. I was quite annoyed with their reporting the other day of over 10,000 members of Hamas being killed, and conveniently no mention of the number of children.

Parkingt111 · 13/02/2024 22:19

@PeasfullPerson I take some things with a pinch of salt and I won't deny that at times I do feel there is a bias but generally I feel the reporting style is less opinionated and more just presenting who said what.

Parkingt111 · 13/02/2024 22:22

Like the article posted by @Humdingerydoo was just mostly re-hashing the NYT's article without forcing their own opinion on to the readers.

Parkingt111 · 13/02/2024 22:27

My issue is that the NYT's article have based this piece only on the IDF's intelligence. The IDF took reporters to the tunnels under Al-Shifa themselves after they first raided the hospital. The initial findings which they showed were viewed with some sceptism by the reporters, remember the BBC piece on it? So why didn't they show any of this evidence that is being reported now?

Parkingt111 · 13/02/2024 22:38

@Humdingerydoo although this may have been expanded on, the underground bunkers under Al shifa hospital were actually built by Israel. Or helped to build by Israeli contractors. Which is why it doesn't come as much of a suprise that the IDF found a bunker there or other rooms. It was said in an interview by ex Israeli PM around the time of the raid.

Parkingt111 · 13/02/2024 22:47

@Humdingerydoo last post as I'm off to sleep, but just to say that I hope the above posts are not taken as backlash to your post or in a mean way but just some of my thoughts which I may be right or wrong about

Humdingerydoo · 13/02/2024 22:50

Oh believe me, I'm well aware. I had that rammed down my throat multiple times which is why I stayed off this thread for so long as people just kept repeating it as though that made it ok for terrorists to be using it. It's not the bunkers that are of concern, it's how they've been used, by whom, and what they are connected to. Also of great concern is who was aware of what it was all being used for. The article also seems to suggest that the IDF didn't tell (or possibly didn't even know?! I'm unsure) the full story originally and that NYT have come across further details from classified documents 🤷🏻‍♀️ That there are way more tunnels connected to the hospital than originally claimed.

I'm very curious how NYT came across supposedly classified documents but I doubt we'll ever find out.
