The last I read was Kamal Adwan hospital in the north had come under fire and now also no longer functioning

I don't think there are any hospitals in the north remaining which are functioning at full capacity

The focus is now as you said in first aid and on how and where to bury the dead

There's also animals that have been injured or died.

I saw a horse this morning half trapped under the rubble, alive but severely injured.

Silence1 · 07/12/2023 14:12

Its awful about the animals as well. Peoples pets, the working horses and donkeys
Israel is destroying infrastructure and any idea of social cohesion. Again this idea mirrors the German's plans for the Polish in WW2 (that I read about on the Holocaust Museum site).

Toothyfruity · 07/12/2023 14:19

I just saw horrendous footage of the aftermath of those scumbags bombing a school. Dead children and adults. A cat sitting on a dead man's body. An UNWRA school near the Indonesian hospital apparently.

I'm despairing.

Parkingt111 · 07/12/2023 16:38

@Toothyfruity hundreds have been killed in the last 24 hours
In all parts of Gaza
There's some horrific images coming out
It's not bearable to see

Efacsen · 07/12/2023 16:40

UNWRA saying just as much a problem distributing aid as amount being allowed into Gaza

May be another 36 hours before UNSC meets

''The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, spoke with Israel’s strategic affairs minister Ron Dermer today, a senior US state department official has said.

During the call, Blinken conveyed that Israel needs to do more to protect civilians in its offensive in southern Gaza, Reuters reported.

Blinken also urged Dermer to let Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza while welcoming its decision to let more fuel into the territory, the official said.

@Efacsen is it because of the shelling and fighting that its becoming difficult to distribute the aid?

Efacsen · 07/12/2023 16:50

@Parkingt111 yes mainly - too dangerous for the drivers, roads destroyed and booby-trapped, roads closed by IDF - UN workers unable to get in to workplace

But also movement of people and lack of comms make it difficult to know where to deliver aid if they can even get there

It sounds horribly chaotic

And IDF are blaming UN for being dis-organised

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 07/12/2023 16:57

@Efacsen they are right about the roads
Alot of the ones around the main cities and hospitals seem destroyed
The bombing is also non stop so it would be extremely difficult

I have seen reports that after the last 48 hours there are many trapped under the rubble that haven't been rescued too

Efacsen · 07/12/2023 17:04

@Parkingt111 yes search and rescue breaking down and lack of tools/lifting equipment - plus something about the buildings in Khan Younis being of a different construction so harder to reach people under huge flat slabs of concrete [not describing that very well] Can see what I mean on some of the photos

WHO chief is concerned about Al Awdah hospital as it has been surrounded by the military
There are still 35 patients and many staff stuck inside
Every hospital I have read about that is still functioning are in horrific conditions and close to collapsing

Mainly about Al Shifa [bombed front of hospital 3]
Efacsen · 08/12/2023 05:43

@Parkingt111 it's difficult too find anything remotely re-assuring about the state of hospitals or healthcare atm - in a somewhat bizarre intervention yesterday the Hamas health director was suggesting that the ]besieged] staff from Al Awda move to Al Shifa in an attempt to re-open it as many injured patients arriving there are only receiving first aid because they have no surgeons. Desperate all round

Another field hospital is due to go up in Rafah today

Efacsen · 08/12/2023 06:01

I won't re-post the whole summary about the Article 99 UNSC meeting later today which I've already posted elsewhere

The important but not encouraging bit is

UN security council to meet Friday and vote on Gaza ceasefire

But the outcome of a vote is not clear – four earlier drafts presented since the war broke out were rejected by the security council.

The United States, Israel’s most powerful ally, which vetoed one of the earlier draft resolutions and rejects the idea of a ceasefire, has said a new resolution from the council at this stage would not be “useful.”

And this from Blinken on IDF keeping civilians safe - must say Blinken looked awful yesterday like he'd aged 10 years in the last week

''US secretary of state Antony Blinken said there was a gap between the Israeli government’s declared intentions to protect civilians and the mounting casualties seen on the ground.''

Parkingt111 · 08/12/2023 08:40

@Efacsen I'm not suprised about Blinken. The BBC have referred it to the US's strongest criticism of Israel so far

The casualties are mounting and now I have seen that large fires have broken out after the shelling of the Jabaliya camp where many of the displaced are sheltering which will result In more deaths and injuries

Parkingt111 · 08/12/2023 08:42

We are surrounded by tanks that are firing smoke and fire bombs at a shelter on Abu Zaitoun Street in the Jabalia camp, which is home to 15,000 displaced people.
“For more than three hours, the violent bombardment has not stopped, and ambulances cannot get here: All hospitals in northern Gaza are out of service.
“Fires broke out in many buildings in the camp, terrifying thousands of displaced people who fled their homes to seek shelter in UN schools.”

Parkingt111 · 08/12/2023 08:43

I can't believe this
Shooting fire bombs in a refugee camp where thousands of women and children are sheltering

Truly awful

And how on earth does can that be taking care not to harm civilians!

Hope Blinken and co are watching that 'gap' widen before they veto the UNSC ceasefire resolution

Still not being mindful of not damaging healthcare facilities

PRCS@PalestineRCS A short while ago, Israeli occupation aircraft targeted a house near Al-Amal Hospital and the PRCS HQ in #KhanYonis.

The bombardment led to the shattering of glass and the breaking of doors and windows, in addition to extreme panic among 14,000 displaced people who are taking shelter inside PRCS facilities.

Al-Amal Hospital received dozens of injuries and martyrs as a result of this targeting.

Parkingt111 · 08/12/2023 11:34

The PRCS have also said and showed a video where the IDF prevented them today from reaching civilians who were injured in the West bank today

I have seen the shift how at the start of the war these actions would garner great condemnation whereas now it has just become something normal that is happening regularly

Efacsen · 09/12/2023 09:34

Little or no 'hospital news' except the awful photos of injured children unless it's bad news

‘Catastrophic’ scenes at southern Gaza hospital

The director of the European Hospital in Khan Younis has spoken to Al Jazeera about the situation at the facility.

Here are his translated comments:

  • The situation at the hospital is catastrophic
  • Two paramedics were injured in an Israeli bombing
  • Dozens of injured and sick in the hospital are lying on the ground waiting for treatment
  • There are injured people on the streets who are unable to reach the hospital.

Apparently many injured/dead cannot be reached due to on-going Israeli tank-fire and continued heavy bombing

More bad news about healthcare

Medics at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis say they are overwhelmed as fighting continues in the city in southern Gaza. The hospital boss told the BBC his team had "lost control" as hundreds of dead and wounded people reached the facility

Parkingt111 · 09/12/2023 14:49

Lack of medical supplies, food and clean water

They can't cope anymore
When the UN head said it will reach a point of no return he was absolutely correct

Parkingt111 · 09/12/2023 14:52

Civilians with severe injuries are being treated with inadequate supplies they have left in corridors and dirty floors as there is no space for them

Edited

The thing that gets to me the most about this is that it was done on purpose. Israel have purposefully dismantled pretty much all health care and their buddies in the UK and the US just shrug about it. How can that not be a war crime? How can they condone war crimes? It's mindblowing.

Just saw on Twitter that idf have killed several pregnant women in a hospital they’re currently raiding
