This is a bit confusing the way it is written but seems to be about another hostage Eden Zakaria found deceased

Army retrieves bodies of two Israelis in Gaza

The Israeli army said in on its Telegram channel that it recovered the bodies of Eden Zakaria and Ziv Dado. Their families have been informed after they were identified by experts, the army said.

Zakaria, 27, was taken from the Re’im music festival and Dado, 36, was a soldier killed while serving in the Golani Brigades 51st Battalion.

Oh no! The eejits are flooding tunnels according to WSJ

The Israeli military has reportedly begun pumping seawater into Gaza’s tunnel system, with some critics warning that such a move could hurt Gaza’s freshwater supply, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The Israeli military has said such tunnels are where Hamas is hiding fighters, hostages, and weapons, the Journal reported. The process of destroying the tunnels by pumping in seawater could take weeks.

Israel’s military did not immediately provide comment on the report to Reuters.

@Efacsen what a disaster if true
Not only could it damage the water supply but also weaken the ground leading to the collapse of buildings

stormy4319trevor · 12/12/2023 19:43

@Efacsen Unbelievable. That is stupid and incredibly callous. I wonder if our UK politicians will express any concern. Or the US.

@Parkingt111 really hope it's not true !!

Kaffeebitte · 12/12/2023 20:18

Gaza reports on twitter is saying Hamas leaders have been told to leave Qatar for Algeria

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 20:19

Key points for today's resolution that will be voted on

  • It demands “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire”
  • It reiterates that “all parties comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, notably with regard to the protection of civilians”
  • It also calls for the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as ensuring humanitarian access
stomachameleon · 12/12/2023 21:12

@Parkingt111 I am pleased it seems balanced and gets in that access to the hostages is needed/ ensured.

@Kaffeebitte I hope that is true. I know Qatar have done a lot with regard to negotiations but personally I find it a hard pill to swallow whilst Hamas hierarchy reside there.

Kaffeebitte · 12/12/2023 21:15

@Stomacharmeleon it may make it much harder to negotiate with them though. Although it looks like the Israeli Govt have given up on the hostages anyway at this stage with flooding the tunnels.

stormy4319trevor · 12/12/2023 21:32

The draft resolution has passed.

OP posts:
stomachameleon · 12/12/2023 21:35

@Kaffeebitte the sources I have seen/ read suggest the tunnels flooded will be ones already searched/ sealed/ not used. So they can't go back to them.

153 member states voted in favour, 10 against and there were 23 abstentions.

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 21:39

This was the result for the last one that happened in October
So it can be seen that since then more countries have backed a ceasefire

October ceasefire resolution vote:
121 votes in favour, 14 against and 44 abstentions.

December (todays):
153 member states voted in favour, 10 against and there were 23 abstentions

stormy4319trevor · 12/12/2023 21:40

@Parkingt111 I think the UK abstained. I'm glad it passed, Some hope for peace, now I wonder what it can do,

I hope it leads to action. To Israel’s bombs stopping and guns going silent.

stormy4319trevor · 12/12/2023 21:41

That is progress then, as more now in favour.

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 22:00

stomachameleon · 12/12/2023 22:16

@Parkingt111 I am not surprised by that. Are you?

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 22:17

While I hope, I am like you in thinking realistically Israel will ignore it because the US voted against which means they still have a green light from Genocide Joe.
