I see they are releasing more hostages today. Thank goodness.

LittleMsTellTheTruth · 26/11/2023 06:01

Has the Palestinian hostages been released?
Why is there so little news about them?

Efacsen · 26/11/2023 06:38

Yes all 39 were released to their relieved families and great jubilation on the streets

It was around midnight so expect most posters were asleep

Lots on the various newsfeeds tho'

FromEden · 26/11/2023 06:41

The Palestinians are prisoners, not "hostages"

mids2019 · 26/11/2023 07:01

@FromEden .

Exactly. Some of the Palestinians released are convicted with charges related to terrorism. It did make me uneasy watching them celebrate and also what they could be capable of in the future.

One of the hostages, Maya Regev, has reportedly been taken to hospital in a "complex medical condition" but it doesn't seem that her life is in danger. She is 21 and was kidnapped from the music festival, where she was shot. Her brother is still a hostage I think.

I looked her up to see why she might have been released and she was shot at the festival (she rang her Dad), so hopefully some of the injured are making it onto the lists as well.

i really hope this starts to have a real momentum and prevents Israel returning to bombing. Hamas are gaining from it too so hopefully won’t want to end it either.

I honestly think with the bombing of Gaza this isn’t such an issue as there’s an entire generation who will have been radicalised now . There are bigger issues to confront to try and secure the future for that region.

Efacsen · 26/11/2023 09:05

13 hostages and 30 prisoners to be released later today

Hopefully will go more smoothly than yesterday

’Charges related to terrorism’ can include actions such as throwing a stone and self-defence. Throwing stones can have a sentence of up to 20 years in prison!

Any actual prisoners who have committed serious crimes should not be released but many of those being released have been detained indefinitely for trivial offences.

So many people are dehumanising these Palestinian prisoners as evil terrorists!

Oh no they are not! They are oppressed individuals with humanitarian rights. They would never dream of inflicting harm on others. They are not being radicalised in the slightest.

Today's 'trivial' offence is tomorrow's suicide bomb.

Plus the fact, obviously, that a lot of them weren't "trivial" offences to begin with. And a lot of the prisoners are affiliated with Hamas or other terrorist organisations. I don't understand why some posters consistently keep missing these little fun facts. It's almost like it doesn't fit their narrative. But that would be insane, because they're on the right side of history so obviously wouldn't want murderers or attempted murderers out on the street.

Update on Maya Regev's injuries

Haaretz is reporting that Maya Regev, a released hostage that Hamas had seized durings its assault on the Supernova music festival, “will need to undergo surgery in the future”. It quotes the director of Soroka Medical Centre, where she has been taken, saying “we expect her to make a full recovery”. There were no further details.

How the Hamas attack on the Supernova festival in Israel unfolded

Thousands of young people were partying at dawn when Palestinian militants opened fire

Oh yes those little fun facts. What a perfect way of describing it. Marie from Maidstone, sat in her cosy jim jams with a cappucino, can express all the sympathy in the world for Palestinians. She however, cannot express empathy for the overall situation in Gaza. The bigger picture won't compute with our Marie, where radicalisation starts from testing small incidents aimed at those protecting Israel.

I’ve acknowledged the fact that many of these prisoners will have committed actual crimes. I’m not blind to that fact or to the evil of Hamas. You are also missing ‘fun’ facts to fit your narrative like the fact that some of these people are in prison for decades for throwing a stone! It’s not as black and white as Israel good, Palestine bad as you seem to be suggesting, surely you would want anyone who’s been detained wrongly or unfairly to be released?

If someone has been detained wrongly or unfairly, of course they should be released.

Reallifelurker · 26/11/2023 09:50

Netanyahu propping up Hamas is probably my favourite “fun fact”

Stomacharmeleon · 26/11/2023 09:53

@Ixxy1980 I am not sure any of them have been there 'decades' for stone throwing as they aren't old enough. We know generally why the women are there.

I don't agree that anyone should stay in prison for years without being tried but Israel is not unique like that (hard stare to America)

I do sympathise with radicalised children being detained. If a child was continually throwing stones at the army here I would wonder what their parents were doing? Or what they were being taught. It's all very David and Goliath but when it results is possibly being shot is it worth it?

The only thing I strongly disagree with is the use of the word 'hostage' and the constant baiting of others on these threads by using it. I see no comparison when I look at those babies and small children who have still yet to be released. I really feel Hamas has the clock ticking with that situation.

But your original comment seemed to minimise or dismiss the fact that some of them are terrorists and prisoners for good reason. Can you tell me the name of just one Palestinian prisoner in there for decades for throwing a stone?

Gettingcolder · 26/11/2023 10:05

"Throwing stones" makes the offence sound much less serious than it often is. Wikipedia reports st least 14 deaths in Israel from stone throwing Often the throwing is done using slingshots, as depicted by Banksy, that can be very accurate and cause serious injuries. I don't think the offence should be trivialised or dismissed.

People were saying it is cruel of Israel to forbid celebrations of the released Palestinian prisoners.
Unfortunately, this is why:

Heaven forbid these posters ever watch a person being stoned to death. They can't fathom the representation of stone throwing. They equate it to school kids harmlessly playing.

Great news about the hostages being released.
