Why are schools allowing/enabling students to do this?
Is it part of what schools should do, promoting frankly one-sided protest? And what will they decide to march about next? Just imagine being a Jewish student in the middle of this.
I find it sinister.

'Hundreds' of schoolchildren join pro-Palestine protest in Tower Hamlets

Thursday's march forms part of Friday's "National School Strike for Palestine" initiative

@Certainfailure not wanting to start an argument but I was suprised you took an issue with children wearing free palestine hoodies. Why are you so against that?
I have known about the struggles of the Palestinians since I was a child. As a muslim it is a part of our history with the significance of the holy land and Al aqsa
Why does that concern you?

It's funny how when it's minority kids, they're being indoctrinated and forced. When it's white parents, teaching their kids about white peoples wars (Ukraine), its just parenting.
Unbelievable amount of racism, Islamophobia and xenophobia on this thread.

This!!!

Certainfailure · 18/11/2023 10:57

@Parkingt111 6 year old children having to publicise their parents beliefs ? Doubt a six year old child understands the nuances of the debate. If it’s taught in school fair enough, no bias.
As a Muslim were you taught about the holocaust and the need for a Jewish state in a balanced way ?

Certainfailure · 18/11/2023 11:00

@Parkingt111 the fact that British Jews are not able to declare their religion in public because of a minority of trouble seeking anti semites is pretty telling. Many Jews in the UK and US are removing Magen David necklaces and such like because of verbal abuse. That your community feels entirely comfortable declaring where you stand suggests you are not fearful of this.

Finlesswonder · 18/11/2023 11:01

If these kids are from London then why are they being encouraged to march "for their people" in Palestine?

Parkingt111 · 18/11/2023 11:05

@Certainfailure as I said it wasn't to start an argument or debate
Was just curious to hear why you think so

Why are we so shocked that parents teach their kids stuff? Ever seen kids wearing a crucifix, a rainbow flag at pride, a hijab, my DS has a "there's no planet b" tshirt. Does he understand the intricacies of the oil and gas industry/global politics and capitalism? Of course not, hes 6. Obviously parents teach their kids what they believe. Good parents also teach them to use their own brains when they get older. It's not different just because they're brown and Muslim. Unbelievable.

Good example of why french secularism in schools is a great idea, so they can catch a break from parents brainwashing

etmoiandme · 18/11/2023 11:14

Sadly, this is the consequence of wearing a specifically Jewish (i.e. not Israeli but Jewish) necklace in London now

It is awful, and what happened was anti-semitic (I hope they reported it).
Their last line is disingenuous and divisive, although I think most will see through such language, now.

It's really interesting that my post is the one you chose for that response, and not @etmoiandme or @Certainfailure
Almost like your double standards are showing.

Parkingt111 · 18/11/2023 11:20

@etmoiandme that is terrible. I would like to have hoped that other people would have defended that person at the least. But I'm not sure how they came to the conclusion that the person was anti semitic because they were pro palestine. There are some who hold beliefs about palestine and are anti semitic, its just in this instance how what caused them to come to that conclusion?
There are unfortunately some who are anti semitic just because they have a hatred for Jewish people

etmoiandme · 18/11/2023 11:22

@Parkingt111 Because it's creating an environment that's enabling this behaviour.

Loulou599 · 18/11/2023 11:26

@Oliotya
You caught my eye as you clearly admit to dressing your unwitting child up as a placard for your own personal causes.
Also I must tell you that I don't have an issue with having double standards: it's one of the joys of being french.

That isn't the fault of people supporting Palestine. Anti-semitism needs to be tackled, trying to stop people voicing support of the extremely oppressed won't stop it.

Fairtobefairohhhhhc · 18/11/2023 11:27

Well my nieces school in South East London are arranging a donation collection for Israel next month... most kids are boycotting that day. Don't blame them! This is a secondary school

Loulou599 · 18/11/2023 11:28

Actually it probably will. We can ban marches and arrest people who display antisemitic behaviour on the basis of hate crimes

Certainfailure · 18/11/2023 11:30

@Oliotya not all Muslims are brown. And some of the worse hated filled stuff comes from so called fundamentalist Christians who are white.
On the other hand why how do we get to the point that young men like Jihadi John are being radicalised ? He isn’t the only western individual to end up a murderer in the name of religion. None of this programming at an early age ends well.

Well one way of tackling it would have been to focus on the first part of the woman's tweet.

We can agree to disagree about the last sentence being disingenuous - I happen to think she was 100% right - but if you say you want to do something about antisemitism then call it out and stop the 'but' caveats.

I don't agree with taking away freedom of speech. Banning protest is a very sinister move.
Banning hate speech? Yes. Banning people protesting what is happening in Gaza? No. That's sitting back quietly and allowing some truly evil actions to happen without condemnation.

After 9/11 Muslims faced unprecedented levels of Islamophobia in the UK. Myself included. I still sometimes get islamophobic racist comments when out and about as I am a minority where I currently live
The rise of anti semitism is terrible and should be tackled, those displaying or showing such behaviour should have serious consequences but this does not mean we stay silent about the ongoing genocide in Gaza. We will not stay silent.

Certainfailure · 18/11/2023 11:33

@ChickHenLittle lol. So it depends which side you are on. One persons hate speech is another’s fight for freedom language.

etmoiandme · 18/11/2023 11:34

I agree with this and absolutely do not want the protests banned. @ChickHenLittle

I didn't "but" anything.

I am not antisemitic and would call it out if I came across it if safe to do so, and report it either way. I would with any hate speech or prejudice.

I don't agree that the last sentence should be left unquestioned. It's insulting and prejudiced in itself to imply pro-Palestine equals antisemitism.

I'm not going to stand against one form of prejudice while letting other people be wrongfully labelled.

Loulou599 · 18/11/2023 11:35

But the alternative to a genocide in Gaza has been clearly stated to be a genocide in Israel.
Yet on that you stay silent?
