Why are schools allowing/enabling students to do this?
Is it part of what schools should do, promoting frankly one-sided protest? And what will they decide to march about next? Just imagine being a Jewish student in the middle of this.
I find it sinister.

'Hundreds' of schoolchildren join pro-Palestine protest in Tower Hamlets

Thursday's march forms part of Friday's "National School Strike for Palestine" initiative

This reminds me of my childhood, when we were taken out of school to march and shout slogans for the "beloved" leader and the communist party.

Eeekk

MissyB1 · 17/11/2023 14:36

Hi Suella when did you join mumsnet? Wouldn’t you be better spending your time filling in job applications?

If that was aimed at me then you are desperate honey

I am OG on mumsnet. Everyone knows Truely from covid it seems 😂

I even have two stalkers these days

Giraffe says my head is getting too big. Which isn't true I was worse during covid.

Same here. Ever since then I‘ve never been comfortable with children marching and shouting slogans, no matter what cause.

MissyB1 · 17/11/2023 14:55

@Trulywonderful no it was aimed at the OP, although also others who are frothing about “hate marches”.

As an aside, the OP’s username is sausagenbacon, well I hope it’s kosher because the loudest anti-Palestine/zionist voices, i.e. Baddiel and Riley, are the least practicing Jews yet believe Palestine land belongs to them In a religious sense. Huge hypocrites.
Do you conduct all your discussions in such an ignorant way? You sound delightful.

Those type of ‚Hi Suella/ Boris/ Rishi‘ posts in response to anyone one disagrees with are so terribly original 🙄

Isn't Tower Hamlets almost entirely Muslim? It's not very surprising that they'll be marching for Palestine there.

But it is surprising that any adults let them believe that it will make the slightest difference. Very irresponsible on so many levels.

Children are reacting to seeing other children being starved, murdered and bombed in their thousands. They have a conscience whereas politicians want to appease Netanyahu.
The Hamas attack was abhorrent but Israel as a state has no right to destroy Gaza and its people.

Politicians here have no interest in appeasing Netanyahu. Everyone knows he's finished and that he's a block to peace. They are interrsted in supporting the only Jewish homeland, the only democracy in the region & the only real bulwark against Islamist extremism and the power of Iran. Its got sod all to do with Netanyahu.

Did you raise similar concerns when schools were 'politicising' children in relation to Ukraine?

Were there any strikes for Ukraine, any walk outs or protests?

Ask the kids which river, which sea? They don't have a clue. They are being manipulated by adults

If your children don't know geographical basics then it reflects badly on you - not them

My DC do, they are adults, but when a reporter asked the kids in the crowd they didn't know what he was talking about.

Growlybear83 · 17/11/2023 15:14

I would fully support this. One of my proudest moments in my daughter's time at school was when Cherie Blair visited her primary school when she was in Year 6, during the Iraq conflict. The children and parents hadn't been told about the visit beforehand, and when she found out that Cherie Blair was in the school, she organised an impromptu protest with some of her friends. They made some very rushed posters and chanted in the playground where they knew they could be see .

The only times I'm aware of her bunking off school were later in secondary school to attend protests against the tuition fee increases. I'm proud that I raised a young person who has the courage of her convictions and is politically aware.

Oh yes that lovely democracy - that practices apartheid.

It does not practice apartheid. Do some research! Please tell me which state in the region is more democratic?

Certainfailure · 17/11/2023 15:43

We all know how well it went indoctrinating and radicalising young teens in the UK when ISIS were at their peak.
Vulnerable youngsters were influenced at first by fanaticist religious teachers actually in the UK who were able to preach hatred in clear sight. This made them easy prey for enlistment into ISIS.
We don’t have a clue what people are telling their children. I saw kids who were 6 or 7 wearing free Palestine hoodies in the supermarket. I’d like to think their parents would give a fair explanation of the conflict but sadly ethnic and religious biases often come into it and no doubt they’ll be given a very black and white description.

I don’t need to research because I know what apartheid is, do you? I can post a definition if you need it? And never mind what other states in the region do, two wrongs don’t make a right.

Stomacharmeleon · 17/11/2023 15:59

@MissyB1 but your wrong. And it isn't an apartheid state.

Checkpoints only for Palestinians.

A separate queue for Palestinians at airports.

Targeting land belonging to... Palestinians.

Much of the land that was Palestine gradually being taken over, over time.

Politicians making vile, inflammatory comments about wiping out Palestine.

If it looks like apartheid and smells like apartheid...

Sausagenbacon · 17/11/2023 16:17

Don't you mean Palestinians doing that about Israel?

noblegiraffe · 17/11/2023 16:26

It appears that these protests are organised by Stop the War, who opposed sending military aid to Ukraine when Russia invaded. All those posters comparing it to support for Ukraine should perhaps know that the group organising the march would rather that Russia had been left to get on with it.

Given that it's a seasoned and well-established (and not without controversy) protesting group using kids to make a point, the whole thing really is concerning.

Stomacharmeleon · 17/11/2023 16:28

@ChickHenLittle but it's not apartheid. Lots of those measures are for security.
Remember Israel withdrew from Gaza. I don't see Hamas making massive inroads......for Palestinians.....in that time.

Stomacharmeleon · 17/11/2023 16:29

@noblegiraffe I don't know how they get away with it regarding safeguarding at school. There is specific support for radicalisation too.
