Conflict in the Middle East

Documenting Israeli army racism and torture

Desertrose2023 · 15/11/2023 04:25

this thread is to document the racist, criminal and dehumanizing behaviour by the most “moral army in the world” both during its most recent bombardment of Gaza and across decades of military occupation in the West Bank.

to start, here is a video of Israeli soldiers chanting they will turn Gazans into Kebabs.

Thanks @ChickHenLittle Sounds like Sunak overruled a vote, though I don't understand exactly how parliamentary systems work. Maybe SNP can push back.

I'm not completely sure myself, he certainly did during those PMQs, but I don't know if it can be pushed through with enough support.
One person, even if they are the PM, shouldn't be allowed to veto such motions. He isn't who all of us voted for to represent us, a vote amongst all MPs would go some way to being fairer.

I saw the footage of the Jewish man in the West Bank being attacked by an IDF soldier. It started with a soldier kicking another Jewish mans feet out from under him. I was struck by how frightened the other men in the group looked and despite being horrified and upset by the violence most did not try to protect or defend the man on the ground. It seemed to me that they knew nothing good would come of trying because they'd seen it all before.

I was wondering if their passive reaction was also because orthodox Jews are quite calm and peaceful people.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been deleted yet. Can't be having anyone criticising Israel on MN...

Is that a joke? Because all I see is criticism of Israel.

That's entirely possible but they also looked very afraid. I was surprised at how violent the IDF were to Jewish people who were not posing any threat. I previously thought the violence was reserved for Palestinians.

Brumbies · 15/11/2023 17:05

Has anyone here even been to Israel? Had to rush into a shelter as Hamas rockets land nearby?

There's a lot of hatred from many Israelis towards the ultra-orthodox/Haredim. They are exempt from fighting in IDF and receive a government stipend for 'learning', or not working as many people see it.

No. I've never been to gaza where bombs drop on houses and crush or burn everyone death either. If I had to pick which one I would rather experience I know which one I'd pick though.

This is such a bizarre thing to even write, but having a bomb shelter and 'safe rooms' are such a privilege considering what is going on. Have you thought about those sheltering in a HOSPITAL after their house has been bombed, only for soldiers to storm it and start shooting?

I've been to Israel and the second time the holiday courier did point out that there is a tension about some very orthodox Jews 'not having to work while others do'. This government stipend - how long has it existed? Could it be rescinded by a future Israeli government?

Hamas filmed themselves raping women and posted it online. They murdered an old woman and posted video of it on the women’s own Facebook account.

You are denying atrocities.

You have obviously seen these video yourself haven’t you? Does that make you a monster/creature? Was it another board that they were sent to you on? Tik tok? Watsapp? Regardless someone sent you the link and you have watched them.

More Israeli soldiers torturing Palestinians blindfolding them and forcing them to hold Israeli flags and listen to the same song for hours

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzJ8l8drygg/?igshid=MTN6Y3U1bHRoNnVzdA==

Gosh, imagine the hell of being forced to listen to a children's song for hours. I can't think of anything worse...

Why don't you go and start a thread with videos of Hamas abusing innocent civilians and children? Or maybe you can't as no such videos exist?

Seriously?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I think if "we" (i.e. anyone who thinks Israel has a point, versus Hamas) were to have the sick lack of respect for humanity to post what they have done, you would retch.
Except that you wouldn't even watch it
And even if you did, you'd deny it.

What exactly is going on here?

Your first statement - it's a form of torture. Listening to the same thing over and over against your will, will eventually drive you insane.
Also, it isn't like they're listening to a song at a tea party, they're being forced by their oppressors who don't have a great human rights record.

I assure you, they can't be compared.

being forced to listen to an Israeli children’s song for 8 hours straight while blindfolded and handcuffed is a form of torture. they are being mocked and degraded.

but you’re right - they’re the lucky ones as there are worse things that could have been done to them by the IDF like being shot in a hospital or ambulance or burned alive in their homes

At least one of the aforementioned claims has been backtracked on a lot, and believed to be fake as no reliable sources have been presented with credible evidence. Plus Israeli officials won't confirm it either.

No-one wants to see videos of course, but claims should be confirmed by unbiased, reliable sources.

I think yes in future this could be a thing. Large sects within the ultra orthodox are also anti Zionist, so the general population feel why should they be financially supported when a) they are against the government and B) they aren't adding 'value'. There is also the worry of secular/liberals that Israel will become a religious state (areas where ultra orthodox dominate such as Bnei Brak do not allow men and women to walk on same side of street, shun most forms of modern communication, do not allow divorce or secular studies taught in schools). It is estimated that Haredim will make up 25% of the population by 2050.

Ultra orthodox will be 1 in 4 by 2050

The Power of Israel’s Ultra-Orthodox Has Peaked

Secular Israelis fear the growing Haredi population will give religious parties more power. Economics and labor market trends suggest their power is fading.

This. I have no doubt Hamas killed people and committed crimes against civilians on 7th October, but until there has been an independent and international investigation (eg by the ICC) I will not blindly accept as fact the totality of allegations made by Israel, even against Hamas. See the 40 beheaded babies that never were as a classic example.

the IDF has a consistent history of lying and manipulating circumstances to suit their agenda. Here’s a video of them trying to convince people a calendar in Arabic is a Hamas operational document. If it wasn’t so desperate, and the situation wasn’t so tragic, it’d be laughable.
