Documenting Israeli army racism and torture

Desertrose2023 · 15/11/2023 04:25

this thread is to document the racist, criminal and dehumanizing behaviour by the most “moral army in the world” both during its most recent bombardment of Gaza and across decades of military occupation in the West Bank.

to start, here is a video of Israeli soldiers chanting they will turn Gazans into Kebabs.

Hamas warned Israel more than a year ago about the attack but Israel dismissed this as they thought it Hamas wouldn't be able to pull it off.

The BBC have released an article where they have interviewed some of the Palestinians released from Israeli prison

Many of them have spoken about the torture and cruel treatment they recieved with almost all saying it got considerably worse after the 7th of October attacks

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-67581915

Going through something like that must have been traumatising. How awful for them and wrong

I read another article saying Hamas started an hour before the truce ended

Guardian clip released detainee Ahed Tamimi speaking about prison conditions

Prominent activist Ahed Tamimi is one of 30 Palestinians released in the sixth swap between Israel and Hamas. The 22-year-old, who has become a symbol of resistance against Israel’s occupation, was seen embracing her mother after being released. Tamimi told reporters: ‘Our joy is diminished because there are many martyrs in Gaza.’ She went on to describe the conditions faced by Palestinians held inside the Israeli prison

"There is no water, no food, no clothes, no nothing"

"They sleep on the floor"

"Recently they arrested 10 women from Gaza, leaving their children homeless"

"They tortured all the prisoners"

"Their situation is very bad"

Ms Tamimi, 22, was arrested earlier this month over an Instagram post, which her family say she did not write.

Arresting people over an Instagram post. Such "democracy".

Israeli soldiers wore T-shirts with a pregnant woman in cross-hairs and the slogan "1 Shot 2 Kills," adding to a growing furor in the country over allegations of misconduct by troops during the Gaza war.

"The smaller they are, the harder it is," says another shirt showing a child in a rifle sight. Soldiers wore the shirts to mark the end of basic training and other military courses and they were first reported by the Haaretz daily.

The military condemned the soldiers involved, but it was not immediately clear how many wore the shirts. They were not manufactured or sanctioned by the military and appear not to have been widely distributed.

The shirts "are not in accordance with IDF values and are simply tasteless," the military said in a statement. "This type of humor is unbecoming and should be condemned." The army said it would not tolerate such behavior and would take disciplinary action against the soldiers involved.

Haaretz showed pictures of five shirts and said they were made at the unit level - indicating that they were made for small numbers of troops, perhaps several dozen, at a time. It said they were worn by an unknown number of enlisted men in different units. The Tel Aviv factory that made many of the shirts, Adiv, refused to comment.

Some of the shirts had blatant sexual messages. One battalion had a shirt made of a soldier standing next to a young woman with bruises, with the slogan, "Bet you got raped!" according to Haaretz.

Others featured the phrase "Confirming the kill," a reference to the shooting an enemy in the head from close range to ensure he is dead, a practice that the IDF denies.

Israel's military has come under increasing scrutiny after unidentified soldiers alleged that some troops opened fire hastily and killed Palestinian civilians during the Gaza war several months ago, including children, possibly because they believed they would not be held accountable under relaxed open-fire regulations. The military has ordered a criminal inquiry into soldiers accounts published in a military institute's newsletter.

She would be arrested in the UK for a post like that as well, or at least I would hope so.

treeees · 01/12/2023 10:02

@ProvincialLady1 I've not seen the post you refer to, and lots of people online say the account was fake.

Why are racist, genocidal posts Israeli officials put out against Palestinians allowed to go unpunished?

The post was horrific, I won't quote it but I can assure you it would be illegal to say those things in any democracy, which is why I responded. Lots of people online say all sorts of things, who knows.
I don't think any racist or genocidal rhetoric should go unpunished, obviously. Which is why I thought your post was quite surprising.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 01/12/2023 10:10

Just a short comparison

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 10:12

@ProvincialLady1 the difference is that in this country the accused is given a fair trial and a chance to defend themselves
The Palestinians are not
One instagram post certainly is not credible evidence to arrest someone in the night and lock them up without any further investigation or due process

treeees · 01/12/2023 10:16

@Parkingt111 yes, and the Israeli govt ministers put out daily hate and genocidal statements without being so much as being asked to delete them.

Obviously neither side putting them out is ok but why the double standards?

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 10:16

@ProvincialLady1 and yes the double standards and hypocrisy is quite stark
There had been hundreds of posts and tiktoks made also by Israelis calling for the full genocide of the Gazans
These are not just a post but recordings of themselves saying this
I have yet to see a single one arrested for it

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 10:19

A far cry from being arrested. Israels own politicians openly spread such rhetoric not only on social media but on TV too without consequence

Yes, although I imagine there would be some emergency measures if we were at war.

Fairtobefairohhhhhc · 01/12/2023 10:24

Ms Tamimi has been arrested many times since childhood. Its not unusual for her unfortuantly. She is very strong.

Edited

I don't agree with the double standards at all, I think that's very dangerous.

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 10:27

@ProvincialLady1 if reasonable measures were being taken on both sides I would have agreed.
In this instance neither was it a reasonable measure and nor would she have been allowed a trial or a chance to defend

And yes once again as you say yourself the double standards are shocking

Human Rights Watch confirm babies left in incubators due to IDF siege, now dead.

On November 9, Israeli airstrikes hit Al-Nasr Medical Center in Gaza City, cutting off the neonatal intensive care unit’s oxygen supply. The attack forced to evacuate the next day, leaving babies that could not be transported alone in intensive care, according to Doctors Without Borders. On November 28 during the ceasefire, doctors were able to return and found five babies dead.

Commissioned by the family to write Yoni’s biography, Max Hastings portrayed him as a moody, stubborn loner, much like his father, only without his father’s brains – ‘a troubled young man of moderate intelligence, striving to come to terms with intellectual concepts beyond his grasp’. Far from being the peerless commander, Yoni had been ‘actively disliked by more than a few of his men’. Furious at Hastings, the Netanyahus had the book published in a bowdlerised form. Hastings, who wrote about his encounter with the family in his memoirs (‘one of the sorriest episodes of my career’), took a particularly strong dislike to Bibi, who boasted: ‘In the next war, if we do it right, we’ll have a chance to get all the Arabs out ... We can clear the West Bank, sort out Jerusalem.’ Bibi’s racism, Hastings recalled, wasn’t limited to Arabs. ‘He joked about the Golani Brigade, the infantry force in which so many men were North African or Yemeni Jews. “They’re OK as long as they are led by white officers,” he grinned.’

This is Netanyahu's wife's aide and this is what she wrote - there is something very sick in that she feels emboldened to write such toxic filth. God only knows what is being said in private. I didn't believe it when I first read it as it is indeed shockingly unbelievable.

@twilightmoon3 worst of the worst!

treeees · 01/12/2023 13:07

@twilightmoon3 I don't understand how these people can think such twisted thoughts. Nobody believes the attacks were ok. But how you get to this kind of rhetoric? Honestly, it is serial killer vibes. Hannibal Lecter or something like that! What a twisted weird mind. Sad when you think so many of the top Israeli officials actually think like this.
