Shocked by the racist signs at marches

Maybe I’m just severely naive but I’m honestly just shocked at the levels of racism of some of the signs at these marches. It’s just caught me really, really off guard.

do not put words in my mouth or throw assumptions. I did not say “racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism” at the marches didn’t bother me. nor that others aren’t allowed to discuss it. It’s been discussed - extensively- on several threads.

but yes forgive me if I think comparatively the grotesque reality of what Israel is doing in Gaza and people being intentionally bombed and starved on a daily basis, to such a degree that they’re having to be buried en masse, should warrant more attention than offensive placards. so we can agree to disagree.

Again, you don’t have to be here talking about placards if it’s upsetting you. Looking at the first page of this CIME topic, there are 3 threads specifically about placards, one is of which is full. The other 47 threads are on the subjects you’d prefer to talk about, so I’d say they have warranted more attention.
I don’t understand why you insist your chosen subjects are talked about here when there are clearly so many people keen to talk about them on all those other threads and why you object to people on this thread discussing its actual subject.

@MNHQ

Why was my post deleted?

Exactly. Plenty of threads talking about what is happening in Gaza, as there should be, but God forbid we should have a couple of threads talking about anti-semitism .

People can always ignore this, there's no compulsion to read it.

IClaudine · 14/11/2023 20:20

@Desertrose2023 there is a separate thread about the issue of mass graves and dogs. That terrible situation is not being ignored.

Yes. It's causing a huge amount of anxiety but it seems we're not allowed to talk about it.

You’re allowed to talk about it. Please continue.

while we’re on the topic of racism induced anxiety, this is what gives me anxiety:

Yes. It's causing a huge amount of anxiety but it seems we're not allowed to talk about it.

It's absolutely extraordinary how the very few threads about anti - semitism are hijacked by users just to echo everything they have said on the hundreds of other threads created focusing on what they see as genocide by Israel, etc, ad infinitum. Complete refusal to allow those anxious about the anti-semitism to discuss it by derailing it to focus on BAD Israel.

Here is the thread starter to continue the placards at marches thread. Hope this won't be derailed too.

Sorry but we are not on the topic of racism induced society.

The topic of this thread is "Shocked by the racist signs at marches". Looks quite clear to me. The Pro Palestinian marches to be exact.

Edited

I just see it as they can't think of anything new to say

Have zero critical thinking skills and no ability to talk about more than one subject

That or they are a bunch of raving Jew haters and trying to derail an thread that might mean users have any empathy for Jewish people. I mean it goes against the narrative a lot of posters are vomiting up

Isn't Hamas a creation of Israel though? In as much as if Israel didn't treat Palestinians as they do, the conditions for Hamas to flourish wouldn't be there (yes I know Hamas gets funding from outside, but the electoral support is Gazan.

And by exactly the same token, Hamas promotes the conditions for the Netanyahus and their ilk to flourish in Israel.

I saw a very interesting article somewhere a while back setting out how much the hawkish Israelis and Hamas need each other. Netanyahu has even explicitly said so apparently (to the extent that hamas divides Gaza from the West Bank politically, at least). They are locked together in a death spiral.

Certainly bombing the shit oit of Gaza to "destroy" Hamas seems pointless to me. Hamas looks to me like a state of mind, that is fertilised with every falling bomb -both in Gaza, and in Hamas's sponsor states.

Meanwhile of course, the actions of Hamas encourage nothing but unimaginable pain for Israelis and Gazans alike.

What a fucking mess.

I think this is sadly true. There is a weird symbiotic relationship in which the hawkish right wing Netanyahu supporters and Hamas only have a reason for existing if the other one also exists. And, in my view, both rely heavily on support from people whose religious beliefs cloud any sense of empathy, decency or common sense.

Its completely unrealistic I know but I’d love to see a complete changing of the guard. As a left wing Jew I’d love to see a young left wing female prime minister. The Netanyahu generation needs to step aside.

But in reality the events of 7 October onwards have entrenched Netanyahu and his views. Now many Israelis are enemies more likely to support the hardliner who priorities ‘security’ and punishing Hamas.

I don't know sometimes I see multiple users attack a poster. Not debate or have a conversation but really try to upset someone. It looks like school yard bullying to me. Seem to do it more if they find out or suspect the users is Jewish so you could be right about the other word. Personally I just call them fuckwits.

@caringcarer an OP on a different thread suggested googling the definitions of some of the images that were antisemitic - which I actually did. Makes for interesting reading on why some images are deemed as antisemitic and rightly so those people who feel that it is necessary for them to make up placards like this should be justifiably questioned by the authorities.

However, your comment re "headbands with Hamas on". The Arabic writing on those headbands is literally translated as the declaration of faith in one God. The covered faces in that specific image are sinister, as is a swastika being waved about but the wording on the bands is not.

No. Just stop.

The wording itself doesn't have to be offensive for the headbands to be offensive. I refuse to believe that anyone on this particular board is stupid enough to not understand what those green headbands mean. We also know what it means when it's a black flag with the same text in white. It's not the text that's the problem, it's the people who have abused it. Pretending they speak for all Muslims 🤯

I know you're only repeating what you saw another poster say the other day but this is not ok. Don't try to downplay the green headbands. They're offensive and should not be allowed. Only actual terrorist-sympathisers would wear them or be ok with others wearing them. If you're ok with the green headbands you don't belong anywhere near a "peace march".

Stomacharmeleon · 14/11/2023 21:14

@Jupitersstorm I seem to attract that on every thread I am on.

Trulywonderful · 14/11/2023 21:25

Allahu Akbar is not offensive or threatening. However context is everything. A person at work or greeting you saying it is fine. A person in a balaclava or with a knife not so fine.

Similar to the headbands worn by protesters context is everything. If worn with a face covering scarf or balaclava it is to intemperate. Plus as someone said before to cross play Hamas. So it doesn't matter if the writing was a pray or a delightful poem in Arabic.

noblegiraffe · 14/11/2023 21:32

I'll post these pictures again if anyone wants to defend the innocent wearing of headbands on the march. The wording might be different but the intention is clear.

I wonder if the instinct to come onto threads and say 'stop talking about antisemitism, we should be talking about Gaza' is the same sentiment that leads people to rip down posters showing the kidnapped Israeli children.

If you've mentally split the world into goodies and baddies it can be uncomfortable to be reminded that things aren't actually that black and white.

Trulywonderful · 14/11/2023 21:36

I can do one better Giraffe

Police are seeking the public’s help to identify 11 men suspected of displaying signs or wearing clothing in support of terrorist groups at pro-Palestine marches in London.

I've literally seen people all over the internet say "we should all be talking about Gaza. Nothing else matters". There was an advert for a jeweller that happened to also be selling a star of a David. Holy moly, the comments on there! It really is all some people want to talk about.

I think you are right with that assessment

Obviously I still think some of these people are just good old fashioned Jew hates that don't what people to feel any empathy for Jewish people. It is what Hitler did properganda to make people lose empathy for Jews. Then he could do what he liked to them without much kick back from the general public.

Trulywonderful · 14/11/2023 21:44

Officers also want to speak to two men captured in social media footage over allegations they engaged in pro-Hamas chanting in Trafalgar Square on November 4.

Inviting support for the banned organisation is an offence under the Terrorism Act.

The first is described as an Asian man who looks aged 40-50 and has a grey beard. He was wearing a dark hoodie with a distinctive white square on the left breast.

The second is described as looking age 20-30, wearing a black hoodie, grey tracksuit bottoms and a green neck covering.

So what other threads do you go on to tell people their problems aren't as band as what's hoping on in Gaza?

Breastfeeding threads

They tell people to stop complaining about their cracked nipples and only talk about Gaza

It is horrific over on the Breastfeeding boards the poor new mothers can't get any help because of these types

😉
