There's a lot of misinformation/propaganda spreading around and this thread is to raise awareness of the ones circulating. Here's one for example:

Please share any you come across.

No, it's PR

No, it’s propaganda

No, it's PR

No, it’s propaganda

Because a leftwing publication says so?

Sure.

I had a sibling who worked in the hasbara department. It was PR.

feralunderclass · 23/11/2023 17:12

It's how to utilise propaganda as a form of PR. They say never go to marriage counselling with a narcissist as they will direct the narrative and gaslight you into feeling that their problems/flaws are your fault. This sums the Israeli government up. Even when their lies are exposed on international TV they stonewall or deflect by asking completely unrelated questions.

Reallifelurker · 23/11/2023 17:14

Well this looks at it from a slightly different angle

Can’t say I read it thinking “ooh this sounds like a force for good” though

Getting hasbara out of its rut - opinion

There is the need to reset the message and the Zionist narrative.

It's how to utilise propaganda as a form of PR

The two terms are similar in their meaning tbf. But whereas PR seeks to promote a good public image propaganda promotes a biased POV (usually political in nature). Use of propaganda is very common in conflicts* *

Thanks for this, it's a very interesting read.

I've been watching the news and various interviews and I always noticed how the same sort of rhetoric would be evident in them. Especially the lines "do you condemn Hamas?" Or "do you believe Israel has a right to defend itself".

No problem at all. I first noticed it in 2014 during operation protective edge. Almost everyone interviewed for the Israeli side repeated the same line "Israel has the right to defend itself" and other similar lines in a very Stepford Wives manner.

The manual blew up online after some folks engaged in Israeli "PR" started newly registrating and repeatedly posting on some Gaming forums, and there was a back and forth between the groups with the Gamers winning by quoting from the manual.

Part of the reason the narrative control is failing is because the younger folk don't want to be "PR"ed and it'sa very gaslighting type of propaganda.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 23/11/2023 18:12

@BelleHathor yes exactly. It's sounds like they're reading from the same book and it clearly is. I saw a video of the book it used on social media.

Humdingerydoo · 23/11/2023 18:14

Honestly, the way you're all going on as though you've uncovered some deep, dark conspiracy. Why is it a surprise to learn that a country is using PR? What do you think a spokesperson is?

XRAYTHIS · 23/11/2023 18:52

ScrollingLeaves · 23/11/2023 11:49

Yes.
He knows how vicious Hamas is to Palestinians too.

Is that in question?

Israel bombing, burning, maiming and starving Palestinian children and their parents in their thousands, destroying their houses, and yet again pushing them out of their homes, will produce future dissociated, brutalised Hamas types with nothing to lose.

I didn't ask a question. I just left some information from a child of Palestine. His words.

Most of this thread is by people leaving links. I thought that someone from the area might offer a perspective rather than the usual stuff posted. I guess it wasn't welcome then 😕

Reallifelurker · 23/11/2023 19:06

This article sums up my misgivings about Israel’s Hasbara very well.

“Look closer at all his years in politics and that’s basically what he* has had to sell. Hasbara. A deep belief that Israel doesn’t have to improve itself; it is perfect as it is. All it needs is to explain itself better.

He sold that to Israelis, to many Diaspora Jews and to a whole cohort of wanna-Bibis, who believe it is their duty to wage hasbara war on Israel’s behalf rather than fight to make Israel a better place. And guess what? The world didn’t buy it, and then parts of the world got so tired of it that when Israel had an unassailable moral case, they still refused to believe their own eyes”

*in the run up to the second world war should say

The article above shows the really disgusting anti-semitic stance of the DM in the 1930s.

Anyone parroting and reposting any DM stories in relation to the Israel / Palestine war should be aware of this and think twice before posting links.

Fairtobefairohhhhhc · 24/11/2023 10:25

That daily mail article is a bit of a joke. I've seen those images and it's very obvious they where AI generated. It does not mean they don't show the truth as to what is happening.

In the posts I have seen with these images they have never been used or called real images. It is to depict what is happening in a way without real blood and gore.

I just seen this which is unrelated but I was actually shocked that kids are used in Israel for this. It was removed due to back lash. They say gaza kids are indoctrinated.... so what is this then but in Israel....? https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cz9hrQeNAum/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

I think there is misinformation from many sources and from Hamas, or Israel or others as well.

The Daily Mail owner did support the Nazi during WW1 and WW2. So are yiu saying that they are anti Jewish now as they were then? Your point is?

The thing with newspapers, they have a bias, we all know that. They are also accountable and can be sued, quite rightly. People pour scorn on a particular newspaper and often forget all newspapers, news outlets have their own bias. Individual Tic Toc, X and Instagram accounts spread much misinformation and hatred and are often shared enmass thousands of times with no accountability. They also have bias.

However, some sites afterwards will verify the major news outlets and newspapers for accuracy not so with Tic Toc, X et al.

Fairtobefairohhhhhc · 24/11/2023 11:29

@XRAYTHIS I understand what you are saying. But regarding tik token and Instagram etc. They are real live videos from those inside the disaster zone. They aren't 'verified' but do they need to be? What about the live videos. When newspapers verify things, what they mean is, we have taken what we want from the info and show you what is good for our promotion. Verifying doesn't mean anything to a newspaper unless it fits their agenda.

eester · 24/11/2023 11:34

@XRAYTHIS

Despite the fact that many years have passed, I will always have a problem with anyone promoting a publication with such a nasty historical stance, no matter how long ago it is.

There have also been recent accusations of the DM being anti-semitic

Indeed, Tic toc is a mix of live and masses of images. Some real and some not.

Another poster suggesting that because the owner of The Daily Mail in the 1930's was a Hitler supporter means that now no links should be shared is a bit odd. The story was about AI pictures being used by Hamas so not following a Hitler type focus at all. Some of the Royal family had sympathy for Germany during the World Wars but it would be also odd if someone used a similar 'reach' about them now. That was my point really.

I don't like the paper but that doesn't mean it's all made up. I don't like X or Tic Tok but again not all made up.
