There's a lot of misinformation/propaganda spreading around and this thread is to raise awareness of the ones circulating. Here's one for example:

You don't appear to have noticed they used the equivalent of £ when they should have used p when calculating the value of the shares.

No, it's 100% fake news as explained by Full Fact.

https://fullfact.org/online/fake-headline-Israeli-shares/

Continuing to push fake news as true in this instance IS a clear example of anti-semitic behaviour. Having seen a few of your posts now I'm back for a bit I can only conclude your goal is very clear.....🤦‍♂️

Headline about Israelis selling shares ahead of 7 October attack is fake - Full Fact

Contrary to a screenshot circulating on social media, an Israeli newspaper did not publish a headline claiming Israelis made millions shorting shares ahead of the 7 October attacks.

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 09:40

Good grief. This is now wilful ignorance.

DownNative · 10/01/2024 09:40

Thereissomelight · 10/01/2024 09:28

The shares were sold all right.
It’s a question of who sold them.

Demonstrates you've blatantly NOT read the Full Fact article. Important excerpts below:

"The screenshot of an article purportedly by Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper, which has also been circulating on Instagram, carries the headline “Israelis Made Millions Betting Against Israeli Shares Before October 7 Massacre!”, and is credited to reporter Ido Baum on 4 December.

However, the text of the headline has been digitally altered.

The real headline of the article, which was published by Haaretz and authored by Ido Baum on 4 December questioned: “Did Hamas Make Millions Betting Against Israeli Shares Before October 7 Massacre?”

There is no record of the faked headline on the Haaretz website. An archived version of the real article shows it hasn’t been titled anything else since publication on 4 December."

So, it's fake news it was "Israelis Made Millions Betting Against Israeli Shares Before October 7 Massacre!”.

Anything else is clearly anti-semitic behaviour and pushing a very classic trope too. 🤔

Ok, don’t read my link.

Thereissomelight · 10/01/2024 09:47

Or the findings by NYU and Colombia Universities.
The short selling in Tel Aviv has been downplayed by Israel but hopefully the linked but far less deniable short selling in the US will continue to be investigated.
Anyone interested can look up the findings of the NYU and Colombia researchers.

Absolutely anything to distract from the fake news headline blaming Israelis when the REAL headline was questioning Hamas.

Intent is clear as day.....🤷‍♂️

Thereissomelight · 10/01/2024 09:43

I did. It refers to a 'meticulous' report which has since been discredited due to a howling maths error.

Yes, and the researcher in question has been discredited in the past on short selling too.

I repeat, any attempt to try to distract from fake news regarding Israelis making millions from short selling ahead of 7th October 2023 is blatant anti-semitism.

Especially when it seeks to distract attention away from Hamas. Funny that(!)

Josh Mitts Tries to Prove Short Sellers Profited From War in the Middle East — But He Made a Big Mistake

“Trading on Terror” research paper by Columbia law professor exaggerated profits 100-fold.

Thereissomelight · 10/01/2024 10:29

Ok. Tel Aviv is very keen to discredit the short selling story
and Josh Mitts (despite the error relating to trading currency used in Israel) is equally keen to stand by his findings that the numbers of the US based Bank Leumi shares short sold remain unusually high.

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 10:34

So some people cashed in on their advanced knowledge of the attack, is your claim. Hamas are the ones who knew the attack was going to happen, right? So you think they deliberately profited from it?

I don’t know who owned the shares.
Presumably Bank Leumi knows but they haven’t said.

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 10:37

But if we are speculating, Hamas are the ones who knew the attack was coming so would be suspects no. 1, right?

Thereissomelight · 10/01/2024 10:39

Who knows who knew what.
Numerous reports of Israel having been warned that the attack was imminent but they failed to stop it.

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 10:42

So you're unwilling to admit that Hamas would be suspects no. 1 on people who knew in advance of the attack and would seek to profit from it?

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 10:42

You know they're terrorists, right?

Numerous reports of Israel having been warned that the attack was imminent but they failed to stop it.

That's a misrepresentation. Months ago, I provided a lot of detail around the reality of security intelligence, but I'm not surprised to see misrepresentations still occur.

In a nutshell, intelligence agencies receive so many reports daily that its NOT a case of looking for a needle in a haystack.

It's actually a case of looking for the needle on a stack of needles that can cause immediate harm. In amongst all that will be false reports.

It's a constant process of evaluation of risk levels. Intelligence is NOT an exact science and laypersons routinely misunderstand it as well as attribute nefarious intentions since they overestimate intelligence services' capabilities.

Thereissomelight · 10/01/2024 10:51

Well who knows.

I hope that investigations will continue so that we DO know in time.

Important to look into these things I think.

Wars and ethnic cleansing cost money. Although I’m pleased to see that the US seems to be getting a little tougher on Israel’s leaked plans to force the homeless Gazans to leave Gaza.

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 11:05

Well who knows.

Easy question for you here:

Who definitely 100% knew in advance of the terrorist attack that it was going to happen?

Can you answer that one?

You begin with "who knows?" and end on the usual implication towards Israel.

As @noblegiraffe says Hamas would reasonably be the number one suspect. Yet you're unwilling to concede so.

Once again, absolutely anything to distract from the fake news implicating Israelis in order to poison the well with speculative hints intended to deflect attention away from Hamas.

Every time. 🤷‍♂️

You're not the Israel did 9/11 poster are you?

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 11:15

No, that's a different conspiracy theorist.

Dibilnik · 10/01/2024 12:00

Blimey! This thread has taken an astonishing turn 🤯

@Thereissomelight can you spell out what you're implying must have happened? Something like Israel did some dirty deal to make more money by, ermmm, arranging a nice little pogrom?

It seems there's no end to the sick violations people are happy to visit upon Israel, but this is one twist of the knife too far.
