There's a lot of misinformation/propaganda spreading around and this thread is to raise awareness of the ones circulating. Here's one for example:

Please share any you come across.

I reported it because I don't believe that distressing images should be posted without any warning on the open site.

I think there's a sensitive image option but I've never used it so I don't know how it works.

I didn't want the picture to be there. It's a link:

God forbid anyone has to see a distressing image. Imagine if you had to live it. Shame on anyone still supporting these monsters.

MN isn't a forum for posting distressing images. They get to decide and they decided no, which is an entirely reasonable stance.

Ohlalalalala · 18/11/2023 14:46

I posted it for all those who have been inundating this thread with their questioning of the Palestinian casualties and talking about actors and fake injuries. How could anyone do that!

Seriously, are you so intent on absolving the genociders' crimes that you question the suffering of innocent Palestinians? The killing of babies and children by the thousands?

Ok, here it is, see for yourselves:

Trigger alert; extremely distressing images from the latest strike of IDF on a school full of babies, children and refugees.

Are those actors? Is this a horror movie set?

Please justify this now.

Lobster7 · 18/11/2023 14:47

Fine with Israel carrying out these atrocities. Just don't want to have to look at them.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2023 14:48

I've never said I'm fine with Israel carrying out atrocities, in fact I have said the opposite. You crack on.

FourCandlesNotForkHandles · 18/11/2023 14:49

Ohlalalalala · 18/11/2023 14:34

Why was my post deleted @MNHQ ? Are we allowed to post from X and Instagram but not from AlJazeera Arabic?

Edit: Just read the explanation given for deleting my post (distressing image). Could you please return my post without the image?

Edited

We ve seen those appalling images on Al Jazeera English in the video footage.
They haven’t taken that down MNHQ
Plus the person with the camera passing women and tiny children dead side by side, men checking to see if little children and babies are still alive.
Entire families massacred.

A MN has complained about the truth being posted.
They obviously would rather hide from reality.

What an unpleasant thing to say given the poster is in good faith. The image/video was linked to a major news channel which I for one had seen on the television this morning too.

By the way if anyone comes in here who does not know yet, a school where hundreds of Palestinians were sheltering, was bombed by Israel and this lead to carnage, as one might expect.

The image/video was linked to news about that particular bombing raid.

You might be desperate to post images of injured children on MN, but I think it is entirely reasonable to think that on a parenting website of all places, that might not be appropriate.

Lobster7 · 18/11/2023 14:55

You know what else isn't appropriate? Blowing up children.

I get that you just want trigger warnings and no gratuitous gore which is fair enough.

imo though, ohlalalala was simply posting a very important and freely available news item, in which the image was included.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 18/11/2023 14:56

I saw the post but I didn't see images posted?

There are serious questions over Israel’s credibility. I don’t think anyone is disputing that Israeli (or pro-Israeli) claims are not to be taken at face value.

However, that does not make everything that Israel says untrue and it certainly doesn’t mean that everything Hamas says is true.

Both sides’ claims need serious scrutiny. It’s why the work of serious journalists and fact checkers is so important.

It’s frustrating on a thread about disinformation to keep seeing posts from
instagram and X cited totally uncritically as “fact” or “proof” rather than people taking a look to see whether there are credible news agencies reporting similar.

Thank you or saying this, and all your links from more reputable sources.

Do you understand that there is a difference between not wanting to see images of blown up children, and supporting blowing up children?

Because you don't seem to.

If you are talking about me then I have done no such thing. I have posted links to a number of fact checks debunking pro-Israeli social media posts about crisis actors and fake Palestinian casualties that have been proven to be untrue. Arguing that people should check their sources and question pro-Palestinian posts as well as pro-Israeli posts does not amount to justifying Israeli actions or “absolving genociders” ffs.

Lobster7 · 18/11/2023 15:05

Isn't it great that we can decide whether to look or not? The people of Gaza don't have that luxury.

This source about the ‘hospital bombing’ question is from Forensic ArchitectureLondon University), Earshot, and a Ramallah based NGO Al Haq.

I can’t remember if anyone has linked to this source already.

It does not say Israel is responsible for the bomb. It does say Israel’s account does not tally with their finding. It does not say Hamas is innocent.

Human rights investigators raise new questions on Gaza hospital explosion”

Now that Israeli is freely bombing hospitals anyway, it does not seem to matter so much outside the question the lack of credibility on which ever side.

Human rights investigators raise new questions on Gaza hospital explosion

Along with the very real and violent war on the ground - there is also a fierce information war. Like Tuesday's explosion at the Gaza hospital which Hamas says killed hundreds of people. Israel says it was a misfired Islamic Jihad rocket, which they de...

@mixgoal Believe me, no one delights in seeing these photos. The people of Gaza need us to look. If we didn't we wouldn't know the horrors Israel is subjecting them to.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2023 15:44

Do you spend your time deliberately looking at distressing images from all conflicts to bear witness?

I think trying to emotionally blackmail people into looking at distressing images if you can't make them look at them by surprise is pretty low.

Yes we are lucky not to live in Gaza. We are lucky to have the choice not to look at distressing images rather than being forced to live them.

You might think it's important to see them. You have the choice to do that. Others have the choice not to. You do you.

watcherintherye · 18/11/2023 16:04

You might be desperate to post images of injured children on MN, but I think it is entirely reasonable to think that on a parenting website of all places, that might not be appropriate.

Sometimes people need to be confronted by the reality of what’s actually happening in the world. I think people posting on the threads on this board will know well enough that the things being discussed here are indeed horrific, and are unlikely to be here if they are not prepared for that. It’s a bit disingenuous to suggest that parents in search of sleep training tips might suddenly blunder into a montage of bloody images.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2023 16:09

That's not your decision to make on here.
