There's a lot of misinformation/propaganda spreading around and this thread is to raise awareness of the ones circulating. Here's one for example:

Please share any you come across.

The BBC have issued an apology for their claim that the IDF was targeting medics https://x.com/bbcnewspr/status/1724739809724227692?s=61&t=U9XrcF693-JpMxeIueYG7g

I think the explanation was that some of the bodies turned out to be Hamas not Israeli.

Yes plus the number of hostages went up. Some reported dead turned out to be kidnapped. A lot of confusion and trauma from witnesses in the beginning

Do you feel better now having been rude to an anonymous stranger on the internet?

So glad you think you have come up with some really clever conspiracy all on your own, despite you clearly just writing something you saw on here a couple of days ago. What politicians in the UK do you think are the ones who will profit in all this?

Rudeness is met with more rudeness. In my world, we call that “chat shit, get banged”, but I prefer to use words as my metaphorical fists.

I actually didn’t know it was mentioned on here a few days ago, but glad to know it is already being discussed.

As for “what politicians”, no, I don’t know who in particular as it’s just a theory, as I have maintained since the first post on the matter.

@Humdingerydoo I will neither “piss off” nor continue to word opinions as opinions or facts as facts, but feel free to continue to conflate the two on as many threads and newspaper articles as you like.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 15/11/2023 12:06

I'm confused @whatswrongwiththeworldddd once again by your thread. Its meant to be about misinformation? @noblegiraffe gave an example from the BBC which was quite blatant but you ignored that and shared an instagram link.

@noblegiraffe thanks for sharing that and their apology, but they really shouldn' be making 'mistakes' as obvious and damaging as that.

Humdingerydoo · 15/11/2023 12:07

I see my comment was deleted, presumably because I told the poster to go away but in different terms.

I just want to be clear - the poster is spreading conspiracy theories and pretending it's just their own personal musings. It's not. It's a well-known conspiracy theory without any basis in fact. It therefore doesn't have any place here in a thread about misinformation being spread.

This is a thread about misinformation.
Gaza has a wealth of gas in the marine borders does it? a 'wealth of'? how much?
because it means I won’t get my money Money form what? the gas? Who do you mean and who has financial interest in this 'wealth of gas'. This was discussed by a poster here yesterday who had good knowledge of this so I am interested in how you actually come to the conclusion you have and why you'd post it on this particular thread.

How did I ignore it? I did reply to @noblegiraffe saying I read that there were shootings etc. Did you ignore that part or did you not read the thread properly? I shared the link after I answered.

You did not address the misinformation at all, you ignored it and moved on to something else. Because you don't want to even acknowledge there is negative misinformation about Israel.

DrinkingMyWaterMindingMyBiz · 15/11/2023 12:31

@Iwantcakeeveryday I don’t know exactly how much gas is there. As I have already said numerous times, I posted an opinion, a passing thought. Not a fact. Granted this thread probably isn’t the prime place for opinions but I was responding to another poster who asked why I thought Starmer would choose to sack MPs for voting a ceasefire.

If you really can’t tell the difference between an opinion and a fact, a thread on misinformation probably isn’t for you.

Given the fact that I've read different from what Reuters has reported I was not inclined to say that what they have reported is in fact correct.

A passing thought! Ok. So you think Strarmer is motivated by his financial interest in Gaza gas that you don't know for sure exits or how much exists or if its worthwhile for anyone to even care about. What a strange thing to post on this particular thread. I can tell the difference between opinion and fact, I am simply questioning how you came to have that opinion because usually most intelligent people base an opinion on something, yours seems to be plucked from the air.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 15/11/2023 13:10

"Geologists and resources economists have confirmed that the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) lies above sizeable reservoirs of oil and natural gas wealth, in Area C of the West Bank and the Mediterranean coast off the Gaza Strip, according to a recent UNCTAD study.
New discoveries of natural gas in the Levant Basin are in the range of 122 trillion cubic foot while recoverable oil is estimated at 1.7 billion barrels, according to the study, entitled “The Economic Cost of Occupation for the Palestinian People: The Unrealized Oil and Natural Gas Potential.”
This offers an opportunity to distribute and share about US$524 billion among the different parties in the region and promote peace and cooperation among old belligerents, the study notes.
These funds could finance socioeconomic development in the oPt as part of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
However, so far the Palestinian people have been prohibited from exploiting the oil and gas reserves in their own land and water to meet their energy needs and generate fiscal and export revenues.
This increases both the opportunity costs and the total costs borne by the Palestinian people as a result of occupation, the study states."

@Iwantcakeeveryday you’re not interested in how I came to such a conclusion, because if you were, you’d have seen that I have already posted it.

I know enough information about it to formulate my own opinion, but not on a scale to share with others on this thread - I don’t want to be the one to spread misinformation. Hence I posted an opinion and not a fact. At the moment, the sources I have learnt said information from have been from links posted on social media that I’m aware won’t be without bias. I haven’t had the time to fact check these in depth yet so have formulated an opinion on it.

This is a thread about misinformation. I’m not about to start posting the sources that led to my formulation of this opinion when I don’t have 100% certainty on it myself.

But by all means, go off pretending opinions = facts if you think that will strengthen your argument.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 15/11/2023 14:02

Well clearly the IDF are not at the hospital to provide medical assistance and aid if they're damaging medical equipment.

And not to mention what came out of Israeli doctors mouths in the article below.

It really doesn't seem like the thread title and opening post are what the thread is about. Theres so many threads about this conflict, an actual misinformation thread would be worthwhile.

They often don't match, and up to a point meandering is only natural, but best of luck with a genuine misinformation thread if you wanted to start one

I guarantee it would be hijacked within the first few posts, and while some of us have linked false claims from both "sides" (god how I hate that word ...) you'll certainly be accused of only favouring the wrong one

How interesting, it just goes to show how we can misinterpret threads. I thought this one was about being careful to avoid spreading misinformation, rather than sharing specific examples of what we believe to be misinformation.

I must admit that "that only benefits Israel" seems a little unfair when what we are discussing is a terrorist group that has completed fucked over Gaza for years, is ensuring maximum civilians casualties there, and has global ambitions.

Let’s be honest. All threads are hijacked. @Ohlalalalala and I have opened threads and the first comment was to say how wrong we are and boring to open a new thread

I’m gonna leave this one inn2 threads as applies to both threads

Evidence Points to Israeli Shells in Strikes on Gaza’s Largest Hospital
Israel said Palestinian militants had misfired projectiles, but an analysis of photos and videos of Friday’s strikes shows that some of the munitions were likely fired by Israeli forces.
