My question to you

If Hamas was hiding in Tel Aviv, would it be acceptable to indiscriminately bomb Tel Aviv killing 4000 children, 10000 civilians, 24 journalists and 70 UN colleagues?

If a school shooter was hiding out In a classroom, when would it ever be morally accepted to bomb the entire school?

@Humdingerydoo If you are going to go by social media posts then there are hundreds of them of people on both sides dehumanising each other with thousands of disgusting comments on both sides, but many are keyboard warriors behind screens.
If you really want to see what dehumanising Is then go see how Israeli politicians openly speak about palestinians
And this is out in the open so who knows what they say behind closed doors

Sugaristheenemy · 09/11/2023 06:59

Ok so you think Israel (and a Egypt) just randomly decided on a siege? You don't think it might have had something to do with the constant attempted, some successful, terror attacks coming from there

Yes but Hamas would never have gotten hold of the region wasn’t destabilised from years of displacement and occupation.

Sugaristheenemy · 09/11/2023 07:01

I didn't say they're bombing because they don't have blueprints

Er….yes, you did.

Sugaristheenemy · 09/11/2023 07:04

They could bomb Tel Aviv indiscriminately but the Israelis would evacuate the civilian population first because they don’t use them as human shields.

So….
you’re not aware the people in Gaza are literally locked in and can’t leave?

feralunderclass · 09/11/2023 07:06

Purple back with her "Jew hater" hasbara. I've lived in Israel, and some of the most hateful people I've met in my life are women like her, who won't even let their dc speak with an Arab Israeli child (who are supposedly equal) because they are "evil, not human like us, Jew hate is in their DNA". They are a massive part of the problem and just expect Palestinians to disappear into thin air to prevent their cognitive dissonance from going haywire.

You think Palestinian politicians haven't been saying disgusting things?!

I'm talking about comments on the day of the massacre, before anyone knew what was going on. Rallies were organised to support it. To spur them on. People were celebrating in the Palestinian territories. In Sydney. Celebrating. Not just saying despicable things but actually celebrating.

Humdingerydoo · 09/11/2023 07:22

Sugaristheenemy · 09/11/2023 07:01

Er….yes, you did.

No, I didn't. I gave it as an example of why the initial question was a ridiculous one. It would never come up as there are blueprints and no terror tunnels.

So you're saying Hamas are a direct result of Israel's existence? But you don't see how Israel's existence in terms of Gaza and the West Bank is the direct result of war waged on Israel from day one of its existence?

Parkingt111 · 09/11/2023 07:24

@Humdingerydoo when do you think this comment was made?
And yes there may have been some people who did what you say which is absolutely disgusting
But these are dim witted idiots on the streets who although I'm not justifying it did not even know exactly what had happened. They saw pictures of para gliders with captions like the Gazans are finally breaking free. It was many hours later that was revealed the true horrors of what had actually happened

My question to you

In some ways I'm glad she openly says these things, it just confirms what I thought all along. Its not the first thread that she has and iv noticed none of the pro Israeli posters will ever say anything to her. All of this talk about standing up against anti semitism when you see it (which ofcourse should happen) yet the same posters won't call her out on the vile things she spews.
So much hypocrisy

I'm sorry, but the rallies and street parties didn't stop once the true horrors were exposed?! They say Hamas' own footage of them murdering and torturing Israelis. That's what they were celebrating. You normally come across as quite level-headed (albeit biased) on here so not sure why you're defending people who were celebrating. They knew what they were celebrating. Everyone did. We all saw the same footage. We all saw the live-streamed murders.

This poster has been blatantly racist on numerous occasions now, has had multiple posts deleted because of it. Her posts have been nothing short of despicable yet mumsnet continue to allow her to spread her hatred. And yes it is very, very telling that none of the pro Israeli posters can bring themselves to pull her up on her comments.

Parkingt111 · 09/11/2023 08:01

@Humdingerydoo I am certainly not defending it I said it myself that it is disgusting. I admit that i dont know much about these celebrations that you mention except that initially there were people celebrating it as some sort of break for freedom. When the attack first happened there was so much misinformation circling on social media that I mostly focused on news sites rather than socials which were horrific on both sides. There has always been some people who have had anti semitic views and have exploited what is happening now to be open about it and feel that the war now suddenly justifies their views.

What triggered me was your post where you were incredulous that the Palestinians have been dehumanised when that is all we are seeing
How is that not true

Sugaristheenemy · 09/11/2023 08:03

Are you for real? Are you seriously minimising the massacre to this?

She’s not minimising the massacre she’s questioning whether Hamas have infrastructure beyond some tunnels

You're talking about Hamas as though they're freedom fighters rather than trained terrorists! What is wrong with you?! Seriously?

Bit of an odd argument
You don’t need infrastructure to be a terrorist? Lack of infrastructure doesn’t make you a freedom fighter instead.

Humdingerydoo · 09/11/2023 08:06

Maybe pro-Israelis don't get a chance to see her comments before they're deleted 🤦🏻‍♀️ Hard to comment on stuff you don't actually see. On posts like these ones I tend to only see comments I'm tagged or quoted in. I read other comments when it's less busy but this one has been pretty fast-moving (and obviously also overnight) and now that I see references to her comment, it's been deleted.

I do often see that her comments have been deleted, but obviously not what the comments said

Freefree · 09/11/2023 08:07

Have you all forgotten everything that happened before Oct 8th?
All I hear is..Well if Hamas didn't do what they did then none of this would be happening.....
Why does Hamas exist?

Parkingt111 · 09/11/2023 08:10

Fair enough I agree that maybe you haven't and if you did then you would.
But I have seen on more than one occasion of posters totally glossing over her comments and continuing to post even when it hasn't been deleted
And I know the same can be said on both sides to some extent but its the sheer hypocrisy that Purple has that is so infuriating
Sometimes I wonder if she does it on purpose to just trigger everyone

Ecdysiast · 09/11/2023 08:13

This poem for the Palestinians, first published by June Jordan in the 80s, could easily be describing the past few weeks - what Israel is doing to the Palestinians today is a continuation of what it has always done.

"They blew up your homes and demolished the grocery
stores and blocked the Red Cross and took away doctors
to jail and they cluster-bombed girls and boys
whose bodies
swelled purple and black into twice the original size
and tore the buttocks from a four month old baby
and then
they said this was brilliant
military accomplishment and this was done
they said in the name of self-defense they said
that is the noblest concept
of mankind isn’t that obvious?
They said something about never again and then
they made close to one million human beings homeless
in less than three weeks and they killed or maimed
40,000 of your men and your women and your children

But I didn’t know and nobody told me and what
could I do or say, anyway?

They said they were victims. They said you were
Arabs.
They called your apartments and gardens guerrilla
strongholds.
They called the screaming devastation
that they created the rubble.
Then they told you to leave, didn’t they?

Didn’t you read the leaflets that they dropped
from their hotshot fighter jets?
They told you to go.
One hundred and thirty-five thousand
Palestinians in Beirut and why
didn’t you take the hint?
Go!
There was the Mediterranean: You
could walk into the water and stay
there.
What was the problem?

I didn’t know and nobody told me and what
could I do or say, anyway?

Yes, I did know it was the money I earned as a poet that
paid
for the bombs and the planes and the tanks
that they used to massacre your family

But I am not an evil person
The people of my country aren't so bad

You can expect but so much
from those of us who have to pay taxes
and watch American TV
You see my point;
I’m sorry.
I really am sorry.

Parkingt111 · 09/11/2023 08:13

@Humdingerydoo and as I said it was in particular to this poster that nobody calls her out
I have seen posters calling out Islamophobic comments by other posters but not sure why she is always the exception

Efacsen · 09/11/2023 08:26

When she's been called out before she has come back saying she is distressed by having family/friends in Israel and isn't getting much support - naturally the criticism turns to sympathy

So it isn't straightforward and guess that's why she's not been banned

noblegiraffe · 09/11/2023 08:34

Not sure you can complain that hideously offensive posts are being reported and deleted instead of engaged with.

This is gaslighting, narcissistic nonsense. She's just a racist, and she doesn't even attempt to hide it. It needs to be called out, not enabled. I think people would be a lot more sympathetic to her if she'd stop calling people "Jew haters" when they attempt to point out her racism.

@Ecdysiast thanks for sharing that, it's scarily applicable to what we are seeing today, but when you look at how the Zionist rhetoric positioned Palestinians, it's exactly the same now as it was in the late 1800s.

@PurpleChrayne has to be one of the most unpleasant posters I have come across. You go on and on about anti semitism and in the same breath call Jewish people who want a ceasefire 'Kapos'

And have on more than one occasion showed your disgust and contempt at ordinary Gazans.
But I'm glad you said it because this is the reality of how many Israelis do see the Gazans, they don't differentiate between palestinians and Hamas.
That video where the Israeli pop singer is singing along with the IDF note that she doesn't sing we are going to destroy Hamas but rather we are going to destroy Gaza
All this rhetoric that the IDF somewhat care for the Palestinians is not true.

When the war first started I was so angry at how immediately the normal Gazans were dehumanised by so many Israeli politicians. In the early days I kept trying to highlight the injustice the palestinians have been through prior to the war and especially the west bank that was often ignored.

But the Israeli government and IDF have single handedly done more to show the world through their actions on how they they view the palestinians, more than words ever could

Edited

infact @PurpleChrayne reflect in this forum , how Israelis government and IDF treat rest of the world.

@Humdingerydoo There have been terrorist attacks in India too from mostly pakistan terrorist's groups. likewise across the world. It just shows how vulnerable the countries security is. I personally did't give much focus to the news of 7th october initially ( I knew nothing much about the conflict too)

You don't know that when 9/11 happened ,other part of the world interpreted and reacted in different ways , people reacted towards countries policies, foriegn affairs with 3rd world countries etc etc. If anyone celebrated , that's not about civilians who got hurt and who got killed. It's towards the powers that were impossible to face.

hamas are terrorists now, but once they were innocent civilians too, so it be with Nethanyahu and IDF. So what we should talk about? What issues should worry us more. who has better protection and welfare?
