Conflict in the Middle East

How can this be said publicly?

I have name changed for this as my personal views on the conflict have changed in recent times and I don’t want to be abused for my previous views.

Can anybody verify if this is true? I’ve looked for the original footage but can’t find it. If it is, it is horrific and the fact that a minister feels comfortable saying this publicly is terrifying. How can the world watch on whilst this continues? I had some knowledge of the conflict in the Middle East but further research has been really eye opening and I still can’t quite believe some of what I’m seeing and reading.

unlikely. It wouldn't be an option between two areas so small and close together, anyway

Igotjelly · 05/11/2023 20:55

Yes it’s true and the minister has since been suspended, he also later said it was a ‘figure of speech’ 😑

PurpleChrayne · 05/11/2023 20:55

Netanyahu has sacked him, by all accounts.

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/11/2023 20:57

He did say it, and was suspended for saying it.

Unlikely that it is true he said it or unlikely that Israel would use nuclear weapons?

I'm relieved to hear he has been sacked but still find it highly concerning that he felt comfortable saying those things in public. Suella Braverman was once made to resign before being reinstated shortly after.

I don’t think it would happen, as the fall out would affect Israel. Gaza Strip is tiny.

that aside, it’s a disgusting thing to say, if it’s a true quote (I’ve not seen it officially quoted anywhere else). There are tiny babies in Gaza for a start. Pretty sure they are innocent and had no choice where they were born.

Wow. I'm surprised such vitriole can be minimised as simply being a figure of speech 😔

Unlikely to be considered, they are too small and too close, so it isn't even an option that COULD be considered, and in any case, Isreal are fighting for the return of their kidnapped citizens, they are not going to drop a nuclear bomb on them

Boomboom22 · 05/11/2023 21:02

Generally aren't all the Israeli government taking the line that their are no civilians in gaza anyway and if there maybe might be then they are being used so it's OK to kill them. They are not exactly hiding it. Biden said calm it down slightly or we will look bad carrying on supporting you essentially.

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/11/2023 21:03

There are some absolute bams in the current coalition government.

Reallifelurker · 05/11/2023 21:04

It’s true I think. At least they had the sense to sack him.

I agree. The comment about there being no non-combatants in Gaza is also really worrying as it means that there is no attempt to preserve the life of any civilians. 😢 What has the world become?

No its not a practical option but it does show the extremist attitude of some in Government.

Though its more than likely that hostages have already been killed in air strikes, I and apparently many of the hostages families dont believe they are a priority of the Government

The things I have been reading and seeing recently have pointed towards this but I still had hope that some things were being dramatised to drum up support. Reading that post in black and white horrified me. I get that there are some bad apples in most institutions but to feel comfortable saying it so openly is beyond worrying.

@Surplus2requirements The same page reported protesters outside Bibi's house today too. I think this was in relation to the lack of concern for the hostages.

He was sacked because his comment went viral and reported on all major media outlets
He said this just a few days ago but it didn't gather as much attention so was clearly given a pass then
I'm sure there are many right wing ministers who have the same view
He is a vile human who has a long history of demonising the Palestinians

How can this be said publicly?
SomeCatFromJapan · 05/11/2023 21:16

The Israelis and all their powerful friends could use their secret services to launch tailored attacks on the ground - which they claim to be the best in the world at. Instead they are CHOOSING to murder innocents and destroy a whole area to wipe out the Palestinian people.

I don't think it's that. Ground operations will kill far more IDF members for obvious reasons so the bombing in advance minimises those casualties, albeit at the expense of Palestinian civilians.

You should Google the "Sampson Option". Israel would destroy itself if it was the only way to defeat an enemy.

I have no words to add. How can our government provide support to this and the media coverage ignore these things? I have no faith in humanity anymore. None of the major world leaders have any integrity.

If you said that with a straight face to any military historian or strategist they would simply say "Stalingrad". Urban warfare in an environment strewn with rubble is generally acknowledged to be much harder for the offensive side than intact urban areas. Typically the offensive side will lose 6-7 soldiers for each one lost by the defensive side.

Yes. I think one of them was waving a gun around recently. Very peculiar politician.

Not sacked, he’s still in government, this from Haaretz ;
Later on Sunday morning, Netanyahu's office announced that Eliyahu had been suspended from government meetings until further notice.

the whole Government are Criminals.
