Conflict in the Middle East

How can this be said publicly?

I have name changed for this as my personal views on the conflict have changed in recent times and I don’t want to be abused for my previous views.

Can anybody verify if this is true? I’ve looked for the original footage but can’t find it. If it is, it is horrific and the fact that a minister feels comfortable saying this publicly is terrifying. How can the world watch on whilst this continues? I had some knowledge of the conflict in the Middle East but further research has been really eye opening and I still can’t quite believe some of what I’m seeing and reading.

How can this be said publicly?

I doubt they'd drop one on Gaza because that would impact them. Plus, I can't see what military advantage it would give them.

However, if Iran attacked them I think they'd drop one on Tehran. Iran know this, which is why they'd prefer hezbullah to attack Israel from Lebanon - that way, the Lebanese will suffer like the Gazans are but the men at the top will still be safe and rich

He was sacked because his comment went viral and reported on all major media outlets
He said this just a few days ago but it didn't gather as much attention so was clearly given a pass then
I'm sure there are many right wing ministers who have the same view
He is a vile human who has a long history of demonising the Palestinians

100%. If it didn't go viral he would still be in his position.

@watchingtheworldwithwoe If you are just starting to research the current tragic events and the background, my advice is: please brace yourself and go slowly as your brain will not be able to grasp the enormity of it all at once, and especially the fact that it was/ is a completely different narrative that was (and still is) prevalent in the West through politicians and the mass media.

I agree. The comment about there being no non-combatants in Gaza is also really worrying as it means that there is no attempt to preserve the life of any civilians. 😢 What has the world become?

I heard one claim that the war wasn't against people, it was against dogs.

GrammarTeacher · 06/11/2023 07:37

As others have said he DID say it but it seems there is a line BN won't cross

queenofarles · 06/11/2023 08:32

Makes no difference whether they use an A bomb or not, the only thing stopping them is that Gaza is right in the middle of Isreal ,
They are still killing people, very little humanitarian is entering Gaza, people are sick from drinking contaminated water and rotten food.

last night I saw a reel that completely broke me, I was sobbing uncontrollably I had to go out to calm myself and so that my DCs don’t see me crying,
and it’s not a reel of dead bodies or injured people , It was of a sweet little girl describing her pretty dress and that it was bought by her mother, the first thing I thought of is I really hope they are safe then it just hit me how deprived these beautiful children are from the simplest things.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 09:29

Really disgusting and lays bare the nasties in the Israeli govt. not to mention their nasty agenda.

Oh, and someone will soon be along to excuse it with "but Hamas...".

(Before they jump on with their bot style responses, no I do not support Hamas)

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 06/11/2023 09:59

He said that and a few other choice things.
If you build your coalition government by bringing in all the right wing extremists, you will run into issues.

Yes. I think one of them was waving a gun around recently. Very peculiar politician.

Some of them - most notably probably Ben-Gvir and Smotach - are just quite plain and open racial supremacists / ethnic cleansing advocates (no, I do not mean in the current flare up of the conflict but: generally!). Ben-Gvir may or may not be in the process of setting up something like his private militia through the back door, depending on your reading of his recent actions.

And, yes, this is an actual problem!

For years, successive Israeli have maintained they have "no partner for peace" - but any truly honest take would have to conclude that this is true for Palestinians, too! There is no "partner" in a group of people who openly call for them to be driven out into Jordan!

Utterly nuts!

And, for the record: since our mainstream press is utterly useless, we mainly have the Israeli left to center-left to thank for the fact that we know these things! I highly recommend following some of them online and reading the Israeli press!

Simplesimonsdog · 06/11/2023 10:04

Bot style responses 😂
I think there are bots on all sides judging by the same name changing posters creating and hijacking threads all the time. Or maybe just people with different opinions.
11,000 children have died in Yemen. An estimated 2.2 million children under 5 are suffering from acute malnutrition, and of those, more than 500,000 face severe acute malnutrition. Where are the nationwide protests about the government supplying the Saudis with weapons to Saudi war mongers and killing innocent children ? Zilch but then this conflict doesn’t fit into the typical imperialist/oppressed scenario so beloved of the far left or the nasty West versus
downtrodden Muslims scenario beloved of extreme Islamists. The fact that you see socialist workers party placards and Islamist ones in the photos of the marches says there are certain elements loving this conflict and trying to turn it into yet more division.
The photos released of injured Palestinian children and babies are very much destined to garner a certain emotional response and no doubt actively encouraged by Hamas just as the photos and live film released of the horrendous treatment of some of the hostages were. Children are clearly always the first and most badly affected victims of war, it has ever been so, why posters are surprised at that I don’t know but there’s clearly a sophisticated and successful agenda going on from Hamas to deflect from the atrocities they’ve committed and their hateful ideology.
The fact that the term genocide is constantly being banded around is telling. The posters identifying with children on SM ‘checking to see if they’ve made it through the night’ ramps up the emotion. I’ve never known a conflict like to employ SM in such a way to influence public opinion and it is actually very worrying.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 10:27

@Simplesimonsdog you've literally just proved my "But Hamas" post prediction.

I'm not denying there is a time and a place for many "But Hamas" comments, and I absolutely deplore their actions and they should be rightly called out, but doing so on a thread whereby an Israeli minister has suggested nuking Gaza is an option is inappropriate, missing the point, and a deflection from the original point of the thread, which was highlighting the radical and nasty nature of some of these Israeli politician. And let's not miss off mentioning your minimisation of the showing of Palestinian children's deaths and injuries as an "agenda". Would it suit your agenda better if nobody saw these injured children?

No I do not support Hamas.

immigrant002 · 06/11/2023 10:43

Its true he said it and he was dosmissed by netanyahu !
He said it for clout as anyone with half a brain would know what a nuclear bomb wiuld do to israel as well Confused

Simplesimonsdog · 06/11/2023 11:28

@bearofepic so why are they showing these harrowing and distressing photos probably without the consent of those concerned ? Most people are well aware deaths happen tragically in conflict situations but this constant reference to ‘dead babies and children’ is undoubtedly designed to cause heightened emotions and influence opinions. Every poster mentions ‘dead babies and children’, then it’s a ‘genocide’ now the bombs dropped are the ‘equivalent of a nuclear attack.’ Expect more coming posters parroting that Israel has dropped a nuclear bomb.

Appleblum · 06/11/2023 11:33

It is true that he said that, I read it on the BBC earlier, which I consider to be a very credible source. He has been suspended, not sacked.

Because the mainstream media isn't?

Because they want ordinary citizens across the world to see the truth of what's going on?

Because they want people to see them as human?

I don't think it's reasonable for one minute to judge them from our positions of privilege for wanting the world to know the truth of what us happening on the ground in Gaza. Remember Israel are not letting foreign journalists in.

MissLucyLiu · 06/11/2023 11:34

he's been officially suspended.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 11:40

@Simplesimonsdog when TV and social media showed graphic content of Israeli people sadly attacked by Hamas, and these have been and continue to be widely shared by the Israeli govt too, they were also shared to provoke a response. Does it mean they too should not have been shared? Your logic is laughable.

Re consent, if you don't want to see these things, stay off social media and don't watch the news. But don't come along and dictate and try to say that showing these deaths is somehow inappropriate. Each side has an agenda that is clear. I would honestly rather know that the truth about dead children is available for people to see however grisly so they can make their own minds up.

Being informed helps people make decisions about their position.

Regarding claims of genocide, war crimes etc all I will say is I can see what is going on and I trust the opinion of the United Nations, Amnesty, Human Rights Watch. They may not all be perfect but they have a huge amount of international authority and respect for a reason. Smearing them just shows the desperation of some people to distract away from what is going on.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 11:45

Also, to get back to the point of the main thread, we should probably try to ignore the derailers and nuclear bomb speak and child murder apologists... or the thread will go the way of every single other one that tries to highlight what is going on for Palestine.

LittleGlowingOblong · 06/11/2023 10:48

Apparently 25,000 tonnes of explosives are the equivalent in destruction to two nuclear bombs:

https://euromedmonitor.org/en/article/5908/Israel-hit-Gaza-Strip-with-the-equivalent-of-two-nuclear-bombs

They’ve landed on more people, and in a far more densely populated area, than at the detonation that took place at Hiroshima.

It’s heartbreaking.

Nothing like the same number of casualties though, thankfully.

Simplesimonsdog · 06/11/2023 12:00

@bearofepic
Child murder apologist ?
Wow.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/11/5/true-massacre-gaza-children-death-toll-crosses-4000-as-raids-intensify

Over 4000 children dead by Israeli bombing in the last few weeks. Not counting adults or general injuries.

Yes, it's horrible. I'm just pointing out that around 140,000 people died in the Hiroshima blast. So the comparison isn't really very strong IMO.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 12:05

@ProvincialLady1 4000 children dead in thee weeks is really disgusting isn't it? Especially when they are bombing health infrastructure, ambulances, bakeries and refugee camps.

ProvincialLady1 · 06/11/2023 12:13

Of course, it's terrible. It's terrible that Hamas have broken the Geneva convention by implanting themselves within civilian infrastructure.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 12:16

here's a news channel video report containing a testimonial from a physician who works at Al Shifa hospital. It's powerful viewing. In his 16 years of working there he saw not a shred of evidence that Hamas was present in the hospital.

Powerful watching for anyone who would like some "from the horse's mouth" reporting.
