Conflict in the Middle East

How can this be said publicly?

I have name changed for this as my personal views on the conflict have changed in recent times and I don’t want to be abused for my previous views.

Can anybody verify if this is true? I’ve looked for the original footage but can’t find it. If it is, it is horrific and the fact that a minister feels comfortable saying this publicly is terrifying. How can the world watch on whilst this continues? I had some knowledge of the conflict in the Middle East but further research has been really eye opening and I still can’t quite believe some of what I’m seeing and reading.

How can this be said publicly?

I did wonder about the respect for the dead in some of the Gaza footage I've seen. I couldn't imagine holding up dead bodies of children or dismembered bodies but the context in which you describe @bearofepic it makes sense. It's out of desperation for the world to see what they are going through. I have started following quite a few of the Palestinian journalists and still can't quite believe what I'm seeing. Meanwhile just now I came across somebody in an iPhone photography group I'm in on Facebook posting a photo of the beautiful sunset last night in Israel. How can two places be so nearby yet worlds apart? I have nothing political to add. I just feel really sad at the state of what is happening to so many civilians and children. I don't see an end to this.

What a normal leader would say/do in response to the suggestion of nuking Gaza

"That was a disgusting suggestion, we do not agree with what he said and I condemn it in the strongest terms possible" followed by instant dismissal.

What BN said
"He's divorced from reality" followed by a suspension.

He didn't condemn the suggestion. Divorced grom reality makes it sounds like its just not a practical option rather than a proposed large scale genocide.

What he didn't say is quite telling 😢

That the people of Gaza have to film and hold up their dead and mutilated for the world to see them as human, is a grievous injustice that the US, our government and many Arab nations have allowed this level of decimation and desperation to be inflicted on them.

Israel has continually violated human rights laws. It has engaged in nonstop cycles of documented apartheid and ethic cleansing. Now they're threatening to drop nuclear bombs? It is clear the aim is to obliterate Gaza.

There seems to be many posters on various threads who do not see the Palestinians as human.

No concerns about the 100s and 1000s of human lives lost. Too busy shouting out about 'pro-Hamas marches' and the words used by protestors because they offend their sensibilities and generally justifying a genocide.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 12:56

@starfleet

The minimisation on this thread alone is telling. As one poster a little earlier was very quick to post that "not as many died as in Hiroshima", the speed at which they posted this and the tone of the comment feels minimising.

The holding up of their dead is a cultural thing. They do it in earthquakes etc. as is the shouting.

I heard one claim that the war wasn't against people, it was against dogs.

Israel have historically positioned Palestinians as animals. So many quotes of politicians openly saying it too.

Who is "they?" and what us this culture you are speaking of?

why? What did I do wrong? They being the gazans.

Sorry if i've upset people. Wasn't my intention.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 13:37

I'm surprised you need to ask what was wrong with your comment.

Pastbedtime · 06/11/2023 13:39

It is not a cultural thing! No father or mother wants to hold the corpse of their child up to the world to see, yet that's what they've been reduced to. They've been told their dead haven't really been murdered. So they show the bodies. Then told the bodies are dolls or fake. So they release names and ID numbers. Then as a final insult they are told they themselves are to blame. Even in their grief the palestines are continually dehumanised.

It's not minimising at all. Making a comparison to suggest that the bombing in Gaza is on the same scale as Hiroshima without mentioning that the death toll is actually a fraction of that, is a really disrespectful attempt at thought-terminating cliché IMO.

Pastbedtime · 06/11/2023 13:49

Nothing they say or do surprises me any more. Hearing the vitriol the Israeli leaders say in public, it doesnt bear thinking what is said in private.
Here's the former israeli ambassador giving some thoughts.

When did Gaza last have an earthquake? I think you accidently let your Islamophobia out there.

NotSuchASmugMarried · 06/11/2023 14:26

When did Gaza last have an earthquake?

7 February 2023 was the last one. They usually have one or two every year.

Had to look this up, because I have never in my life seen or heard of Gazans holding up dead bodies of children following an earthquake. I've never even heard of mass deaths caused by earthquakes in Gaza. According to the earthquakelist.org, there are on average 2 yearly within 300km of Gaza. I cannot therefore understand the "cultural" element that that poster claims is typical of Gazans.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 15:09

@feralunderclass I looked it up too and could find no evidence or headlines indicating a recent earthquake that had any significant effects on people who had lived there. You would think if it is such a regular impactful thing there, it would be all over the news eh?

Or maybe the poster is referring to the "earthquake" like shaking and falling of buildings owing to the aerial bombardment of the city by Israeli govt.

starfleet · 06/11/2023 16:32

There is no let up is there?

The israeli president, Herzog, has said there are no innocent citizens in the Gaza strip. He blamed the entire nation of Palestine for this atrocity. He is blaming babies and children. Apparently according to him they are operating within international laws........I'd like to know which ones...?

(this is slightly off subject) .......and then you have Zelensky accusing Russia, Iran and North Korea of sponsoring the hamas attack on israel.

You can't make this sh*t up.

immigrant002 · 06/11/2023 19:40

He is not the only one saying this another mp
Was saying gaza children brought it on themselves

Natanayahu himself said the are the people
Of darkness ! Genocidal
