Placards from antisemitic marches in London

I had written this as a response to the other thread which was closed as it was overrun by antisemitic d**ks. As I'm sure this one will be too. They can't allow us to share the truth of what is being said and done in our own home towns and cities.

Look at these images. No, they are not in the minority or unusual. Here are just a few of many, many overtly antisemitic placards from Saturday's protest in London. (And a bonus one from 2021, which the lovely John McDonnell also spoke at.)

This is MY HOME. I am Jewish. My family fled pogroms in Eastern Europe and Nazis in Germany. Those family members who didn't flee were murdered for being Jews. And here we fucking are again. In London. And people defending it.

This is NOTHING TO DO WITH ISRAEL. These are Jew-haters, the faces of hate, the faces of anger and mockery, openly calling for Jews, for me, my family, my children, my parents, to be murdered, in my home city.

And people are defending it. How the fuck do you think we feel?

London?

The person that originally posted the video is saying it was London. I’m not familiar with London buses but the sticker on the window in the video seems to be the white text on a blue background that you see on London public transport.

You know it can be seen as very offensive if you are confusing these 2 headbands. One is that of Hamas and the other is a very important piece of Islamic text that Muslims recite daily. It literally means: I bear witness there is only 1 god (Allah) and prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the final messenger. This is a sacred bit of scripture that makes Muslims, Muslims. It can be found in almost all Muslim homes. It’s a sign of being a Muslim. It isn’t a sign of being a terrorist and not a sign of being a member of Hamas. That’s the other band. The first 2 images are Hamas headbands. Last one, the shahada, which just means you believe in one god and his final prophet is Muhammad pbuh

However, at the same time I will also add that given how little non Muslims know about the Arabic text, then it shouldn’t be worn at pro Palestinian marches if the aim is to intimidate. As there are “bad apples” within all groups of people, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised that some protesters were taking advantage of the fact that not many individuals know the difference and using it to intimidate. But, I bet this is a minority. A handful. However, at the same time there will be protesters wearing it as a sign of unity of Muslims too.

I get you but from the photos available of the handful of men? wearing the headbands I think context is everything. They seem to all be wearing a full balaclava as well. So less likely to be a solidarity thing for anyone but Hamas etc

Either way full balaclava and green headband seems more like a way to be intimidating than how you dress on a peace march

Yes it looked like a London bus and she sounded London but I wanted to check

Thanks

Well glad the people around stood up to her. There seemed to be two different people filming her too. That that is good. The more fuckwits that think the general public will stand up and that they may be filmed by different people the better

Is that Islamic text often worn on a green headband around the head in a similar style to the headbands worn by Hamas?

It walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and is called Donald but we're supposed to believe it's a kangaroo.

If the police manage to find those men I wonder if that excuse will wash.

Thats offensive isn't it to the Muslim community. What @noblegiraffe has said is absolutely right.

There's a lot of hypocrisy going on isn't there. (Not referring to just you). If anyone says anything against Israel's behaviour towards Palestine and you're called antisemitic.

Take a look at the video below and tell me that this isn't islamaphobic and disgusting behaviour.

How can you defend this behaviour and say that they're right?

“You’re probably wondering, why does Suella Braverman - her Jewish husband, her Zionist husband.."

I keep hearing that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism, but

Hamas has caused exactly what it knew would happen. It must live with the consequences. If this has led UK security forces to becoming aware of more enemies in our midst in the UK I hope they can address that.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 12/11/2023 21:39

Please take a look at the video below and you'll see it's not a hate march. It's a peaceful march where they are saying CEASEFIRE NOW. The signs are calling for peace. Nothing in it to suggest Jew hate. No pre printed signs as a poster suggested. You'll see signs that are hand written.

Stupid army idiotic behaviour but this is a thread about antisemitism or hate crimes on the marches and in the west. Would it not be more appropriate to post some of the appauling stuff the EDL were shouting on Saturday. Else something else that has happened hate crime wise in the west to Muslims. I mean there is a lot to choose from. Unless you are trying to associate western Jews with Israeli soldiers, some of which are not even Jewish. I don't get your point of posting that on this thread.

2boys1princess · 12/11/2023 21:45

The reason why I’ve posted about the headbands, is so you realise that it’s not always an attack on Jews. Ffs.
I’ve said it before that there will be a handful of protesters wearing it as an excuse to intimidate. There are people taking advantage of the crisis to incite hate on both sides. We all know that.
But, you look stupid when you start shouting about the head bands without actually realising that the headband with the Kalima on it is not the same as the headband worn by Hamas. And Green isn’t their main colour, black is.
the headband has been worn for years by a handful, originally it was a way of identifying yourself as a muslim and being proud of it. It’s a sign of being one united ummah which believes in 1 god and states who the final messenger is.

You are going with glass half full approach then.

They have started to take away people's visas that are supporting the marches and Hamas in the UK. I have very mixed feelings about this really. It is a slippery slope.

I don't think I am glass half empty or full. More not surprised saw this coming years ago and just plodding through it. Hopefully not to many of our rights and freedoms will be damaged or taken away by a reaction to these marches.

I don't think anyone has said that all the signs are antisemitic or hateful to anyone but the Israeli government. However the majority of the signs on these marches this time are pre designed and as we have all posted plus the media have reported there are plenty of Jew hate signs on the marches. Not to mention videos available of shouting about killing Jews etc.

Please just Google any media outlet and find videos or photos of a sea of pre designed and printed placards. Not sure you want this particular argument to be the knife you fall on. It is literally visibly true to everyone that sees in person, watches a video or sees photos of a large crowd of protesters at the march that pre printed signs have been made available

I'd rather look stupid than like an apologist for terrorists. They were cosplaying being in Hamas as well you know.

Right, I've tried to take your word here. I've googled Hamas headbands and there's a tiny, tiny minority of black ones, the vast majority are green.

Here's a picture of some Hamas members taken in 2010, and the protestors on the march yesterday. Are you seriously trying to argue that the text on the headband makes a difference to their intention and this is just an innocent mix-up?

I'm not Jewish, but I've been mainly watching and occasionally commenting on these threads because I work for a Jewish charity, and as such have many friends and colleagues within the community and know a little about the situation in both Israel as well as antisemitism in the UK. If any of my colleagues are on this thread then I'm going to out myself here and say that my daughter did her work experience with us and met holocaust survivors and made many friends.

If a 15 year old can look at these placards and see antisemitism, hear people at these marches saying "kill the Jews", "Hitler knew what to do with them" and recognise antisemitism, see Jewish homes and businesses being vandalised and compare it to Kristellnacht and say she's worried "it's all happening again" why the fuck are some people refusing to acknowledge this? Are they more stupid than a 15 year old?

I'm so glad my daughter did her work experience within the Jewish community. She heard first hand what happened last time during the holocaust. And she's seen the security measures in place now, well even before the current events. She's gone back to her school and questioned her own friends antisemitism, because now she sees it. It's always there bubbling below the surface with some of them as they hear from their parents how evil Israel is and by the same implication Jewish people in general.

Shame other people can't see things through the eyes of a 15 year old.

Trulywonderful · 12/11/2023 22:40

Oh darn we could have cropped the photos and then had a game of which ones are Hamas and which are protesters

I was going to get a friend to translate some of the headbands for me but then I realised it doesn't actually matter. Much like Allahu Akbar, it is a matter of the context. If shouted by a person holding a knife you should probably run away. If said at work by a colleague talking about a joyful occasion then all is well. The headbands not an issue if worn normally. However if worn with a balaclava or face covering headscarf at a march organised by ex hamas member and other know dodgy people then it is likely to be Hamas fan club. All context really.

Twillow · 12/11/2023 22:45

I don't see this anywhere on the posters, sorry, could you explain a bit more why you say that?
