Placards from antisemitic marches in London

I had written this as a response to the other thread which was closed as it was overrun by antisemitic d**ks. As I'm sure this one will be too. They can't allow us to share the truth of what is being said and done in our own home towns and cities.

Look at these images. No, they are not in the minority or unusual. Here are just a few of many, many overtly antisemitic placards from Saturday's protest in London. (And a bonus one from 2021, which the lovely John McDonnell also spoke at.)

This is MY HOME. I am Jewish. My family fled pogroms in Eastern Europe and Nazis in Germany. Those family members who didn't flee were murdered for being Jews. And here we fucking are again. In London. And people defending it.

This is NOTHING TO DO WITH ISRAEL. These are Jew-haters, the faces of hate, the faces of anger and mockery, openly calling for Jews, for me, my family, my children, my parents, to be murdered, in my home city.

And people are defending it. How the fuck do you think we feel?

'The Metropolitan Police will use facial recognition and social media 'analytics' as part of a 'sharper' approach to policing a pro-Palestine 'Day of Action' tomorrow.

Speaking in an online media briefing, Commander Findlay said: 'We are going to be using a sharper focus to inform sharper interventions to make arrests in big crowds.
'We have included faster-time analysis capability of social media and we are going to be employing retrospective facial recognition, so I want to make it clear that we will be doing everything within our power this weekend to make sure there is that fast-time, really robust response to emerging incidents that cause really grave concern to communities.'

She said this involved identifying individuals spreading offensive or harmful content on social media platforms first-time at a much quicker pace, and using the Met's database of wanted individuals.

(Is mumsnet included in the social media platforms they will be checking for harmful content? Just thinking about a few posters and their posts over the last few weeks. Maybe we should ask the mods to undelete some posts.Just saying 😉)

Hopefully, their snatch squads are better trained and better prepared. They need to be much faster, more direct and more authoritative than I've seen in a few videos.

If any crowd had turned on them, the peelers would've been buggered whilst waiting for the riot gear squad to turn up.

No nonsense policing is required. Not the softly softly approach.

I take it you have seen the video of the Whitehall arrest. Those officers were definitely under prepared.

I suppose up until know they have been thinking that if they don riot gear then it looks like they are being intimidating and at risk of public saying they were too heavy handed or were trying to start something.

However I this now is the time to stop pandering to the parts of society that cry wolf to much. The police need greater numbers of officers at the marches. To be properly dressed to deal with violence or rioting if they try to arrest someone

Jewish people in Britain have experienced the worst wave of hate incidents in modern times with more than 1,000 recorded after the Hamas massacres in Israel, experts in countering antisemitism have said.

The Community Security Trust said on Friday it had recorded the highest 28-day total since it started counting in 1984.Since 7 October, 1,019 hate incidents have been recorded across the UK, the date Hamas launched a series of attacks on Israel that left 1,400 dead, and more than 200 people taken hostage.

The figures include 47 assaults, with other incidents including the targeting of children and schools. In the same period last year there were 160 antisemitic incidents, meaning there had been a 537% increase, according to CST data.

I'm Jewish and I'd say the Star of David/swatstika post leftmost and the placard in central one at the bottom are certainly antisemtic.

I personally feel as though only Jews really get a pass to use language about Nazis in discussion but perhaps not one for placards, although I don't think antisemitic in itself. Personally it's that I find it overly confrontational and potentially offensive and alienating for Jews who want to criticise Israel if you consider they may be marching alongside you. I do agree that sadly too much of the Israeli government's actions towards the Palestianians (note, the government's actions - the existence of Israel does not necessitate any of this) - kafkaesque laws, sudden violence and imprisonment, ghettoisng - are all too like what happened in Germany.

'There is blood on your hands' is a fairly generic statement but in terms of 'blood libel' and the history of that it's not a great look, but not necessarily intended to reference that.

strikes me as a good reasonable post.

Yes, British Jews are now living in a more hostile environment. It’s horrible and we all need to be allies in calling out antisemitism where we see it.

This doesn’t surprise me at all.

Its even worse abroad. Shops openly displaying signs saying things like ‘Jews murder babies’ it’s so awful.

"abroad" is a very broad term.
and shops plural implies that it is widespread.
where is this?
pics?
These shops aren't in Gaza by any chance?

>>It’s horrible and we all need to be allies in calling out antisemitism where we see it.
by all means call out anti semitism where you see it.
We all should.
But it should never be used as a charge to suppress free speech and protest.
The very title of this thread does this I fear.
I find the attempts in some quarters to ban the march on November 11 on some spurious charge that it disrespects the dead of WW2 profoundly worrying,.
And just making this horror worse for all on all sides.

Echobelly · 04/11/2023 09:28

I'm certainly furious that bloody Bravermam is trying to use my religion to label support of Palestinians as 'hate marches', a cynically well-chosen phrase for right wingers to use to shut down calls to stop killing civilians.

The Tories don't care about Jews or even Israel especially, they just know since Corbyn they can use anything related to Jews to bash Labour and force them into fighting because the Tories can cry 'antisemitism' at anything other than unqualified support for Israel, even though that's bullshit.

And it pisses me off because right wing non Jews using AS to push down leftwing politics comes back to hurt Jews because people start seeing us as 'suppressing free speech by crying antisemitism', when it's not even us doing it.

lol no around Europe. I don’t really want to post pictures on here. I dont understand the level of denial on here. Sure you can hate Israel but don’t pretend it’s done nothing to Jewish people and their safety.

Have news for you - so much in life is not binary.
You can despise anti semitism and also hate other things.
Hence I guess why humanity in all languages came up with the word but.
There is not s single over-riding truth.
Despite the ambitions of many dictators.

So yes I despise anti semitism.

And yes I believe in lots of other things.

Despising anti semitism does not cancel out the other things.

It's all pretty simple.

All groups of people and religions will have exstemists. If you don't think Islamic exstemists have taken over the marches you are not watching what the rest of us are watching. Not everyone on the march that is Muslim is an exstemist however once you look at who some of the organisers are you see they are know for exstemists views. If you look at some of the arrests they are for offences that fall under the exstemists category. If you look at signs you see a clear nod to radicalisation. The same goes for social media posts from attendees of the marches.

My Muslim friends call the supporters of Hamas and the hate marchers as well as the Arab cause supporters 'Munafiq'. To be honest most the Muslim people and ex Muslim people I know are pretty pissed off about how these marchers are portraying the Muslim community. My friend's mother says this country was good to her when she moved here and Jews have always shown kindness to her family. She feels that the Munafiq are trying to destroy the trust people have built here. That they do not care about the Gazens and are using the marches to prove they can get away with anything they want. Also just to upset Jewish people around the world. At work the general feeling of my Muslim colleagues is about the same as my friends mother. However they say within the community they cannot voice this because the very small minority that hold extremist views would make their lives hell.

well said.
The Met are coming under intense pressure from Braverman and my fear is that because of the Met's weak position at the moment they will just roll over and do her dirty work.

That's just word salad, @FordAnglia, not worth the effort of typing it frankly.

I think you mean the zmet and the government are coming under pressure by the majority of the general public especially Londoners to get a grip on these marches.

The feeling in London from most non Jews is the same as most Jews about these marches. The met are not exactly meeting peoples expectations off how they should react to bursts of hate crimes and calls for violence. On the plus side the longer these marches go on the more people with extremists iviews in are communities will be arrested. The more information the anti terrorist officers will gather and the more names on their list. Plus it is a good example for non Jews of how history can repeat itself if we don't all stand together and say no to hate of other groups in our communities.

Echobelly · 04/11/2023 10:12

I'm sure this must be deeply upsetting and worrying to the Muslim community overall. I think the answer is, just as Israel shouldn't be bombing all Palestinians to get to Hamas, the Met and home office should be stating they will target extremists, who usually make themselves pretty damn clear at protests, rather than unilaterally deciding that calling for a ceasefire = 'a hate march'.

Look, I won't lie - I have shied away from protests about Israel's actions in the past because of the likelihood of coming across people who would make me feel uncomfortable as a Jew. Though with the size of current ones and the fact that large Jewish blocs are attending I would be more likely to go, though I haven't been free to attend any yet.

Of course it’s not funny. It was a ‘lol’ to the depressing situation where I feel like so many posters needs proof of antisemitism as if they don’t want to believe it, because it doesn’t fit with their narrative.

Stomacharmeleon · 04/11/2023 10:46

@FordAnglia you might not profess to hate Israel but you ask for evidence of every tiny thing that's posted to prove antisemitism.
Eg over 100 arrested after the match in London and more arrest to come. (Independent)
There have been lots of damage to properties in France (Paris had star of David's spray painted 60 in one case)
Rises in anti semitism (Berlin)

And I don't know. If i want more info on something I go and look not automatically put prove it....pictures or it didn't happen.
