Placards from antisemitic marches in London

I had written this as a response to the other thread which was closed as it was overrun by antisemitic d**ks. As I'm sure this one will be too. They can't allow us to share the truth of what is being said and done in our own home towns and cities.

Look at these images. No, they are not in the minority or unusual. Here are just a few of many, many overtly antisemitic placards from Saturday's protest in London. (And a bonus one from 2021, which the lovely John McDonnell also spoke at.)

This is MY HOME. I am Jewish. My family fled pogroms in Eastern Europe and Nazis in Germany. Those family members who didn't flee were murdered for being Jews. And here we fucking are again. In London. And people defending it.

This is NOTHING TO DO WITH ISRAEL. These are Jew-haters, the faces of hate, the faces of anger and mockery, openly calling for Jews, for me, my family, my children, my parents, to be murdered, in my home city.

And people are defending it. How the fuck do you think we feel?

"Having said that only stupid people will attack innocent Muslims or Jews who have no control over events."

Stupid isn't the word I'd use to describe them. Criminal antisemites without moral judgement who are likely to do worse are the words I'd use to describe them and that very much includes people carrying placards repeating the Christ killer libel.

Have you any idea how many deaths that particular fallacy has resulted in over 2 millennia @Rubbishagain , most recently within living memory? Hitler was racially rather than religiously motivated but the fertile ground seeded by such slurs made it so much easier.

So people are only and solely allowed to discuss the fact that white phosphorus bombs are being used in this topic. Nothing else to do with or linked to the middle east conflict. Just that one sole subject or else be accused of "covering it up"

And you have MN approval for your new terms for the board then? Because that's not the message they gave out when they originally set it up?

Fucking hell, what is wrong with you? Talking about something else is not covering anything up. There are multiple other threads talking about what is happening in Gaza and you are perfectly free to start one so why don't you do that instead of getting off on derailing a thread about anti-Semitism. It's pathetic.

ganondoof · 01/11/2023 22:36

Oh and telling people "If only [anti-semetic] placards were our biggest issue" is belittling.

Trulywonderful · 01/11/2023 22:40

Rubbishagain · 01/11/2023 21:26

A bit iffy????
it is relevant. All these events are related. The massive bomb attack on tents is not going to help relations. Having said that only stupid people will attack innocent Muslims or Jews who have no control over events.

They are not relevant to a discussion on if some signs are antisemitic or not. Plus the general conversation about antisemitism. Even if the event was about Gaza. What has that got to do with people spreading hate? The only people that normally say it has are people trying to justify the antisemitism at these marches. Therefore no wonder posters are going to ask why post on this thread etc

Anyway I agree with sentence and that is in keeping with the topic of conversation.

Look you can literally post what you like on this thread nobody but mumsnet mods can stop you. However I am going to think it is iffy and I think most other posters will too. That is it really 😶

Most countries/political groups have signed up to an agreed definition of anti semitism. And within that is that it is anti semitic to compare Israeli government policy to atrocities committed against the Jewish population (and many other ethnic groups too) during the holocaust.

Which means its impossible to talk about the potential impact from genocide caused by the Israeli government and use comparisons to one of the most well known holocausts without being anti semitic.

Sorry but they need to change the definition then, the Israeli government are exactly doing that. Not the Jewish people the world over ( who mostly are appalled by what is happening) but the Israeli government, the IDF and the settlers are the aggressors here. Don’t equate the two as the same, that IS being antisemitic. Orthodox Jews in Jerusalem were being abused by the IDF today.

Livinginanotherworld · 01/11/2023 23:36

noblegiraffe · 30/10/2023 19:22

Those scenes from Russia where a mob were hunting for Jews to attack hasn't given any of these 'I can't see any antisemitism anywhere' posters any pause for thought?

Or the threats to kill Jews at a US university who have been advised not to go to their building?

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/10/29/us/cornell-university-antisemetic-threats-online-investigation/index.html

Nothing to see anywhere?

Unfortunately there are anti-semitic people around the world who are using this as an excuse for their disgusting views, they should rightly be called out and prosecuted wherever possible.
But the majority of people just want Israel to be stopped from committing these terrible atrocities and for Gaza to be safe. That’s what they are marching for, to call on their governments to put pressure on Israel and to show that this is not acceptable at all.

noblegiraffe · 01/11/2023 23:40

But the majority of people just want Israel to be stopped from committing these terrible atrocities and for Gaza to be safe.

I would hope that the majority of people want Hamas to be stopped from committing these terrible atrocities and for Israel to be safe too.

For some reason, some people forget to add that bit.

Trulywonderful · 01/11/2023 23:42

Yep some very forgetful people out there

And in so many ways when it suits their narrative

OhDoPutASockInItDear · 02/11/2023 01:17

@BlurredEdges it's terrifying that such people live and breathe in our country. No Jew in the UK is responsible for what's going on in Israel yet many are having to feel unsafe and scared.

Where's your evidence that 'the Israeli government are doing exactly that'? Because if they are systematically compiling lists of Palestinians, rounding them up onto cattle trucks, and gasing them in their millions, then the world needs to know.

Otherwise shut the fuck up with your antisemitic false equivalence.

Stomacharmeleon · 02/11/2023 10:38

@Livinginanotherworld it's so offensive you would say that and absolutely not the same.
I despair.

Jewish people suffered. Does that make Israeli Gov exempt from being held to account for causing the same suffering? We can't compare it, despite its obviously the same, because that's antisemitism?

Your false equivalence is the very defintion of antisemitism.

Stomacharmeleon · 02/11/2023 14:21

@Caffeineandicecream it unequivocally is not 'the same'

backtowinter · 02/11/2023 14:23

@Caffeineandicecream

It's not obviously the same at all

It's not even remotely similar

I think Mumsnet is doing a very good job ( as it also does on the trans issue) of allowing free debate.

It allows women with different views to discuss things and hear each other. I support Israel. I am a Christian and am against any anti semitism of which there is far too much in the UK. I do believe in freedom of speech.

The placards are dreadful. Any which are illegal should be stopped.

Uricon2 · 02/11/2023 14:51

Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Meshaal, currently tucked up safely in Doha, knew what the Israeli response would be. They knew. At the pro Palestine rallies, are there placards condemning them, both for the 7/10 attacks and their depraved indifference to the suffering of their own people, or calling for the release of the hostages? I have extreme doubts but glad to be corrected.

I've seen no one on this thread suggest that the life of a Palestinian child is any less precious than an Israeli child. It is a tragedy that the leadership of Hamas don't think that way.

Agree - but quite different of course from the charge that the marches are anti-semitic themselves.

If I go on the 11th, I will have it out with anyone expressing anti semitism/carrying anti semitic banners.

The unfortunate truth about anti semitism is that you are as likely to find it a church tea party as a protest march. Quite possibly more so.

Stomacharmeleon · 02/11/2023 17:16

@Uricon2 I hope mossad deal with that issue.

Really? You think tea drinkers at a church event are as/more likely to display antisemitism as/than people on an anti-Israel march? Do you need to tell yourself lies like that in order to feel ok about the company you're planning to keep?

I've never been to a church tea party, are there many swastikas?

After the pogrom Hamas released its own video of a woman that they had stripped naked and were parading around the street. All whilst their supporters spat at her.

The last people that I saw evidence of doing such a thing were the nazis. When they stripped Jewish women and marched them through the streets. Whilst crowds of on lookers spat at them or hit them with sticks.

( The elderly hostage that got realised said Hamas men had hid her with sticks as she was riding on the back of a motorbike bike to the tunnels)

So the people copying the actual behaviour of Nazis in this conflict are Hamas. Hamas are the nazis of the middle east.

And Israeli army released footage of them kidnapping fathers and sons from their homes in the West Bank, stripped naked, tied up, humiliated and kicked and thrown around before killing them.

By your definition, they are also Nazis of the Middle East.
Hamas actions are disgusting, and Israel's actions are disgusting.
Netanyahu has publicly displayed a map showing just Israel, Palestine gone. Palestinians gone. He wants to erase the people of Palestine, who have no defence force and no power.
