This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

It' s interesting that neither of the Israeli gov tweets or Shanis mothers account to the German newspaper say where the piece of skull was found - whether it was at the festival site or in Gaza

If it was in Gaza - IDF retrieved some hostage bodies a week or so ago - then all bets are off for what might have happened to this poor girl

Struggggggling · 30/10/2023 15:36

Seems like Netanyahu is trying to drag all of this out, Hamas have said they will release the hostages in exchange for the 10,000 people being held by Israel - many of whom are children.
The question no one seems to be asking is why would Netanyahu benefit with dragging this out, surely can' be because he is currently fighting charges against corruption in Israel.

If there’s a swap and Hamas continue how could you know they wouldn’t attack again as they did with barbaric actions on October 7th?

He's between a rock and a hard place right now.
Doing a swap also sets a precedent for more hostages to be taken in the future
On the other hand the families of the hostages are mounting up the pressure in an environment where he is already being heavily criticised

I thought Hamas giving that poor girl's family false hope was yet another cruelty in the whole thing. It was clear from the footage that she was already dead but what parent wouldn't hope?

They have recovered parts of her skull, likely from a decapitation, so saying she was in a Gaza hospital was a cruel lie.

With all that carnage they manage to find some of her skull?

Struggggggling · 30/10/2023 15:48

How would Hamas know that Israel won't continue murdering men, women and children as they have been throughout this year, prior to October 7th over 200 Palestinians had been butchered by Israel.

No one knows what Hamas or Israel will do, but what we do know is those hostages would be home if a swap os agreed

This draw out works for netanyahu and are delay tactics for him to stay out-of prison. The Israeli people have been protesting against him in their hundreds of thousands. Their voices need to be heard too.

It may be for security reasons. Israel have given out limited information about their ground offensive in Gaza

Do you know anything about Zaka? They literally go around collecting every single fragment and bit of blood that they can find. And it's then DNA tested.

Parkingt111 · 30/10/2023 15:56

Iv just seen
The poor hostages knew that at one point there was a possibility of a deal being made
It wasn't monotonous like she was reading a script but a heartfelt emotional plea to Netanyahu to secure their release
I found it quite distressing to watch so I can't imagine the turmoil their loved ones must be in

This is completely normal after an event like this

The USA still has 100s of unidentified human remains from 9/11

Re-reading her mother seems to think it was found at the festival ''her suffering ended there'' paraphrased

@Efacsen

Agree not scripted passionate and from the heart

Poor poor women and poor poor relatives

Just heaping more cruelty misery and suffering on a pile that's too high already

Oh gosh that's awful, their families must be distraught. I can't bring myself to watch it.

It is. But the absolute nerve of Netanyahu calling it "cruel psychological propaganda". I mean it is, but coming from him I just cannot stomach.

In the video they put the blame on Netanyahu. They say along the lines of we pay our taxes to you and this is what we get (paraphrased)
Il see if there is a transcript somewhere

Are you for real? It's taken over three weeks for this piece of bone to be identified because it was impossible to tell which of the slaughtered victims it belonged to. It indicates just how brutal the attack was.

Which of the kidnapped, maimed or slaughtered victims would you have preferred it come from?

Trulywonderful · 30/10/2023 16:14

Apparently there are thought to be 200 British citizens still in Gaza. Egypt and Israel are saying they are allowed to leave. However Hamas is blocking them from leaving. Government ministers here are saying they want them classed as hostages now as well.

I suppose this will end up applying to other foreign nationals that were working or visiting Gaza if Hamas won't let them leave too. So the hostage numbers will rise even if only a technicality for now.

Only seen a couple of sources on this and nothing official yet. So we will have to see if true and what the British government say about this officially.

You may be closer than I am

I can’t see a swap and continuation of Hamas. Maybe I’m missing what should happen next though

Parkingt111 · 30/10/2023 16:20

@etmoietmoietmoi I can't find the full transcript but this is part of it from sky news

She also says 'we are in shevi' I'm not sure what that is
Accusing Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to protect Israeli citizens during the deadly Hamas attack and failing to get them back home, she called for an agreement to secure their release in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
"You were supposed to free all of us. You committed to free us all. But instead we are carrying your political, security, military, diplomatic failure," she said.

EsmaCannonball · 30/10/2023 16:23

Hamas have said they killed no civilians on October 7th, they've said they took no hostages on that day, and they said this young woman was being cared for in a hospital when they already knew they had murdered her and defiled her body in a lynch mob. Why does anyone believe anything they say?

As for the hostages criticising Netanyahu, it reminds me of the hostage videos of ISIS captives being forced to criticise western governments, or Saddam Hussein's hostages being forced to do the same. Whatever Netanyahu has done, the hostage situation is all on Hamas.

etmoietmoietmoi · 30/10/2023 16:30

@Parkingt111 God that's heartbreaking. I did end up trying to find the video there but couldn't (which is probably for the best)!

Netanyahu's office named the women as Daniel Aloni, Rimon Kirsht and Yelena Trupanob

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, an umbrella group for families of abductees, said the three women’s relatives would give a press conference in Tel Aviv later on Monday.
