This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

Conditions on the Palestinians being released seem quite draconian. There can't be celebrations, they can't talk about conditions in the prison, they can't talk about their treatment in the prison.

According to the news, they appear to have done all of those things. No doubt they'll moan if they get rearrested

If the Israelis released have the same gagging order then I agree with you.
However
Given many have been in prison for years how can anyone expect them to keep quiet. It’s an unreasonable expectation.
Lets not forget

200 aid trucks were promised as part of the deal but only 137 were allowed in.
Palestinians were tear gased, shot at and some killed early in the ceasefire.

Hostages were still released.

ketchup07070 · 24/11/2023 21:09

@KingofIthaca It's true that conditions have not been exactly met on both sides. Let's hope a little latitude can be given both ways so the hostage exchange and pause in fighting continues,

Iwasafool · 24/11/2023 21:05

Have the hostages committed new offences or is the wider community celebrating?

They were very clearly told

  • no public celebrations
  • no flag waving [it's an offence]
  • ?consorting with Hamas fighters - IDK probably illegal/definitely a bad idea

There are loads of photos of the boy prisoners doing these things all over the internet as evidence

KingofIthaca · 24/11/2023 21:11

Efacsen · 24/11/2023 21:03

I don't think so - it often happens this way

And after all Israel has kept their side of the bargain - they released them in line with the agreement

And now they've committed new offences

They haven’t kept to the deal though

Only 137 aid trucks were allowed in, not the 200 promised.
Plus Palestinians were shot and killed at the check points today.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/11/2023 21:12

They probably think they won't get rearrested immediately because Israel wants to get as many hostages out as possible so they re chancing it.

Absolutely.
Hamas still released the hostages despite Palestinians being killed during the ceasefire.
So yes, a little latitude on both sides

Committed a new offence by celebrating being released 😳. They have no control over their lives do they, it’s so bloody sad.

KingofIthaca · 24/11/2023 21:16

Happyvalleyfan · 24/11/2023 21:13

Is celebrating a criminal offence?

One of the Palestinians released was jailed for hitting a checkpoint with her car.
No one injured.
Children jailed for throwing stones
Children shot and killed for playing football on the beach.
On this basis

Yes celebrating could be considered a criminal offence even when it’s done in their own country

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/11/2023 21:16

Happyvalleyfan · 24/11/2023 21:13

Is celebrating a criminal offence?

Well it probably is when it's a condition of your release.

And, as you said, the aid is far short of what was agreed.

There were 200 security checked trucks ready to go - the Rafah crossing isn't designed for this volume of traffic so they didn't get through

Israel needs to open the Kerem Shalom crossing as well to cope with the amount of traffic which the aid agencies have been requesting

Yes I understand this but many hundreds more every day has been going in so this was never a problem before.
Amazing coincidence that it is now.

Before the war/siege it was 500 lorries/day but the crossing from Gaza into Israel was open and so wasn't all going thro' Rafah

Lack of willingness to co ordinate and agree to the entry of aid only has one result.
The suffering of Palestinians

Efacsen · 24/11/2023 22:07

I completely agree with you

Israel needs to open another crossing

Parkingt111 · 24/11/2023 22:34

Sky news reporter just gave an account on what happened when the people tried to go back north today after the truce started
He said he narrowly missed getting shot himself by Israeli snipers
That would have been a disaster

Parkingt111 · 24/11/2023 22:39

The names of the hostages that will be released tomorrow have been given to the Israeli ministry which is a positive sign

Efacsen · 24/11/2023 23:07

Efacsen · 24/11/2023 20:34

Oh no - there are photos on al Jazeera of the released boy prisoners being greeted by guys in full Hamas costume - masked face and green headband

They really don't do themselves any favours - they'll all be banged up again by tomorrow

Just want to say al Jazeera have removed this - the editors there must be monitoring mumsnet [joking]

Anyway it's gone

KingofIthaca · 24/11/2023 23:27

More than 2 dozen Palestinians injured outside Ofer prison whilst waiting the release of Palestinian detainees.
Tear gas, rubber and live bullets used against them.

It seems no one is safe anywhere at any time in this war.

Weddingpuzzle · 25/11/2023 09:23

Who is imposing and setting the rules about celebration of release? Who is likely to be captured and held for breaking these rules?

On a side note. We have some posters here who are free to consistently denounce and hound people for posting:

  1. graphic content
  2. asking questions and for evidence
  3. the use of language that they say is discriminatory
3. 'over emotional hyperbole'

They seem to take this allowance and apply it in a daily basis. They themselves feel it is completely justified to post exactly as above (with no trigger warning) if that content suits their 'side'. I saw one poster swearing at and calling a poster a fucking idiot and another openly using discriminatory language about religion and a religious building. Since when did MN allow bullying and personal attacks between posters and hate speech? There are some polite, informed and respectful posters with opposite views on here so it can be done.

Parkingt111 · 25/11/2023 09:33

@Weddingpuzzle I was also shocked to see one about religion and religious building too
Not on this thread but a different one
I'm not sure if it's still there or has been removed now

Weddingpuzzle · 25/11/2023 09:42

@Parkingt111 I reported it as hate speech. The thread was a bin fire. I have screenshot so many examples of discriminatory language about a religion and ethnicity that would be deemed as absolutely shocking and immediately deleted if it was used against any other religion.

What gets me is these posters are (rightly) vilifying hate speech but then engaging in it themselves and seem to justify it.

Weddingpuzzle · 25/11/2023 09:58

@Parkingt111 MN have left the hate speech standing as apparently it was 'robustly challenged' and now the other posters have piled in on the person who 'robustly challenged' it and are calling her a 'goady tosser'. Bullying and hate speech can stand on this platform.

Parkingt111 · 25/11/2023 10:08

@Weddingpuzzle In the context of the conversation i can see why the posters intentions might be challenged although I don't agree with the name calling

But the post about religion and religious places was straight forward discriminatory in my own opinion but anyway as not to derail this thread i won't post further about it here
