This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

@Stomacharmeleon I agree

ketchup07070 · 23/11/2023 14:15

Yes, @Stomacharmeleon Very true. It may not help the deal progress smoothly if things get worse in the West Bank. I'm not sure, but Hamas has fired off rockets because of violence in the West Bank before, so they seem to regard it as their job to retaliate if residents there are harmed too much.

Parkingt111 · 23/11/2023 14:35

BBC news
First group of 13 hostages will be released tomorrow at 4pm

Doesn't mention which time zone

Efacsen · 23/11/2023 14:38

@Parkingt111 it's 4pm local time 2pm [GMT}

And good news too

Parkingt111 · 23/11/2023 14:39

@Efacsen thank you

Will there be a truce in the West Bank at the same time?

The whole issue raises a problem
Israel has said if anyone whether Hamas or not ‘fights’ during the pause Israeli given will assume guilt on Hamas and the deal is off.
So if fighting happens outside the pause area does this mean Hamas are at fault and the deal is off
Or is the pause just for the Northern part of Gaza where there will be a no fly zone.
Will bombings continue in the southern parts ( even with people taking the opportunity to escape there )

Efacsen · 23/11/2023 14:45

@KingofIthaca my understanding is that there is no aerial surveillance in southern gaza 24 hrs/day for 4 days

In northern gaza there is no aerial surveillance for 4 hours a day for 4 days

The US have also agreed to the same terms for their aerial surveillance

Parkingt111 · 23/11/2023 14:49

A bit more hopeful now
Israel has confirmed they have recieve the names of the first hostages to be released tomorrow

Efacsen · 23/11/2023 15:23

This is what al-Ansari Qatar FM said about half an hour ago

In response to a question about other fronts, al-Ansari says the pause covers “only the Gaza Strip”.

He clarified that Qatar’s mediation was between Hamas and Israel.

“We are not talking about other fronts. We talk specifically about the situation in Gaza.”

@Parkingt111 it disgusts me that Hamas are quibbling over allowing the Red Cross to see the hostages that are left behind. I am thinking of those who were injured- hersh goldberg-polin for example.
It is psychological Cruelty to not let families know whether they are alive and how they are.
It makes me wonder if they know where they are? If they are in the country? The pain of the children leaving only surviving parents behind :/

TRIGGER - GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION

I'll be surprised if Hersh is still alive. I have seen the video of him being shoved into the pickup truck by Hamas. Although he'd put a tourniquet on, his arm had been blown off at the elbow and you can see there was some bone exposed. If he didn't bleed to death the risk of infection must have been extremely high.

They may well be quibbling because a) they don't know where everybody is b) some are almost certainly dead c) they're in a really bad condition after 6 weeks.

Or d)
Tit for tat
You show me yours I’ll show you mine.
There are two sides in every war.

Or e) Hamas don’t want their location exposed

Stomacharmeleon · 23/11/2023 15:54

@StarbucksSmarterSister that's really heartbreaking. His mum met the pope this week with other hostage families. Her pain and anguish is palpable. She speaks so lovingly about him.
There are a few particular hostages I think about daily. Whether they are ok. He is one of them. If he is dead I hope they allow him to go home to his mum.

Weddingpuzzle · 23/11/2023 15:55

It could be to do with location. Been looking at the geography of Gaza. It's apparently 30 odd miles long and 10k wide. Similar to the distance from Liverpool to Preston. It's tiny. I can imagine that once you've revealed a captions of one set of hostages you'll very quickly find the locations of others. I'm really surprised that it's taking this long tbh. But I guess if they are in tunnels as claimed drones won't find them.

Really feel for the hostages. Apparently the tunnels under Al Shifa were oppressively got. I think if they are in tunnels and are injured they will be in terrible shape.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/11/2023 15:55

Most groups (like Hamas) allow the very neutral Red Cross to see hostages and make sure they are ok.

lostonmars · 23/11/2023 16:23

Efacsen · 23/11/2023 12:45

That post is a month old and presented completely out of context

Why do that?

It only just showed up for me. Huge apologies. Why do what? What context am I missing that makes kidnapping ok?

lostonmars · 23/11/2023 16:25

ScrollingLeaves · 23/11/2023 12:56

Out of context anyway,

but the poster never said that ‘makes everything all right’,

I bet all the families of the hostages are praying that their terrorised, captured loved ones, living though unimaginable torment , are being treated in any way “well” - rather than tortured and starved and left without medical treatment if they need it.

Of course it does not make everything all right. If it is true, it just makes it a tiny bit better than it might have been.

How is it out of context? It doesn't make it alright, so there's no need to mention it unless you're trying to defend it.

EasterIssland · 23/11/2023 17:32

Ceasefire to start tomorrow morning

Hostages
Iwantcakeeveryday · 23/11/2023 17:39

So now only 13 hostages are being released?

Efacsen · 23/11/2023 17:44

Iwantcakeeveryday · 23/11/2023 17:39

So now only 13 hostages are being released?

That's just tomorrow - then similar each day for the next 3 days so 13x4 =52 altogether

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/11/2023 17:48

This from Maayan Zin, her 2 girls are not on the list.

Also it is being reported by news sources that apparently 3 year old Avigail Idan, whose parents were murdered on the 7th of October will also not be coming home tomorrow.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 23/11/2023 17:52

Really it is cruel to not release the children all at once. Cruel of course to take them in the first place.

Pray all will go well so they can come out soon but the anguish and worry must be unbearable.

A spokesman for Tom Hand has just announced Emily is not on the list either.

Children who have no family with them should be released first surely? Unless they're dead, can't be found or others are in a worse condition.

It's sickening.

I have reported my thread about the bodies Israeli holds hostage as I think it was misplaced here.My apologies.
