Come on in, collect the Grolsch bottle tops for your DM shoes at the door

We're going all-out 80s for the continuation of the Mass Summer Diffment Project: John Hughes films playing back-to-back and on BESH FM, DJ ChoCho will be playing our all-time 80s faves, from New Romantics to Synth to Goth to Hair Metal to Pop and back again (no Fields of The Nephilim, mind). Our bartenders and waiters are Ducky from Pretty in Pink, Ralph Macchio (the Karate Kid) and Corey Haim (back from the dead especially for us) and unlike most of the real 80s, we actually get to booze!

Here's hoping the authentic 80s vibe will trick our bodies into thinking we've got the ovaries of teenagers!

(Not to mention tricking them into being super skinny and able to eat whatever we want and staying that way!)

There's plenty of Babycham and Ice Magic to pour over ice-cream in the Pit and Metal Mickey will bring them to the wretched at the click of a finger.

So whaddya waiting for? Slip on the ra-ra skirts, slap on the blue eyeliner and let's get winning those baybeez! Last one in the pool's a psycho hose beast!

THANK FUCK FOR THAT. Re. Gin I mean. Love from me on my holibobs-excuse haste! X

Orchid12 · 07/07/2010 13:18

Great news on the velcro Gin

Ocster - you must be my twin!! Also 31, TTC since Dec. Am I also right in thinking you work at a Uni? If so, there are frightening overlaps.... As you know Mr O has got his jizz test tomorrow. We saw el doco several weeks back and got told the same thing as you. Not long enough, blah, blah, blah. So, I asked if he would refer us to a private clinic and he came up with the recommendation to go and have a private test for £60 at the local andrology unit rather than going to a fertility clinic. All I had to do was phone them and explain and they booked us in there and then. Might be worth you doing the same if you want to get things moving? V. frustrating but s'pose they have to go with the stats that x number of people get diffed within 12 months.

Cass sorry to hear you're in the pit. I felt the same yesterday when I got another signle line on a test. Much pissedoffness followed last night. It really is the biggest pile of and inducing emotions ever.

PollyPoo · 07/07/2010 13:18

Slow you can take up to 200mg of B6 so if your current dose is not helping matters you can increase. That said, 'they' (as in, medical persons) reckon it can take up to 6 months for levels of supplements and vits to build up in system. I however, thought that you pissed out any 'extra' vitamins that body did not need, or cannot process, hence nuclear yellow wee. But then what the hell would I know?

Orchid12 · 07/07/2010 13:20

occster forgot to add that I also have wonky cycles. I took all my charts etc to the doc too to show him my latest 48 dayer that must have been annovulatory and it got dimissed out of hand!

Ocarina · 07/07/2010 13:28

Latest advice is 2-3 times a week. Apparently.

Sorry you're struggling Cass. The whole hoping/trying not to hope so you can't be disappointed thing is so wearing. I know I've spent a fair amount of time recently wishing I could hide away under a duvet somewhere until either I'm pregnant or I know that it's never going to happen and can decide what to do next. Are there any twirls left in the pit?

Hi there Orchidtwin . Although I don't work in a uni so perhaps not so twinlike (I've spent far too many years in them as a student but have eventually escaped to the real world). Did you have a particular reason for wanting a jizztest, or just wanting to get on with things? I can't imagine TH being very impressed if I tried to get him one without the GP recommending it.

Orchid12 · 07/07/2010 13:40

Ah, perhaps twas me thinking you had done a PhD? Or is that Scorps Doesn't take much to confuse!

No, don't have any other reason apart from me being mean and wanting to see Mr O suffer the indiginity that I suffered at my last gynae appt . We just figured that for the sake of £60 it would be good to get it done if we had the option. Would rather know if there is an issue and then we can slap it on the docs desk and ask them to get on with it rather than waiting. Impatient - moi? Jamais...

MountTheFairy · 07/07/2010 13:44

Stew why so glum? I have an appointment on the 22nd too, but at the FC... Ok, why so glum is a stupid question, but I mean, any direct reason for the current onset of menkul?

Ocarina · 07/07/2010 13:46

Orchid I do have a PhD but am not currently doing anything even vaguely related to it. If I remember rightly Scorps would have/be doing a PhD if the people who fund such things didn't keep messing it up for her, but I too may be confused.

PerfectDromedary · 07/07/2010 13:57

I fink Mountie is an academic. And I would have a Phd if I hadn't been too lazy creatively challenged to finish it.

Stew and Aries Wassup, petals?

Casserole · 07/07/2010 14:59

Do you know, I'm not sure.

It'll pass.

Ocarina · 07/07/2010 15:41

You've got a lot to deal with at the mo, and ttc on top of that is always going to add to the emotions. Was going to offer you a hug but that doesn't seem very BESHlike (far too much soppiness going on round here recently!) so have a Glasgow kiss instead.

PollyPoo · 07/07/2010 15:46

Sorry you are feeling crappy Cass.

iggypiggy · 07/07/2010 17:20

gin yay! Fantastic news! Big snogs xxxx

Casserole · 07/07/2010 17:29

Thanks Poll, that's a good point and no, they didn't. I will ask on the 22nd. What should I be asking?

MountTheFairy · 07/07/2010 18:09

Well, not really an academic. I do teach architecture at uni, but we do not need a Phd and all that malarchy, we just need to be cool. Which was a sarcastic comment, obv. I do like academia, and would like to make a career in it, but as architecture is not proper academia, I am also mastering in Urban Studies, which is sort of related, but more prevalent in universities in the sociology or geography departments, and more chance of being a proper academic. Which would mean some more years of Phd, and I am now feeling old, and wondering whether to stop rocking the boat and just continue being a boring ole architect. And it is adding to my menkulism re. diffage and what not. So if anyone has any advice on this as well as getting updiffed, please to share. Wasn't HeadyHeadyBangBang the proper academic one? Oy. 'Eady, any advice, luv?

CassInARole, my banshee of a GP usually sniggers when I ask for results as I am not in a medical profession, which she always enquires about. So with great reluctance she gives me results which I guess one can google, though I usually ask my gyno friend from accross the pond.

Perhaps just ask for a print out of all results, though they may not want to give out jizzults without Him being there.

I wonder if everyone knows who I am after all this personal info.

Ariesgirl · 07/07/2010 19:00

Are you ok my lovely Casserole? It's such a horrible flat feeling isn't it? I haven't gone long enough yet to warrant a visit to the docs but have gone long enough to consider myself weird, barren and unlucky. Snot fair. I agree with Ocsta there has been lots of soppiness on here lately, so I'm using up my last bit to hug Cass.

We (MrA and I) have had the most hideous day today. However I have really found out who our friends are and the cockles of my heart (is that a phrase?) are warmed. I sobbed all over a bloke's shirtfront who I don't actually know very well . Kind of know him a bit better now, especially seeing as I had to wipe my snot and tears off his T shirt. I have a bit of a New Crush actually - I must have a hero complex about him. The I cuddled his babies and one of them said "crying" at me and kissed my tears. Made me melt.

sausagegirl · 07/07/2010 19:22

hurrah for gin and the boc!

slow - i can only apologise and offer to make you a smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel to make amends. or chicken soup?

fig - thank you for the advice, it's good to have some questions prepped to ask the consultant. 2kgs - eek! she says that it's position has expanded my womb by a 1/3 and she doesn't want to risk surgery, so hopefully the provera will shrink it. one of those wait and see what the tablets do...

wet willies all round and wham bars for everyone!

Scorpette · 07/07/2010 19:25

Aw, Aries, what lovely friends (and friends' offspring) you have! That is totally cockle-warming. We all have our off days (and months. And years) and I just hope you feel better tomorrow

Yeah, it's me wot is supposed to be doing one of them there PhDs if the fuckers ever cough up some cash. Bangers just finished hers, if I'm not mistaken.

Well, have come back from Lap check-up chat with big smile on face. Saw lovely Fanny Man (gynae) who opened the chat with 'So, I've been reviewing all your test results and those of your partner and I need to ask: why aren't you pregnant yet?'. To which I replied, 'that's what I want to know, as well!'. Was v thorough and helpful (even whipped out last manky bit of stitch). Stoopid notes saying I have heavy periods now also saying I find sex painful (WTF?) so I had to go through all that and get it all taken off me notes (for the 5th farkin time). Why are Docs making these presumptions? P'raps I just look like a delicate flower Aaaaanyhoo, told me all about the Lap again - said my tubes were totally patent and, in fact, the dye had 'whooshed' through much more quickly and easily than it usually does in most women. Also, my womb is 'flawless' (absolutely flawless). Now that's the sort of compliment a childless 37 yr old wants to hear! When you're younger it's all about looking hot, now I just want my reproductive organs praised Re-iterated that all my and TYF's test results are 'excellent' and also said that he wouldn't patronise me by asking me about how often I have sex and is it vaginal, etc. Then gave me dreaded 'Unexplained Infertility' diagnosis. Won't get Teh Clomid cos I ovulate every month and all hormones are tip-top. Said there's no reason why I won't get pg naturally, but if I'm worried about time being against me, I will be offered 3-5 rounds of IUI AND then if they don't work their magic, will get 2 goes at IVF - is usually one but our Trust will give 2 to women viewed as a 'good bet', or words to that effect.

Sorry if all my good news is a bit hmmm when others are not getting great results, but as the man said: so why am I not getting pg?!

I am also now moving like the Tin Man after a rigorous workout fuelled by good news. TYF is going to have to do all the work for Project Lorra Sex tonight (so what's new?)

Ariesgirl · 07/07/2010 19:38

Well done Scorps, her flawless womble and whooshing tubes! That's the kind of news you were after. And that's great that they'll give you a few rounds of this n that - all systems a go.

rollerbaby · 07/07/2010 20:16

Scorps that is all brilliant news... and massively reassuring to know you can have a go at other stuff if you want to... This really is the week of good news. Now get a glass of wine down yer neck and knickers off luv.

Muser · 07/07/2010 20:48

Glad to hear it's good news Scorps. Although I imagine somehow it would be better to have something to pin it on, so at least you'd have something to work with.

But hopefully this means it's just a case of luck, and July is a lucky month (cos I was born in it). Go go ScorpsTheShagga!

Medee · 07/07/2010 20:55

EVening all

Firstly, Ginny my dear, absolutely delighted to read it is good news!

Scorps well done on your flawless womb!

I didn't update yesterday, as it didn't seem appropriate, but I went along for my ultrasound. Ovaries are absolutely clear, one or two cysts, but nothing indicating PCOS. I also had dildocam as she couldn't see both ovaries v. well. Left one bigger than the right, and she found the Corpeus whatsit. Then, she confirmed my uterus lining was thickening just the way it should be and then she found the 2mm sized fluid sac containing the BOC. She even gave me a print out of that shot, so I have a super early scan shot. V. exciting!

Muser · 07/07/2010 20:58

Medee has a BOC! A real little BOC! Awww, I am so happy for you. Glad it's all looking good.

Saladbomb · 07/07/2010 21:02

hello ladies, loving the 80's theme, very appropriate as i've been lurking in this thread reading the roller coaster that is your reproductive journeys feeling somewhat like a new girl sitting in the 6th form common room ear wigging on the convos going on around. can i bribe my way in with a smuggled flask of cinzano and lemo, and a bag of rhubarb and custards? what is so lovely is that you are all so supportive of each other!!!

i have a couple of total NOOB questions, i reckon this is the best place to ask... i have my first appointment at the gyni clinic tomorrow having been referred by my gp, the letter was only addressed to me so i was assuming i had to go on my own but now i am para that i should be taking the other half with me. would it have included him if i did. can anyone tell me what to expect?

also what in gods name is BESH? and am i going to have to deploy the [slap head] emoticon when someone points out the extremely obvious answer?

Medee · 07/07/2010 21:06

welcome Rocket, your drinks are most welcome, but in order to be initiated in the ways of BESH, first you must find out what BESH means. (shouldn't take you long!)

I took MrM to my appointments, but I hadn't got as far as gynae at the hospital, so not sure. In my head it makes sense for you both to be there, as it doesn't just take one person to make a baby.
