Hi! Can I join in? Trying for baby no 2 (as you can tell from nickname!) but to no avail.. due to periods which have gone AWOL since April. Docs think it may have been copper coil which has since been removed.
How can I calculate when I am ovulating? Help!

UniMummy · 22/07/2010 21:18

Thanks Loopy!

I have posted in health this evening about this, but wonder if anyone knows on here...

I have an underactive throid and have not been ov'ing. It has recently gone from 8 to 5, so only 1 above the normal range now . Do any of you ladies have experience of this and know how long it takes for the body to adjust and get back to normal?

Am a few days late now so hopefully ovulation crept up while I wasn't looking, but if not I think I need some reassurance. If its unlikely I can concieve for a while I really don't want to keep getting my hopes up over a non starter

UniMummy · 22/07/2010 21:20

Wanting there is an ovulation calculator if you scroll up oh, and welcome!!

UniMummy · 22/07/2010 21:21

Just read your post properly, sorry!! Having a brain fog day! Have you thought about using ovulation sticks? Very cheap on ebay in bulk.

hattyyellow · 22/07/2010 21:22

Unimummy - I too have underactive thyroid which came on after first pregnancy but wasn't diagnosed until it was taking a while to ttc no2. The month they started me on thryoxine I concieved - fingers crossed the same happens to you!

digitalgirl · 22/07/2010 21:26

HATTYYELLOW!!!!! How are you me old mucker?

UniMummy · 22/07/2010 21:27

Hatty, thank you soo much. Feel a lot better hearing your positive experience!
The same happened to me, it bounced between underactive and overactive after DS and has now stuck at underactive. DP thinks I have lots of clothes, but only half ever fit me! Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it..!

WantingBabyNo2 · 22/07/2010 21:28

UniMummy Yes, I bought some from Amazon and so far they are showing that I am not ovulating.. Have only used them for 2 weeks. Not sure if they are actually working. I have been thinking that I could have PCOS, I get pains and other similar symptoms. I may just be self-diagnosing to somehow make myself feel better. I fell pregnant so easily first time around and am relatively young so I cannot help but think it is something more sinister.. although docs smear test came back fine. They have said to wait to Sept until I go back..I can't! It's driving me mad! I really hope I am not the only one who is obsessed with it all!!!

Loopymumsy Thanks, it's great! I have a feeling that I am not ovulating because I don't get any of the symptoms. I am not sure why though.. Has anyone had problems similar to mine with the copper coil?

I am too. I think I may wait one more month then persuade the docs to start investigating. They really are not taking me seriously, I assume that is because I already have one.. so frustrating!

mrswill · 22/07/2010 22:07

Hello all,

Big congrats to you KirstyJC! Hopefully there'll be a few joining you soon.

Karstan, Im trying to eat healthily too, but keep shoving 100gram bars of dairy milk down me every night. I tell myself I have to put on weight for this pregnancy as I had hyperemesis with the last one

Hmmmm, question, how hard are 2 DC to cope with?? Everytime I say to people how I would love to have another, they pull a face and tell me 'oh no, stick with one, much easier'. They're ruining my mental image of 2 dc playing lovely in the garden together . Cant be that bad....

zinnia · 22/07/2010 22:08

Blimey. If I do end up on the May bus (which strongly suspect I will) am going to need some kind of crash course in charting v OPKs/the Clearblue thing.
That POAS site is a-maazing.

Lib76 · 22/07/2010 22:10

unimummy i wondered this myself and read the other day that it is the number of days between ovulation and your period...i think!

Sitting at back drinking a wee green tea while passing round some fruit and nut

WantingBabyNo2 · 22/07/2010 22:16

mrswill I have that same mental image too.. it's wonderful! Fingers crossed for you!

zinnia · 22/07/2010 22:16

That's something I spend quite a lot of time wondering about too mrswill - actually now trying not to think about it as ttc gradually taking over my life (well 3 weeks out of 4 anyway).

Think it would be tough for a few years, though does depend in part on the age gap. The proverbial '2 under 2' is apparently quite hard work, for instance.

However just seeing friends with two or more - they do play together, and fight of course, but holiday last month with 3 other kids (2 x babies, 1 x 3 yr old + my 2 yr old dd) convinced me of the up side. dd SO much easier to manage with other children around.

Prinpo · 22/07/2010 22:44

Lib, on a board like this it's easy to misconstrue a sentence that starts 'sitting at back drinking a wee' . Had a horrible image in the microsecond before I read 'green tea'. I thought for a moment it was one of those obscure ttc things that I hadn't heard of yet.

mrswill · 22/07/2010 22:51

zinnia My DD is also much easier with other children around, so much so, that I look after various nieces and nephews a lot, so I may as well have another. I never felt broody before having DD, but since having her it seems to have flicked a switch! I still cant imagine the logistics of having 2 though, thinking back to my first few weeks with DD, even though she was great to bf and was a good sleeper. But I enjoy being around my friends houses who have lots of children, it looks like fun chaos, and babies don't stay babies forever.

What age gaps would there be, for those of us who already have DC? DD will be nearly 3, which Im told is a little bit easier than the 2 under 2, but Im not convinced

WantingNo2 welcome! And I hope you figure out the ovulation issues. We also fell pregnant very easily last time, and theres the same expectation the second time around isnt there.

God, Ive just realised, I just washed my Pregnacare down with a huge glass of wine. Hmmm, bad mother alert. Twas no crap though, a lovely Cabernet savignion, so no harm done

Good luck to all testing!

LadyGoneGaga · 22/07/2010 23:07

UniMummy - I'm underactive too. I have to say at TSH of 5 I would feel utterly, utterly shite. You are undermedicated at this level! You want to aim to get it under 1 ideally. The problem is that most Doctors think they can just treat your blood values and not your symptoms and treat the lab reference range as gospel. There is a big difference between 5 and 1 - trust me.

I can't speak for the ttc bit as DS wasn't planned (much wanted though) but I did have him the year I was diagnosed and treated.

Do you have any children already? Just bear in mind when you do fall pregnant they'll put you under consultant led care to keep an eye on you due to potential growth issues with baby if under-medicated. Given you are actively ttc I think it's really important they put your Thyroxine up to a less conservative dose. Have you spoken to your GP about ttc?

bit late but CONGRATULATIONS KIRSTY!!! Fantastic news

ljg and karstan sorry AF got you

delilah any news?

If DC2 comes along this month (hahaha) it will be 2 years exactly between DS and DC2. I really want three or four so got to get a blardy move on...

Starting the SWI section of the month (months are now divided into sections. The AF section, the SWI section and the 2ww section) so lots of spontaneous rumpy planned for the next couple of weeks

rosieposey · 23/07/2010 07:00

Hello all, mind if i hop on lateish in my cycle? Im on the 2ww and i am driving myself crazy here with symptoms spotting (waiting for AF to possibly arrive)

I took myself off the March bus last month as it didnt seem i was ovulating then didnt bother joining this month as i wanted to see if i was, i stopped testing opk's at CD19 as it seemed i was going to have an anovulatory cycle again this month but got some ewcm on CD23 i tested with a clearblue digi opk and sure enough there was a so swi'ed three times in the next two days so fingers crossed.

My cycle up until last month was usually 29 days though so god knows whats happened - im really keeping my fingers crossed that given i ovulated probably last Sunday i get a long enough LP for a bean to stick so although i am on CD29 today i really hope i can get to CD 34/35 which would take me to 10/11 DPO (next Tuesday or Weds) keep your fingers crossed for me.

Congrats to KirstyJC its nice to get a BFP on the thread isnt it

Well thats my background - if nothing works this cycle (my 8th) i have a CBFM to start with for the next one - ill post my stats (and update them for today) anyway and hope to test on CD35.
