New thread starts here - may it be a lucky one for all who post in her!

thanks everyone for the lovely messages!

Splash - I think I've been taking Metformin for about 6 months. I started on a low dose, which was increased after 2 months (to 1700 mg a day). In those 6 months I ttced twice -the first time in February which didn't work, and then in July which did! The Metformin definitely kick started my ovulation, as blood tests before I started taking it, and then last month showed my day 21 progesterone levels had increased quite significantly.

Good luck!

elliott · 28/07/2003 13:01

Bayleaf, I know you're keeping a low profile at the moment but I seem to remember you were going to be cycling again around this time - just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and hoping for the best....

Lexy - waiting times vary hugely, you need to find out specifically what the wait for new patient appointments is for the specialist you've been referred to. If your GP doesn't know, find out the name of the consultant and phone their secretary at the hospital, who should be able to help. Worth doing before you shell out any money IMO! fwiw, I had a wait of 3-4 months for my first appointment, which I thought was acceptable.

Hi everyone, I'm back again.
Popped in briefly last tuesday but have since been off work with the Flu - Back now anyway.

Congratulations dot
I'm so pleased for you.

Turned out this month wasn't meant to be for me - A/F arrived on Friday - day 38 - very frustrated but will just have to keep trying.

Hows everything going TM and Quackers?

quackers · 28/07/2003 13:16

Hi Jemma7, glad you're better, at least you were'nt poor;y for your birthday last week! Thanks for asking, going very SLOW and steady. Just coming to 6 weeks now, so fingers crossed.
Well, someone down below said there's one a week at the moment, be good if that rate could be kept up. I have to say since coming on this thread there were quite a lot that got pg. I thought it was encouraging and it;s great to share tips for ttc. I wouldn't have had a clue till I started reading all this and using my trusy persona.
Good luck this cycle Bayleaf and everyone else for this month!

Jemma7 · 28/07/2003 13:20

I don't really want to get inot using Persona etc at the mo as we have only been trying for 7 months but equally i don't still want to be here in a years time.

Would u suggest persona? is it difficult to use?

Marcia · 28/07/2003 13:30

Hi Ladies,

I'm new here so nice to meet you all!

I read you talking about how difficult is to get an appointment with a specialist using NHS services and I'd like to ask you a question:

In your opinion, what's the best private health insurance you can get that covers pregnancy and birth (and assisted reprodution if needed)?

I've been living in UK for 1 year and a half only so I have no idea which private insurance is the best, which is the worst... But I can say that I'm not happy at all with the NHS services in my area (Bournemouth).

We are trying to conceive our first child and we're thinking of going private.

Thank you all in advance!

Marcia

LucieB · 28/07/2003 13:32

Jemma
I would definitely recommend Persona. Like you, I had been ttc for about 6/7 months and Persona helped me to find out when I was ovulating - which was later than I had thought! I got 'o' (ie ovulation) signs in the first month of using it and fell pg that month! It is much easier to use than the sticks.
Hope that helps - it definitely is worth the expense.
Good luck!

quackers · 28/07/2003 13:48

I can only agree totally with LuciB, it's so much easier to use than ov sticks, especially if you have long cycles as you only get so many ov sticks. I got pg the first month using Persona. It picked up the LH hormone on day 11, which was 2 days early for me and so 12 hours later I took my Dh upstairs ! It is expensive but if your cycles are different every month, you've got even less chance of getting pg. It's normally only 25%! See if anyone has one spare. I think Luchar has given hers away, but there's always somone. I'm not quite ready to give mine up yet though - just in case!

Jemma7 · 28/07/2003 15:09

Thanks for the advise girls - going to start a new thread....................."Ppppppppllease give me your Persona kit"

luchar · 28/07/2003 15:50

Yes, my Persona has gone! I'm posting it out to Splash when I get her address. Really pleased about your news Dot1 - excellent!! Hope there's some more good news soon! Good luck everyone.

Jemma7 · 28/07/2003 15:54

Blimey - got one already!
It will be in the post for me tomorrow!
No doubt i will need a few lessons on what the hell i am actually supposed to do with it!!!!!

LucieB · 28/07/2003 16:32

Jemma - they have a useful website...best of luck. Both quackers and myself fell pg in the first month of using it so hope it brings the same good luck to you!

quackers · 28/07/2003 16:39

How are you LucieB??? Don't get to speak now we're in diff months!!

LucieB · 28/07/2003 16:49

I am fine - the queasiness has never been really bad and seems to be lifting although still feel permanently tired. DH scanned me at the weekend and looks like my dates are just about right. Looking forward to my 'official' scan next week. Then have booking appointment with midwives the week after - same team as before, which I am really happy about.
Time seems to be going really slowly right now but nearly through the first trimester.

splash · 29/07/2003 07:57

hi everyone,hope u r all ok.
i bought the ov sticks this month and because my cycle was 28 dys last month it tells me to start on dy11 for testing,. i tried the first one yesterday and the surge line was lighter than the test line, but today when i used it it looked lighter than yesterday? has anyone else had this?
I usually get ov pains when i ov, i thought i was feeling this on sunday and that would of made it day 10, so i could maybe of missed my surge? does anyone know. or it could it be that my ovaries were tender because i am going to ovulate in a few days and the surge line is going to become stronger.oh I am a worrier aren't I.
I did have pco years ago but had ov drilling to get rid of them. im worried now it may have returned. although im still getting a period i may not be ovulating. is this poss?
I need some good advice on these o sticks, is it a good sign that i am getting a line, can you get none at all?

BigBird · 29/07/2003 09:35

Splash, I've a 26-29 day cycle too. Last month I started the ov sticks on day 9. Day 9 and 10 I got a faint line and day 11 I got a much stronger line. I didn't keep testing so I don't know if the line fades away over a few days. I temped aswell and could tell from a sharp rise on day 14 that OV was day 12 or 13 (and had pain to coincide). It could very well be that you missed ov on Sunday (did you bd anyway ???). I am day 10 today and am going to start the sticks from today. I will tell you if I get no line....but as far as I know you get a faint line normally and only should be watching out for a darker line than the test line. There could be numerous reasons that one day was stronger than the other for you....like did you hold on for 4 hours before testing ? What time of the day did you test. Keep bd'ing anyhow - just in case!!!
Good luck and keep in touch....

splash · 29/07/2003 09:39

thanks bigbird.i did bd. i have been doing it first thing in the morn when i wake up. is this the best time.

BigBird · 29/07/2003 10:18

bding or opking?

On the opk kit I have it says to test first thing but I read somewhere that first morning urine may not always show the hormone rise, so around noon - early afternoon is better. Though you must still hold onto 'it' for 4 hours so lots of people can't do that! I usually get to work and hold it and test around 12:30am.
Are u still going to keep testing every day ? Lets hope you haven't missed it but if you have then maybe start from day 9 next time.....

splash · 29/07/2003 10:24

i see what you mean about the bd or opk. imeant opk. i may start testing in the afternoon now then.let me know how you get on. thanks for the tip.

bluecow · 29/07/2003 12:09

Splash - i think what people have said on other threads about having faint lines when using pregnancy test sticks - a line's a line! I have PCOS and my new pack of Clearplan ov sticks says not to be used by people with PCO. I guess that's because we can have irregular or no periods...? However they work for me and I do get a line when I'm about to ovulate, faint or otherwise but none when I'm not. Yes you can have a period apparently with no ovulation but don't get stressed by that - I think as you've had ov drilling you are fine. PCO can get better as well you know! I had steroid treatment years ago for my PCOS (I'm told they don't do that anymore) but it seems to have worked for me cos I have a 9 month ds and am on tenterhooks as I think I might be pg again...
I get pains when I ovulate but as we're all different and if you are particularly in tune with your body you may well sense them before you ovulate.
I think if no joy this month then start testing earlier next month, maybe?

bunny2 · 30/07/2003 22:47

Hi all,
Marcia, I am also in Bournemouth. Have you seen Julian Pampaglioni? He is a consulatant here, I saw him on a private basis and he got me ovulating. My frined saw him (NHS) and now has IVF twins so I'd say his track record is pretty good. I saw him at the Nuffield but he has surgeries at Bournemouth hospital too.

Quackers, how're you doin mate? Any early signs yet?

I am about to ovulate again so lots of shagging for me . Fingers crossed for this month.

Is Egypt still about?

quackers · 31/07/2003 12:10

HI BUNNY2!! Lovely to hear form you, sounds great all that shaggin!! ! I'm ok, just worried and nervous etc.. Got a scan hopefully next week , so I will knoe hpefully. Just don't feel v pg. I'm 6 weeks tommorow. Got big boobs and gone off tea, coffee and had spots, so hope it's enough!! I'll keep you posted.
Good luck bd'g this week!!!! Best bit!!!

bunny2 · 31/07/2003 14:40

Hi Quackers, cant believe it is scan time already! Let us know how it goes. I was all ready for a night of passion but ds had other ideas and spent the night in our bed, between us, sleeping like a log while we were hanging off our sides of the bed letting opportunity slip away. Tonight he goes to his own bed no matter how restless he is.

niknik · 31/07/2003 17:06

I have been on tenterhooks all day as I have had my day 21 progesterone levels taken today. I work at the hospital so have just got my results and it has come back at 75. Does this seem OK I dont know if it is a bit high, as I seem to think one of the earlier threads said 30 was normal.
I am going to see the specialist on Monday for the first time, but I dont think I can wait until then to find out
Jemma I'm sorry about your planned suprise being ruined, but I'm sure it will all work out for the best.

Marcia · 04/08/2003 09:56

Hi Bunny2! Thank you very much for your kind reply to my question. I'll try to get in touch with Julian Pampaglioni. Best wishes for you!
