A continuation from the previous two threads we have filled going round in circles about whether to have a baby, or whether never to have a baby... All insights and new recruits welcome!

(and those of you now with BFP's - don't you go sloping off leaving us for more decisive types!)

Definitions courtesy of Dr Honeypetal Sparklepants.

Dither: vb. def. The act of procrastination and delaying of coming to a decision regarding reproduction due to an attachment to lie-ins, working bowels and cheap holidays in term time.

Ditherer: n. def. One who is in a permanent state of flux regarding whether to procreate or not (see def. of babyometer). On the flick of a coin, may ultimately not reproduce, or bear triplets. Whatever. pl. A confusion of ditherers.

Babyometer: def. Semi-quantitative scale upon which an individuals current extent of dithering (i.e. desire to conceive) is measured, commonly red, amber or green, although reddy-amber, greeny-amber and reddy-ambery-green have been described (see def. Dithering). Caution is required during interpretation as measurement may change hourly.

Hoorah! Great news about the scan LST. Must be a bit of a relief that its just the one. The idea of twins is quite appealing, but the reality is bloody hard work. And you've a better chance of a safe, trouble free pregnancy with just the one. And how wonderful to hear that your DH is a bit excited. I bet he'll be completely smitten by the time your little one actually arrives.

I've been a bit gormless today. My little bump is making me too big for my regular jeans, but I have been reluctant to move into my meternity jeans cos they are way too big. Today I felt I had to, so have been shuffling around in my enormous jeans complining about how big they are and sporadically having to pull them up. About half an hour ago I discovered that they have elastic on the inside that you can pull in and make the waist band smaller. So I did, and they fit now.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 20:01

I'm liking the sound of maternity jeans even though I'm not pregnant! Lovely loose waistbands, ahhh....

LST that's great news on your scan/excitement escalation!

YTD thanks for wonderful mental image, choked on my tea a bit.

confused any new on S?

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 20:12

Yes - and thank you for asking.

Bit of an odd update but his bowels have moved (apparently this is good news.) This hadn't happened for close to a week so was quite a cause for concern. Slightly less positive is that he has to have yet more fluid drained from his middle, it was less than a week ago that he last had it done, and there are no findings as yet from the endoscapy.

Ah yes, and he was left alone for 40 mins and managed to spend almost £1000 on an iPad and kit....

Ummm YTD... Maternity clothes sounds great!!

I cant wait to wear them to be honest so I can have a reason to wear leggins, long tops and flat shoes... Now theres a reason for a baby on the way x

Any more dithers lurking or not nearer a decision?

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 20:24

Nope.

No decisions in this camp.

Am looking at comfy materntiy jeans on Ebay though

Trousers with adjustable sides should be available for all, not just pregnant types. I end the day with a tummy bloated to, well, at least five months gone, maybe I'll just buy some anyway.

I'm thinking of going on a health kick. I put on six pounds after coming off the pill (WTF?) of which Ive lost two, but I'd like to lose the rest and get fitter. I am mulling over how to proceed with Operation Buff.

I'm so pleased for LST, a heartbeat and everything. I was holding my breath as I tried to get to the post to see what had happened.

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/06/2010 21:08

Big comfy jeans, voluminous tops and a cast iron excuse to be fat are amongst few perks of pregnancy.

And whilst its not reason enough of itself to have a baby, guilt free plumpness was a factor in the 'for' column when I was dithering.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 21:13

Sounds wonderful. I wear loose stuff most of the time but I still hold my midriff in - the prospect of not needing to sounds great!

I get a very bloated tummy too. I gave up bread for about ten days and it made a hell of a difference but I can't be arsed doing it again (I have to have a certain amount of carbohydrate with each meal due to blood sugar and not eating bread / wheat / bloaty stuff can create a bit of a faff)

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/06/2010 21:15

HP I do own a pair of trousers with adjutable sides that aren't actually maternity trousers. Very handy for end of the day cake retention.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 21:15

Am now desperate to hear EVERYTHING about LST's scan!

Shame she's preoccupied having lovely meals cooked rather than being glued to a laptop tell us lot the eeny weeny details. Tsk!

(I'd never be this pushy in RL...!)

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/06/2010 21:23

Not having to hold your tummy in is great. I think the tops that are cut for bumps are even more liberating than the elasticated trousers. My bump has a lot of padding around it that was already there, and there are times in the past when I've looked just as pregnant as a do now, through cake and bloating, but the main difference now is that I can let it all stick out without having to worry.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 21:27

Now that YTD sounds terrific!

I could pass for a few months gone rather easily. Hence, I love the maxi-dress...

OP posts:
HoneyPetal · 08/06/2010 21:36

I almost tried a maxidress on on Saturday, but chickened out. It was lovely. I hate shopping-regret. It's almost as bad as buyers remorse.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 21:41

I love the maxi dress, and the empire line, and the smock top. I could go on...

Got an amazing maxi-dress from Ebay for a friends wedding. Silk layers, lowish back. Should have been £325 but paid about £30.

It was by these guys but they don't have anything similar in at the moment

OP posts:
HoneyPetal · 08/06/2010 21:53

If I wear anything even slightly empire/loose/smock I get the eye-flick, where people just for a second check me out for a bump.

Those dresses are gorgeous. I love the sleeved blue one on the front page. You are very eBay savvy. I have never bought anything from it. I would love to get into 1950s vintage but don't know where to start.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 22:00

What kind of shape are you? I am very much apple shaped, but am guessing you are more along the lines of slim pear...?

You can wear empireline with a thicker band around the middle and not look remotely maternitylike.

OP posts:
YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/06/2010 22:03

With Ebay you have to know what brands suit and fit you and stick to them. I've had a few bargains, but also ended up with stuff that doesn't fit properly, cos I can get a bit bid happy. I've got most of my maternity wardrobe from Ebay so far. Best buy has to be my Mammas and Papas jeans (which adjust to fit throughout pregnancy!) for 99p. I do love a bargain.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 22:03

We used to use this designer all the time when doing wedding shoots. Is this what you mean by 50's or do you mean the more fitted shapes? If so, have a look at these

You can get loads of cheap Vivien Of Holloway on Ebay too

OP posts:
confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 22:05

I second what YTD said about brands and styles that fit and then go for them. There are SO many womens clothes on their that bargains can be had pretty easily

OP posts:
HoneyPetal · 08/06/2010 22:07

Spot on - I tend towards pear, more so since I put on a bit of weight, but I'm around a small 10. I like long tops because they make my legs look longer! Sadly, having a small frame makes the pot belly stand out even more!!

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 22:10

'small ten'

Right then lovely, I think you check out some of the more fitted 50's styles as you are lucky enough to get away with them (I would look awful) The more fitted bodies with full skirts are flattering for everyone (see the Candy Anthony website, the album especially) too.

Will scout ebay for you...

Love. It. All.

confuseddoiordonti · 08/06/2010 22:17

Here

Wear with a wide belt. Might be too big but be aware 'vintage' often comes up small. Quirky print too.

Needs to be worn with quirky accessories but could look fab (rather than frumpy!)

OP posts:
Quodlibet · 08/06/2010 22:18

NewMrsCharles I wear leggings, long tops and flat shoes nearly all the time anyway! Not sure what levels of sartorial laziness I will descend to should bumpage ever occur.

Oooh Confused any idea where I could get a nice (cheap) 40s/50s style cardigan (or shrug?) to wear to a themed wedding? I've got a lovely pale lemon original 50s swing dress, am thinking I need maybe little cream cardi with pearly buttons? Also need to find some nice grass-proof shoes!
