Missyraines · 29/07/2010 08:31

Really sorry [Keziah} - I didn't see they were updated today already.

Must of been that extra glass of wine I knew I shouldn't of had last night! D'oh.

Starlet22 · 29/07/2010 09:08

Morning all,

Where to start?! Firstly, Harry so sorry to hear about the problems you've been having. As Keziah says, hopefully this means that it doesn't affect the fertility with your other side. Let us know how you get on.

Keziah, Boba, Lychees - thanks both for all the information. We need to pick up a form from our GP's tonight and then apparently we go online to make our own appointment (bit weird, but at least we'll know how long a wait we're looking at). Depending on how far away that is, we'll go back to the GP and get DH to do another SA and I'll ask to see about other tests for me(although, Boba, the news re normal SA results is very interesting - I told my DH it only takes one so I think he's not too concerned).

Boba - it sounds like your appointment went well. Can understand your frustrataion re the time until your next appointment but on the positive side of things you are now "in the system" and as you say, they will be monitoring hormonal changes and you are booked in for HSG and ultrasound. I have read (in that book I was mentioning!) that doctors are usually (or should be) reluctant in prescribing clomid until they are absolutely sure it is necessary (although this seems to vary from one practice to another). I think this is because it can sometimes be counterproductive depending on what other factors are contributing to difficulties conceiving. So at least your doctor, while delaying the clomid prescription for a while, has your best interests at heart.

Keziah - good luck today and have a fab holiday!!

Choccie - re CBFM - my monitor asks me to POAS from day 6. Last month I had a high on day 7 which was early, even for me (I usually peak on day 11/12). Perhaps your cycle is going to be a bit shorter this month or else you will get a number of highs before your peak.

Storm - will email this weekend (hopefully have done enough preventative measures to combat the problems with my hotmail account!!).

Lychees and everyone - good luck this month TTC!

Starlet22 · 29/07/2010 09:09

Missey - do tell us how Toy Story 3 is in 3D. DH and I are thinking of going (minus any kids) - how sad......!

boba82 · 29/07/2010 11:59

Thanks keziah that's re-assuring to hear your opinion as you're bit further down the clinic road than me. Have a great holiday - you off somewhere nice?

starlet not sad at all DH & I want to see it too so let us know missy!

Feeling a bit better today just want AF to bloody arrive!

Havin a long weekend so looking forward to relaxing, had a v. stressful week at work which probably contributed to the upset yesterday.

anyone up to anything nice?

Keziahhopes · 29/07/2010 12:43

Hi - well am very very low.

Saw the actual consultant for whole appointment, our 3rd appointment. HSG and scan all ok.Have a cyst and fibroid but he said small and no problem. BUT - he said "keep trying and come back in 6 MONTHS!!" - this is despite my husband having poor morphology with his sperm, me not ovulating!! And a year since we were referred to him by next Jan (date we got) and arrghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know someone whose progesterone is slightly higher than mine, whose dh has great SA results and she under same consultant, referred after us, has got clomid and then will have IUI and then presumably onto IVF, under same dr, same hospital. And I am 35 in August. Why don't I deserve equal treatment!!

So we will enjoy our self-catering hol in South West for one week, then look at finances, work out a budget and see what we can afford privately as I can't wait until I am nearly 36 before have treatment and I have been married 11 years and ttc#1 for 6 years now. Problem is we can't afford many attempts, one realistically, have the usual huge mortgage and old cars needed to get us to work. And no fairy godmothers!! Hearing people who get bfp on 5th attempt of IVF is a scary thought - when do you give up? Is it right to go private now and miss any nhs funding - only one attempt nhs funded here - or shall we keep waiting and pray for a miracle.

Sorry - selfish post. Am so fed up of beign physically ill (septecemia, pleurisy, pneumonia, infections galore - alll in last year, and no knowledge of if I can keep healthy) that this is such a hard time.

Jenni4 · 29/07/2010 12:52

Hi Keziah... I know I'm new here and don't know most of you yet, but I just wanted to let you know that your post is not selfish, what you're going through really stinks! just wanted to let you know that I'm sending you my good thoughts and energy...

Lychees · 29/07/2010 13:30

Keziah, I'm so sorry that you are in for a further long wait. It's the last thing you need after all your recent health worries, too. Just go and have your holiday [try not to worry about it on your week away; I know its harder said than done] and look at your options when you're back home.

I don't want to knock the NHS as they do a stellar job given the poor funding and number of people they have to treat but they seem to be so inconsistent when it comes to applying policies. Why does this other lady get treatment and you don't? Grrr ... makes me mad.

Boba, we must have posted at the same time last night. It does sound like you had a positive appointment and its good that the ball is rolling. You thought you were in for a longer wait for your first referral but then you got that cancellation so you may not have to wait until Jan after all. Let's hope lightening does strike twice.

No news from me. Still waiting for my peaks then back off to see my GP if I don't get my BFP this month.

This weekend, we are doing more DIY and shopping for a microwave [what fun !].

boba82 · 29/07/2010 13:51

Keziah that's shocking treatment hun. You've been TTC for 6 years so why do they think 6 more months is going to change anything? I would ask for a second opinion at hospital. Everyone is entitled to that surely? I hope you still manage to have a good holiday and try to relax, I know that it'll be hard though. Thinking of you . . x

OP posts:
Starlet22 · 29/07/2010 14:18

Hi Keziah, sorry you are feeling so low. Did the consultant why you needed to wait 6 months and why someone else you know, who as far as you can tell is in a similar position, gets different treatment? If he didn't explain, can you call up and ask or as Boba says, can you see someone else for a second opinion? Good news that your HSG and scan results were okay though. Also, presumably if you go private for treatment (e.g. IVF) you don't forfeit your chance to go on the NHS? Might be worth looking into for your PCT. Hope you manage to de-stress a bit on holiday and have a good time with DH. X

Missyraines · 30/07/2010 08:53

That's rubbish Keziah I thought you'd have been given priority. I'm with starlet get a second opinion or at least demand to know why they have come up with that decision. Maybe they have a budget each month or quarter and have gone over theres this quoter so you've been pushed down the list. That sucks.

Toy story 3 in 3D was amazing but it's not essential you see it in 3D. It's a great story and made me cry a little. Even DH was close to shedding a tear. Said he was imagining our kids playing with their toys. How sweet!

We're going away this weekend to spend some time by the sea.

rosieposey · 30/07/2010 11:28

Keziah, thats awful Can you complain to anyone and explain what you did on here about the inconsistencies with regards to the other lady? 6 years means something more tangible should be done and action is needed - i hope you get it soon.

Still no AF here - i oved (according to opk) 13/14 days ago and FR hpt this morning was still a bfn so im giving up for this cycle - there would be some sort of line by now as hcg would have been increased enough to show on a sensitive test like FR. Never mind - all set and poised to use my CBFM and temping (athough i still dont know much about it - seems a bit complicated).

Right well not much in the way of exciting things that i can post on here till AF comes - i remember about 4.5 years ago when i was a stressed out single mum and i was just coming up to exams in my second year at uni, i missed a period for about 3 months or more but that was the only time i have been like that, its weird how long this cycle is turning out to be - AF is threatening as im getting the odd cramps but still nothing - i should just chill out i suppose and stop worrying (seems to be the golden rule for TTC) but thats easier said than done.

Jenni4 · 30/07/2010 12:13

Hi RoseyPosey... You never know, there's always a chance until AF arrives!!

As for me, DH is coming home in 3 days, on day 10 now and still no highs. I think that's weird for a 26 day cycle. Maybe not, I don't know. I'm just hoping to get at least a high while he's home...at least I'll still have a chance that way. FX'd.

rosieposey · 30/07/2010 15:13

I dunno Jenni, it stands to reason that you would get a positive two weeks after ov if you had conceived - its plenty of time for the conception, implantation and the hcg to multiply enough to show in your system. Its just a weird cycle thats all... bloody AF pain all this afternoon but still no sign of her.

Maybe this month like some of the ladies further up the thread you will not get a high but just a peak ... keep an eye out for it! (Your DH will get a shock ) FX'ed for you too

chocciechip · 30/07/2010 15:21

keziah I hope you have a good holiday and have time to think things through.

I think what has happened to you is completely unacceptable. I saw someone on another thread suggested you contact PALS - here's a link to find your nearest office. I think it would be a good idea to start taking this further.

If I were in your shoes I would also write a letter to my GP, explaining what has happened with a bullet list of all your experiences (tests plus waiting times etc). And tell him/her you have been forced to resort to contacting PALS and asking them to help you.

In my letter to my GP, I would include the NHS definitions on 'infertility': "A couple will only be diagnosed as being infertile if they have not managed to have a baby after two years of trying" - you've been trying for SIX!

I would also include the NHS guidance on couples seeking IVF (I know you are not there yet, but it makes the point of how neglected you've been by the NHS because for this you only have to be trying for three years).

I think you have real and strong grounds for serious complaint. Not nice to do, but you shouldn't have to fork out huge amounts of money if you are entitled to this care on the NHS. Hopefully your GP will do something to help as well.

My heart goes out to you Keziah. I am actually really angry on your behalf. It's just not right.

rosieposey · 30/07/2010 15:30

Good post Choccie - i was thinking about PALS too but wasnt sure if that was their area or not (as never had to use them before)thats really good advice though.

Jenni4 · 31/07/2010 09:16

Hello Ladies! Well good news and bad news... good news went straight from low to peak... Bad news DH is still out of town and not due back for 2 days. I think we're out for the month.. I never get any signs of O, does anyone know about how much time you have after you see your peak? Just wondering...

rosieposey · 31/07/2010 18:52

I also have some advice to ask for, I got AF an hour ago but i dont know when to start using the monitor. I am going to set the test window between 6 and 12 and the book says that if you come on after your test window you have to wait until the following day to set it as day one.

So given that this is the first time i am using it i should wait till tomorrow morning to swtich it on for the sfirst time and set the M button right? (Even though today is in reality when i came on) - hope this is right, any advice gratefully received

Hooray though At least AF is here now!

Choccie, you always give good advice.

Jenni4, I don't get any signs of ov either. I believe you can ov anywhere from 24-36 hours after your first peak and the CBFM will always give you a high after the two peaks because there is still a chance on conceiving.

Rosie, yes, to get a window of 6am to 12pm, you want to press the "m" button until 1 shows at about 9am tomorrow morning.

Hi everybody.

I got my first high today so this month I have had a warning of imminent peak.

Hi everyone,

Keziah I can honestly feel your frustration. I totally agree with the comments from everyone else. It seems wholly unacceptable and if I were in your shoes, I'd be looking for a second opinion - what have you got to lose? Sending hugs your way x

Boba so sorry that you've got another wait ahead of you but on the positive side, at least the ball is rolling

Rosieposy sounds like you have a positive mental attitude going there! Good luck with the CBFM.

Jenni fingers crossed that your timings work out perfectly

Well I have some news - I GOT MY BFP TODAY!!!!!

7 days before my period too! I'm excited and scared. So worried that I'll have another ectopic so needless to say I'll be booking in an early scan tomorrow.
