Hello ladies, after a mammoth 47 day cycle hoping for a December baby, today is once again CD1 for me.

If all goes to plan this month my EDD would be Jan 30th so I thought I'd start the February bus as a positive step forward.

Am fully expecting to be on my own for a while but do come and sit beside me for the journey if you feel the need......

Evening decafgirl, Metformin is a drug that's meant to control insulin levels in diabetics, but it is also prescribed (although is not licensed for this use) to women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, as it can help with some of the symptoms, and particularly if you are ttc. I've started taking it now I'm ttc mostly to regulate my cycle and kick-start regular ovulation. After 10 weeks and no visit from AF and being very broody I went to my docs and got it.

It can also help you lose weight and reduce recurrent miscarriages in PCOS sufferers. Wonderdrug? Mmmmmm, not so sure, lots of women get, ummmmm, how do I put this nicely, rather upset tummies, and even worse, lots of women can't drink on it .

I've had some of the symptoms quite mildly, but luckily, my red wine habit has survived intact so far, although I'm meant to be doubling my dose next week so we'll wait and see.

Bellared · 28/04/2010 21:31

Can I join too please? We've been trying since December and I had an early MC last month and we are trying again straight away.

I'm not sure of all the abbreviations too but I think I know what these ar

ttc#2 cycle 0 (mc last month and AF due Sunday ish) UCL 28-31 CD 24.

I could do with reducing my BMI too, I think its about 27 and I bought a Wii fit over the weekend so I'm going to start using that over the weekend when DS is asleep.

P.S. When do they start to prescribe Clomid? Is it after about 6 months of trying?

8rubberduckies · 28/04/2010 21:45

Bellared Hi, I've been told to go back to GP after 6 months if I want to try Clomid, so yes. My mate in work whose dp is trying to conceive got told they should only go back for Clomid after a year of ttc though, so maybe it differs depending on your doctor?

specialsmasher · 29/04/2010 08:28

Hello all. Boring this, isn't it? AF gone and now there's a bit of hanging around! Seems to be the story of TTC. AF, hang around, bit of action, hang around...repeat if necessary!

PandaSam · 29/04/2010 09:01

Hi all, just joining from the Jan bus. Have updated the stats from yesterday (but unfortunately specialsmasher that now puts you a day behind cluckykate!) Have also added bellared

GinaFB it must be so hard for you both, be kind to yourselves. We managed to conceive our DD first time round, so I'm a bit new to all the lingo too!

8rubberduckies I know what you mean about tests, I have stopped buying them as any tiny symptom will have me POS!! I have stopped telling my dh as he is not impressed with my obsessiveness!

And I totally agree with rockbird this stage of TTC is very dull!!

oiseau · 29/04/2010 17:20

Can I join please - we've decided to take the plunge for number 3. First 2 DCs conceived first cycle and now on cycle 3 for this one, which has surprised me and made me realise how smug I was with the first two

so stats are:
oiseau ttc #3 cycle 3 UCL 29 CD2

Bellared · 29/04/2010 20:43

Thanks 8 and PS

I'm not wasting money on CB with conception indicator tests this time round either, I've a box of cheap Home & Bargain ones and they'll do me just fine. I think its the obsessive in me who then tests every few days just to make sure I'm still PG.

This bus is filling up great atm! At work there seems to be a pregnancy spate so hopefully I'll be the next one.

It's so exciting though

8rubberduckies · 29/04/2010 20:55

Evening all! Okay, a question for all of you POAS addicts; the cheap internet pregnancy tests you can buy on the internet, do they work as well? I read that they need a higher level of HCG to work?

specialsmasher · 29/04/2010 20:58

I would like to know what they internet cheapies are too and where you get them...

slightly different question, I know...

I just like that face!

8rubberduckies · 29/04/2010 21:01

me too!

specialsmasher · 29/04/2010 21:16

It is good...

Bellared · 29/04/2010 21:45

looks like poo face a bit but is still my fave.

I've read on a couple of other threads about the internet cheapies that they were bought on Ebay and that some of them seem to show stronger + lines than the more expensive branded ones.

The ones I got were 89p + 99p from H&Bagain and each pack had about 2-4 in which is a total bargain!

Has anyone made any drastic lifestyle changes to increase fertility?

rosieposey · 29/04/2010 21:46

Actually you sometimes find that you actually need less hcg in some cases of internet cheapies. You can get 10miu strips which are super sensitive, although you should be careful as sometimes you can get flooding on these leading to false postives, but i got a line at 8dpo (and i knew when i ovulated) the cycle before last (unfortunately it turned out to be a chemical pg and they turned negative after a few days and i got AF three days late). I personally use the 20miu sticks, these are great and only the same as what you would buy from a supermarket, they work pretty early too (depending on when you ovulate). I get mine off ebay, just type in 'midstream pregnancy tests' and there are loads of different sellers all selling the 20miu sticks (with plastic around) or the 10miu strips which are much cheaper.

I take Metformin and can vouch for the dodgy tummy. I found out i was a type2 diabetic in my last pg and have been taking them for the last 15 months since DS was born. They STILL give me a rubbish stomach and if i want a drink i just miss that evening dose.

8rubberduckies · 29/04/2010 22:05

rosieposey thanks that's all really useful, I will try out the internet cheapies, as think I could be in for the long haul and will be POASing on a regular basis if I have another cycle as long as my last one!!!

I am going up to 2 tablets next week with Metformin, making the most of being able to eat and drink like a normal human being in the evenings instead of on a supermodel-type regime like I am all day...

rosieposey · 30/04/2010 07:36

8rubberduckies Im on one in the morning and two in the evening and last night i had chinese, bad idea! I was up at 12 and 3 with the worst stomach. I think it affects people differently though - i have had ibs since i was 22 and have a dodgy tummy at the best of times. I know alot of people who take it and have no problems at all so dont worry, its supposed to be a very good pill for all sorts of things

greenhaze · 30/04/2010 07:42

would like to ride along side the bus on a big trolley thing like Speed, but would probably just get dizzy

oh you guys, a few quick post's and it's clear that I don't know what I'm doing.
Is it worth going with the OPK's? (Am I ovulating at different times during my cycle or is it steady? I worry it would freak me out more) Then there's the whole temperature lark.
How important is it to cut down on weight/ BMI?
(My massive muffin top and jellious thighs are going to stop me conceiving???)
What has cider vinegar got to do with anything?
What is SWI'ing? (misread it the first time round )

rosieposey · 30/04/2010 07:53

Hi greenhaze some people think opk's are useful in terms of telling them when to swi (shag with intent). When i started using them i thought i would get a positive opk around day 14 (meaning i would ovulate roughly the day after) but i didnt get one usually till day 16 which meant i ovulated roughly on day 17, now i know sometimes i would stop swi'ing by day 15 or 16 before i started using opk's so they were useful for me. I like them because its nice to see when i am about to ovulate thereby concentrating swi efforts but the main thing is you need to have been swi'ing BEFORE you get a postive on an opk and then on the two/three days afterwards.

With regards to BMI i think it helps with conception if you are an ideal BMI and most healthcare professionals will say this is the case. However there are plenty of people on here and that i know in RL who are big and have no problems conceiving. I myself have a high BMI of 40 and have become pg 3 times in 2.5 years (and im 38) so i think it depends on the individual. I wouldnt recommend getting pg when you are overweight as its not supposed to be advisable but it doesnt mean that you cant iyswim.

Gawd knows about cider vinegar (someone else will explain that!)

greenhaze · 30/04/2010 08:36

Thanks Rosie that's a lot clearer! Think I might try to use the OPK's after all then.

8rubberduckies · 30/04/2010 10:02

rosieposey thankyou you are a fount of knowledge... I'm going to start temping this cycle, as am fed up of not having a clue when/if I'm ovulating. I know it's not meant to be that reliable if you have PCOS, but it's got to be better than nothing.

Ask womanlytales about the cider vinegar. As a secondary use though, I've heard that if you bury a bottle of it, (mixed with a good olive oil and a pinch of pixie dust) by the light of a full moon, you are guaranteed a baby every 9 months FOR THE REST OF YOUR NATURAL LIFE.

womanlytales · 30/04/2010 10:33

I read somewhere that apple cider vinegar is like the best thing for PCOS women. So 1 - 2 tsp with salad or a glass of water and 2-3 times a day. I've been drinking it and have no side effects. If anything I think it does help me not feel as hungry -- though I think that's more a result of focusing on a low gl diet. DH thinks it is working so insists I have it at least once a day.
Not sure if this helps.

GinaFB · 30/04/2010 16:52

Hello ladies, can I ask for some advice? I am CD19 on a UCL 28/29 and have strong stomach cramping. Its unusual for me to get cramping this bad even when AF has arrived let alone early, any suggestions?

oiseau · 30/04/2010 18:35

Do you know what day you ovulated - it could be implantation cramping maybe? I read on fertlity friend that mid month cramping could be a sign of implantation? hope you are feeling OK.
