Hello all...

My partner and I are trying for a baby and in our first month of trying. AF is due on Sat, fingers crossed i don't get to see it.

But i cant help but think this is going to be a difficult ride....I have never thought the prospect of having children ever be a difficult one but now i have started trying, I am now wondering if i am going to find it hard to conceive.

Am i the only one who thinks this? Or am i not the only paranoid being on Mumsnet??

It is easy to think there is something wrong i am in my first cyclea dn have pretty much convinced myself i am infertile. especially as me and the OH were at it like rabbits ....grrrrr!!

I'm sure you'll be fine and it's just a case of keeping at it and enjoying lots of sex

DH is seriously swotting up on the whole thing and is constantly eating brazil nuts, which are meant to help

Hope the docs goes well.

When you first TTC, every cycle is a massive deal and you are desperate for it to work - but the chances are it may well take a bit longer, and what happens IME is that you just get used to the pattern of trying, waiting, hoping, then back to square 1. It can be horribly disappointing (and grim when other people get pg) but if it's a few months and nothing's happened, don't worry, that's normal. Took us 8 months the first time.

It is probably better if you don't stress about it too much (easier said than done I know) and I also found it helped if I felt I was making a good effort to be healthy (drinking less alcohol and coffee, taking folic acid, sleeping well etc) - as I didn't feel powerless but felt I was doing something to help IYSWIM.

Good luck!

CCBloom · 03/03/2010 12:33

MarineIguana I agree with you. I feel better that I'm taking steps in the right direction and more in control now that I am starting to make subtle changes to my diet and take folic acid daily.

I'm not in ttc mode at the moment because my doctor recommended checking my rubella vaccine was still in my system before starting to ttc. Had blood tests last week and should get the results tomorrow. If I need a booster of the vaccine we can't ttc for 1 month while it's taking effect - which seems like a lifetime to me!

PinkiePoo your temperature is lower when you are on your period and up to the point when you ovulate. Your temperature then spikes updwards and you see a noticeable change. If you plot this on a graph you can start to work out when the 2-3 days before your temperature increase are and these are your most fertile days. If you have an irregular cycle this might help you feel a bit more in control. There is lots on the internet about this but if you have questions I can try to help.

MarineIguana · 03/03/2010 12:48

Ooh CC, you know what - I had the exact same situation with the Rubella vaccine check, and we had to hold off TTC for a month. The following month - BFP! I think having to leave it for a bit really took the pressure off and we just had a break from thinking about it, and were more relaxed.

Fingers crossed!

CCBloom · 03/03/2010 13:03

Thanks MarineIguana your message has brought a smile to my face. You're the only person I have come across who has had the vaccine tested too and lovely to hear that you got a BFP straight after. Maybe it will be a blessing if we have to wait a month and it puts us in a better state of mind!

PinkiePoo · 03/03/2010 13:09

I am hoping we will all be fine. I have just bought a Clearblue Ovulation test, I am borderline becoming obsessed now!!

What bothers me, is that when I was 21 i fell pregnant from missing about 3 pills, and due to age and circumstance and aborted.

This is now haunting me, because when i actually would like it to happen it is not :-(

OP posts:
CCBloom · 03/03/2010 13:18

PinkiePoo it's all too easy to become obsessed so don't worry you're in good company!! Ironic isn't it that we spend so long trying to avoid getting pregnant and then when we decide we want to realise that we only have a very small window of opportunity every month. Anyway you could look at your past experience differently and think at least you know that you can get pregnant, that's what I try to tell myself about my MC whenever I start to worry.

PinkiePoo · 03/03/2010 13:31

Well i do start to think that, and i am sorry to hear about your MC, i was meant to say that earlier to you.

The only difference is, with the 'operation' they can cause damage and then a year after I had an op to test for Endometriosis, which I didnt have, and i do think maybe these factors are stopping it from happening.

hey ho.....like the OH said this morning, it will happen, naturally or not, and lets have some fun in practising!! So i suppose all is not that bad....yet!!

Can you tell I am a pessimist?!

OP posts:
CCBloom · 03/03/2010 13:45

PinkiePoo I hope I didn't come across as insensitive when I was talking about your situation, that was the optimist in me trying to reassure you. I can swing between being an optimist and a pessimist most days, in fact most hours of the day. Your OH sounds like he has the right idea and that he is very supportive so that must already give you a good starting point!

PinkiePoo · 03/03/2010 13:51

No not at all - hopefully one day, soon, we will look back at these messages and laugh.

Yeah he is fab, even says if worst came to the very worst, we would adopt, bless him!

Picklepants · 03/03/2010 21:46

PinkiePoo I'm also waiting to see if I need the rubella vaccine! Thanks MarineIguana, you put a smile on my face too!

I hope I don't need it though, as a month not TTC will test my self control - I'm ready to be pregnant right now, thankyouverymuch!

CCBloom · 03/03/2010 22:18

It's results day for me tomorrow Picklepants so I just want to find out one way or another. Have you had your bloodtest yet? When should you know whether you need the rubella? Hopefully we can prop each other up with some encouragement if we both find out we need to abstain for a month!

PinkiePoo · 04/03/2010 08:30

Good Luck CCBLOOM.....keep me informed.

i am off to docs, to get some answers about this stupid irregulur AFS!! Grrrrrrrr!!!

OP posts:
Picklepants · 04/03/2010 09:34

Oh bugger I got it wrong didn't I - it's not PinkiePoo getting rubella checked it's CCBloom Sorry, still getting to grips with the whole message board thingymajig! That's no excuse though - d'oh.

I had my blood test last week so should get my results either tomorrow or Monday. I'm pretty sure I've had the vaccine but was advised to have it checked, so I'm hoping I won't have to abstain. But if I do it would be good to have a buddy CC!

I hope you get some answers from the doc Pinkie!

CCBloom · 04/03/2010 11:03

Well the results are in and it seems the vaccine is still present in me so 'no further action required by patient' as the doctor's receptionist informed me this morning. Apparently my results came back the day after they tested so might be worth you calling your surgery to see if yours are back Picklepants. I feel relieved that this a good thing but now need to apply some light pressure on my OH about his smoking so we can get down to business!! No worries about the name mix-up, it's always a hazard on these boards when you're reading so many posts.

Hope your visit to the doctors goes well PinkiePoo

PinkiePoo · 04/03/2010 12:25

That is great news CCBloom......yes start getting that OH of yours to pull his finger out!
Good luck too Picklepants....hope you get the same great news.

Well visit to the doctors was very reassuring.I am unfortunate in the fact I am just one of those woman who have irregular periods, which means i sometimes don't ovulate....rubbish! :-(
She is also sending me to get my bloods done on day 2 of my cycle when it arrives, to test for a throid problem or PCOS. Fingers crossed, I am in the all clear!!

OP posts:
CCBloom · 04/03/2010 13:33

PinkiePoo it's good to hear that your doctor is taking action to help you rule things out. Did she give you any advice on how to monitor when you ovulate?

PinkiePoo · 05/03/2010 06:55

Thanks CCBloom. Yes she said where I have irregular AF's, I have to widen my DTD, ha ha which OH was over the moon about.
She also suggested to get an ovulation kit, so i did. A clearblue one....But i hope I wont be getting disheartned by finding out i'm not even ovulating!!

We will see. STILL waiting for AF!!! Grrrrr.

MrsWajs · 05/03/2010 08:02

Hey PinkiePoo I was just reading up some of the thread and to say I totally know where ure coming from! Although my periods are not really irregular they like to string it out a few days some cycles and spring it on me a week early in others!! But everything your feeling is completely normal!!
I had shocking mood swings coming off the pill, to the point of even questioning whether I wanted to be with OH or not - but it was all just hormones!! Went on for a rew months and has settled right down now (thank god)I am now also plagued with spots i never used to get and dry skin, greasy hair etc etc. It's amazing what the pill actually does to your body other than the obvious!!
Anyway I am cycle 8 now and still no BFP as yet but the trying is still fun, just have to go with the folew I guess!! Good luck to you

PinkiePoo · 05/03/2010 16:42

Ahh thank you MrsWajs. Unfortunately I am on month 7 of being pill free, although only cycle 1 of trying, but yes the periods seem to be getting worse. But never mind. I will keep staying positive!!

And good luck to you, hope it happens real soon for you. Let us all know, i love to have good news, plus keeps everyone else in great frame of mind :-)

OP posts:
Picklepants · 05/03/2010 16:59

Well I found out that I am indeed immune to rubella, so thankfully no enforced abstinence for me. Hurrah!

Planning to ambush DH tonight now

Happy shagging this weekend everyone

CCBloom · 05/03/2010 17:05

I'm so pleased for you Picklepants have a great weekend!

Unfortunately my OH is digging his heels in about the smoking issue and is still intent on waiting until June as he thinks it will take him that long to break the addicion. Grrrrrrrrr it's so frustrating, I just want to get started! Got through one set of traffic lights and now I'm stuck at another red light.

PinkiePoo · 05/03/2010 17:11

PicklePants that is great news and happy Ambushing night!!

CCBloom can you not talk to OH - why June? have you told how you really feel about it? Hope you get to start planning soon honey.
