Shiney new thread before we drop off the end of the last one!

My DH had strict instructions to stay near my head!!! As it happened he couldn't come with me when I went into theatre as they had no scrubs big enough for him My mum came in with me, which was weird coz I had been adament I didn't want her in with me when I gave birth & she had always left the room when I was beinge examined. But I just didn't want to be on my own IYSWIM, and she was lovely...and stayed by my head! But a camera crew would be awful don't even understand people who video it, I wouldn't want to show it to anyone!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 21/07/2010 13:25

My DH was planning to stay by my head the whole time too, then the midwife somehow managed to have him holding one of my feet most of the time! It was probably just as well because I think after hearing 'Just one more push' for about the umpteenth time I was fair ready to punch someone!

Wouldn't be doing it with a camera of any description in the room though. I don't get taking pic for the album, let alone for the whole world to see!

bebejones · 21/07/2010 13:32

Glad it's not just me that doesn't get the whole picture taking/filming thing! I wouldn't show anyone & would never want my child to see it either!!

Feeling really run down at the moment, had a sore throat for nearly 3 weeks & now started getting mouth ulcers as well. Just don't get it, I take multivits and iron & other stuff every day & have a healthy diet (most of the time). DH reckons it's MS related think I'm just gonna have to ring the doctors! More prodding & poking!

Managed to talk DH into taking zinc tablets, conned him by saying that they would help him feel less tired...well they might?! Just need to get some now & force feed gently remind him to take them!

OP posts:
PigletJustUs · 21/07/2010 13:58

I know what you mean about the filming thing. My job means that I'm one of the (I would imagine, many) people OBEM and similar approach asking about case studies - most people I talk to seem to agree with us! I don't even really want my DH there, though would feel a bit mean completely banning him if he really wants to see it.

I've nagged talked him into going for a fertility test tomorrow, which is a big step forward after months of putting it off. Probably seems weird when we're not even TTC yet, but he has a varicocele so I want to be prepared if we're likely to have trouble.

Sorry to hear you're poorly bebe - are you able to take it a bit easy the next few days? Obviously not easy with a LO.

JustShaggingForNow · 21/07/2010 14:22

Really sorry to hear you're feeling so crap bebe. I am pretty sure that Zinc helps with being run down so your DH will never know the real reason you're force feeding encouraging him to take it. I played the same trick did the same with mine and he now takes it religiously!!!

I just popped into Holland & Barrett on my lunchbreak to get something to help my IBS and ended up buying some folic acid too...... so much for not thinking about pregnancy! I bought a bottle of 250 pills and was wondering how long they'd last me so checked up and it's only 230 days until we are planning to TTC!! That made me smile! So by the time I have finished the bottle of pills I should be SWI. Judging by what everyone in here has said, some of you may even be pregnant by then (and I'll be here drinking virtual cocktails by myself!!!)

nannyl · 21/07/2010 16:33

hope you feel better soon bebe.

i have also got my folic acid though OH has said i really dont need them yet so to keep they peace we have compromised and i will start them on aug 1st!!!

they are just sitting by my bed for now!!!

bebejones · 21/07/2010 17:30

I'm going to start taking extra folic acid alongside my other vitamins in august too. Then when I stop my meds at the end of sept I shall switch to pre natal vits so that I'm not taking vit A. I shall also be switching DH to pre baby 'daddy' vitamins at this point too...he just doesn't know it yet!

Like you nannyl I have the folic acid sat here waiting! Not long now!

OP posts:
NoMoreChocBiscuits · 21/07/2010 18:17

Ohh! Sounds promising having the folic acid already by the bed, Nanny and BBJ. When you start you should come and play over here!!

PigletJustUs · 21/07/2010 19:06

Have to admit, I'm a little bit about the folic acid excitement!

JustShaggingForNow · 22/07/2010 09:34

Hi Piglet

Don't be too about the folic acid. We're not plannign on starting until March 2011 but that's only 230 days away!! From what I remember you were talking about Christmas which is really not that far away, the shops are already bringing out all their festive stock and so you'll be there before you know it!!!

I've started early but as there is a chance that Persona might not work (Gosh wouldn't that be devastating!!! ) then I figured that it might be sensible to take it so that if an accident does happen there will be less chance of something being wrong with the baby.

So pleased it's Thursday today.... hurrah!! Have barely seen DH all week as he's been putting in ridiculously long house in the office and is off to our main home tonight as he has a golf day tomorrow. Looking forward to finally having supper together on Saturday night!!!

nannyl · 22/07/2010 09:48

piglet

thats why im starting early too.... just in case i got pg by mistake... not that many days left on my last batch of last ever pills.

there is half the amount of folic acid in my normal vitamin anyway but as of next sunday will be topping it up!

bebejones · 22/07/2010 11:01

I checked the levels in my multi vit & it's half the amount too. In America they apparently recommend 600ug for PG women anyway so will be at that level when I top it up. Don't think it is possible to overdose on folic acid though!

Piglet I am not planning on TTC til Dec either, just know I have a tendency towards fa deficency so being cautious!

Been to GP this morning and he has given me some anti-inflammatory mouthwash for my sore throat. Hoping it helps, it's really swollen & feels quite raw

Bumped into my MW from when I had DD while I was there, she is so lovely, and couldn't believe how big DD was getting. Hope she is still attached to our GPs when I'm PG again, would be nice to have the same MW.

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 22/07/2010 17:05

Piglet I'm planning to TTC from December at the earliest and I've been taking folic acid since January. It can't hurt!

JustShaggingForNow · 23/07/2010 09:48

Nope - am sure it can't harm us at all!! Are there any benefits for adults from taking it??

JustShaggingForNow · 23/07/2010 09:51

the benefits of folic acid for women
It looks like there are some pretty good medical benefits of Folic Acid including reducing Blood Pressure, decreasing the chances of anaemia and also possibly helping prevent the cell changes that can cause cancer....... why does nobody tell us this??

bebejones · 23/07/2010 10:14

I knew about the anaemia thing, but not blood pressure (mine is always high) and didn't know the cancer one either! Maybe I should start taking it now! Definately can't hurt

Having a really crap week. DH's accountants have majorly cocked up & now the inland revenue are chasing him for a tax bill which we are almost certain is completely wrong! It's a nightmare. Plus he has accidentally paid his credit card twice which has left us completely out of pocket & he doesn't have the card anymore so we can't just take the money back! All this before our big talk about future plans it's just yet another spanner in the works

mermummy · 23/07/2010 14:21

Hi is it ok to join so late on in the thread?

Will forge on: to TTC or not TTC is the all consuming question in my life at the mo.

Sense and finances dictate waiting till Jan, hormones dictate NOW, NOW, NOW. (That loudly and insistently as well).

DH bored of subject and all i can seem to talk about. God help me (and those poor unfortunate buggers around me) when we are TTC. Will be for DC2. Got pg with DD1 by accident and she is coming up to a year now.

Reading through this thread has already made me feel so much better.

Poor you Bebe, this happened to my BIL, it was a complete nightmare.

nannyl · 23/07/2010 14:31

welcome to our thread

i too am waiting til January after Xmas to TTC #1!

am VERY excited already lol

bebejones · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the thread mermummy! I want a DC2 as well! Hoping desperately that we will be TTC at Xmas!

I have taken to not even talking to DH about TTC, I'm thinking the more laid back I play things the more likely he will be to agree to it! Will be doing the whole 'If we TTC in December the earliest we will actually have a baby isn't til September' thus making it sound a long way off IYSWIM? Hoping it works! After the events of this week I'm not so sure, and we started off so well. It SUCKS!!

OP posts:
minipie · 23/07/2010 14:51

Afternoon ladies

I wondered if I might join as well? I was briefly on the Ditherers thread but hope think I'm now firmly in the Waiting Room.

I have finally got DH to agree to TTC next year... though exactly when next year has not yet been agreed. I say May , he says September at the earliest .

Can anyone tell me if there is anything I should be doing health wise at this early stage to help ensure speedy conception and healthy baby? I'm a healthy weight and don't smoke. Been on the Pill for years though. Any advice welcome.

Oh, and is there anyone here who will be waiting longer than me to TTC?

JustShaggingForNow · 23/07/2010 15:02

Marvelous - it looks like I won't be alonew in here next year after all. Welcome Minipie and Mermummy

minipie · 23/07/2010 15:11

Thank you kindly Just, I will certainly be keeping you company till next year - what is your TTC start date?

Amanda I just read this post of yours:

"The thing is, this whole having a child business is so fraught with risk and involves so much pain and fear and changes your life so completely and not, from the point of view of an objective, reasonably self-interested person, necessarily for the better, that it takes the hormonal equivalent of being hit by a truck to make women want to do it.

Not having been hit by the hormone truck, our DH are more cautious about the whole thing."

I couldn't agree more. Indeed I very much sympathise with DH's fear, as I am still rather puzzled myself as to why on earth I would want to have a child ... but oh, I do. I'm having to accept I am not the 100% rational logical being that I liked to think I was. Hormones are definitely winning!

JustShaggingForNow · 23/07/2010 15:35

I'm hoping to be March 2011 but still hold out a little hope that I will be able to persuade DH to start a little earlier [wink[

minipie · 23/07/2010 15:54

dammit, earlier than me then!

good luck with your arm twisting persuasion of DH.

mermummy what's your situation? why would it be more sensible to wait till January?

JustShaggingForNow · 23/07/2010 15:58

Well you never know! Whilst I would hate to delay TTC, I'm also not that keen on:

a)being heavily pregnant in the summer
b)having to try and hide the fact I'm pregnant during the frist 12 weeks during wedding season
c)having a December baby

I may well be waiting until June, or not trying in March but also not taking precautions to avoid getting pregnant.
Who knows, whatever happens, I'm sure I'll be in here (or the equivalent TTC verson of this thread) throughout the process!!!
