Actually now I feel guilty using up the last post of the thread - hope this will do as a continuation

OP posts:

Hi everyone,
Spiral that sounds horrible - the bleeding nose. Poor you. I've been doing tea tree steam baths (aaaoooorgghgh) They are brutal!!!
Do seem to help though.
Is it the 10th of December the hycosy? That seems to stick in my head.

Kiwi hmmm funny night on XF. I'm not digging the song choices for this series, think they are playing it safe too often. Crying is a nice song though.
I think little Joh is a good singer, apart from the warbling noise he insists on adding to everything.
Not keen on Danyl, he just seems to shout all the time.
I like Lloyd as well, I think he has a really unusual voice and sounds very contemporary.
I liked Miss Frank so I'm in a grumpy mood anyway.

Gum people do get pg all the time when breastfeeding. Can you check your prolactin levels to see if they are too high?

Got my consultation tomorrow 2:15 for the frozen embies. Ooer!

rowingboat · 09/11/2009 22:06

Hi everyone,
I'm baaack! Met one of the doctors I had when I started the IVF, I can't remember if I mentioned her, but she was a bit negative and told me not to expect too much at MY age.
So today she was very complimentary and said she was very impressed at my response to the drugs, at MY age. Oh pooh off!
Anyway, she gave me a quick scan to see if there were any underlying problems causing the irregular bleeding (now stopped apart from very occasional spotting - agnus castus)
Nothing dodgy, no polyps or whatever it was she was looking for.
She wasn't keen on a natural cycle for the embryo transfer, prefers the 'with drugs' medicated approach, but I said I was all done with the drugs and would rather wait to go back to a regular cycle than use the hormones.
So it looks like being January for treatment - she wants me to have 2 normal 27/8 day cycles before starting the procedure.
Fine, I'm as sick as a parrot anyway and don't want any poking around.
Interestingly, despite the bleeding, she reckoned I was on approximately CD10 based on the size of the follicles and the endometrium. She even said it looked as if I would be ovulating from my right ovary - which is my good(ish) side. I haven't told DP yet, but perhaps it's worth a BD.
He's in a grumpy mood - has been for ages, since I have been ill. It's not the same when he's ill!

So that's the 'me' post.

Kiwi so what did you reckon to the XF result this week?? Hmm!?
I must admit if the twins weren't in the comp I think it would be a little bit yawn. They do make me laugh.

KiwiKat · 09/11/2009 23:46

Well, that all sounds good, Rowing. Other than you feeling sick, that's pretty rubbish. And a grumpy dh - hah! I can relate to THAT, as well you know! Except that dh and I are back to friends, and I'm trying to ignore him having a couple of glasses of wine each night. (How's that for commitment?! NOT!) I'm on cd11, so you and I can hold hands on the roller coaster, if you like.

Yes, X Factor! Am a big torn about that. While I think the twins can't sing or dance and are arrogant little oiks, I agree with you that the competition would be significantly less interesting without them, and Mr Cowell knows a huge drawcard when he has them in front of him. Will be VERY interesting to see what happens this week!

How's everyone else? Just thinking that there are a number of names that I haven't seen for ages. Von Sudenfed, Gonepearshaped, for starters.

thefatladyscreams · 10/11/2009 14:08

Hi all, lots to catch up on.

Whoopie another BFP - congrats beauflies, wonderful news. It's been really encouraging having this sudden rash of BFPs.

rowing can't believe you're still suffering. You have definitely had more than your fair share of lurgys and colds recently. Sounds like your doctor was suffering from a bit of stuckupherownarseitis. Good on you for proving her wrong! Go on slip one in au naturelle, it might even put a smile on your DGrump's face!

Kiwi - DH and I managed to have a corker of a row at the weekend and all the time I'm struggling to balance a) that I'm really pissed off with him against b) god we need to make up quickly so it doesn't interfer with the timetable! Aghhhhhhhhh!

mabh how is the monitor going? Don't worry if you get weird results for the first couple of cycles. We got 18 highs in a row and were absolutely exhausted before I thought to ring the helpline.

PMSL at hippychick's green pee!

Have a vision of ghenghis as some sort of domestic goddess! Bet all your cupcakes are gone by now.

frosticle - my DH will be 50 next year. I know he finds the thought of being a dad again at 50 quite scary at times.

Anyway, off to try to do some work. Very unfocussed at the moment Anyone got a kick up the backside going spare?

ghenghismaam · 10/11/2009 18:57

TFLS oh how I wish...couldn't be further from the truth, Anthea Turner is the complete opposite of me - altho I am growing into Nigella sized proportions! A friend and I decided to do as a hobby/business cupcakes and nappycakes, as we were doing so many for friends we thought we'd see if there was money to be made. There is - but also waistlines to be expanded . Mine due to eating our product, my friend due to being 20 weeks pregnant!
I know it's tempting fate but am day 27, sore boobs and can smell strange things....watch this space (in the absence of a cupcake emoticon)

Woodelf · 10/11/2009 20:30

Ooooh Ghengis - sending babydust your way!!
DH is v tired at the moment so getting BD is testing my abilities but hoping to get an early night tonight....
I know what you mean Gum, everytime I hear the good news about 45/6/7 etc yr olds getting Pg I get all hopeful, and on other days I think 'Am I MAD??!!' - depends on the way the winds blowing. I'm still gonna let mother nature have her way for a while to see what will be.
Went to visit the nursery/primary school for DS today - loved it and I think he will too, except they kept asking if he was due to start reception and the poor mite is only just 3 - he's a bit taller than most, tis all!
Not really following XF but saw the plastic twins and found them disturbingly compelling - was worried for self and switched over pronto...

hippychick66 · 10/11/2009 21:54

rowing Does your doc know your taking agnus castus?? I have thought about it cos of the short cycles (plus I have been spotting for the last 2 days - day 10 & 11 - WTF is that all about??)

But i am nervous to take it cos it seems to be to do with the menopause.

I have a scan on Friday to check why my cycles keep coming on early - also cos they seem to start with spotting for a couple of days. It will be day 14 on friday and I'm hoping they are gonna say the same as they said to you, "Lovley egg there, Hippy just waiting for you to BD!"

Love to all.

rowingboat · 11/11/2009 00:40

Hi all,
Woodelf did your DS want to stay there? It must be nice having a big boy like that.
My DS is teeny, totally below average height-wise, he looks about three even though he is five. I console myself with the thought of free busfares for another couple of years.

Hippy I did tell the consultant that I took agnus castus to stop the bleeding, she chose to ignore the comment. I even said it twice and she still didn't acknowledge the mad witchcraft that is taking agnus castus. Didn't take it today, and still no bleeding. I do think it does a good job though, might be worth a try. It lengthened my cycle when I tried it a while back, think it added on a few days, but I was already on 28 days cycles so extra days were a bit upsetting because I thought I might be pg.
The minimum I took was 800 and up to 1600mg. It is worth a try if you want to lengthen your cycle, seems to work for a lot of people.

TFLS how is project makeup with your DH going? I hope it doesn't involve admitting to being in the wrong - yuck!

Ghengis ooo, fingers crossed for you. Keep away from the cupcakes! Do you still have the nappycake business running?
Might be handy having a few nappies in stock eh?!??!

Yay, I got some anti-bs today and have taken one tonight, but still having trouble sleeping hence still up on MN. It's the pressure in my head, I feel as if I have to distract myself by doing something until I am dog-tired and can't stay awake, which will probably be around 2am. Can't wait to have a decent night's sleep again.
Oh and not allowed to BD whilst on these anti-bs so boo to that. Oh well!

mabh · 11/11/2009 10:32

Hi fatlady day 9 on the new monitor. Slightly boring peeing on sticks all the time and still on 'low' but I guess it will be for a few days yet!

Its a funny thing, I had been jumping on DH every other day roughly from days 10 to 20, but now I have the monitor, I'm kind of thinking, well, there's not that much point, is there (when we're as tired as we are!). I find that a bit sad, but I guess all us ttcers seems to get that way in the end.

And I'm still having to explain repeatedly to DH that ttc at our age takes ages and our school teachers were wrong - it's actually quite difficult to get pg!

Anyway, I could do with one of those kicks up the proverbial, too - although bizarrely, I'm supposed to be writing a 400 word piece on romantic Lakes breaks .

Woodelf · 11/11/2009 14:35

Hi Rowing, its amazing how different kids can be; yep, DS would have happily stayed at the new school if I had let him, and yes, he is the height of a 5 year old in spite of being just 3. Will have to ensure he wears badge with I'm only 3 on it....
DH is tired at the mo so I'm getting close to having to say we might miss this cycle if we don't get a shove on. DOnt want things to become a chore but immaculate conception is 'fiction'!!!!
Us mere mortals need 2 to tango...

thefatladyscreams · 11/11/2009 17:30

ghenghis - sounds promising, fingers crossed for you.

rowing, let's hope this set of A/Bs work for you. Did laugh at your project make up. Yes, we made up Sunday with that old chestnut of a compromise that we both still thought we were right but agreed to disagree.

Hope you got your 400 words done mabh. I know that feeling of letting the monitor rule!

Good luck tomorrow hippy - let us know how you get on.

woodelf trying to think of some tango related quip but failed!

Finally had our first attempt with the preseed this week. But I nearly forgot about it so was desperately trying to find it and read the instructions before DH came up to bed and found me mid-insertion! Here's hoping...

hippychick66 · 11/11/2009 21:25

TFLS great image of you mid-insertion and hubbie walking in saying, "What the heck???"

  • ha ha. Did it feel different? Sorry if too personal a question, just wondered.

Went to the Fertility Show on Sat. Quite good - lots of very sad people who obviously are struggling big time. Also a stand all about life without kids which was v.sad (I was very humbled to admit that I already had 2 healthy great sons).

Zita West did a fab speech about how we should just get on with having sex every 3 days and stop worrying about when we are oving. She said the peeing on a stick wont get you preg - your man's sperm will!!! Quite funny but very true. I now what you mean mabh it does feel like it's a wasted time if you haven't got the go ahead from a stick - but Zita says we should stop thinking like that. Also she said that we should bd when the man wants to - go with his sperm as that will produce the best sex and ultimately the best chance. Hubbie already keeps reminding me that it's all about him these days (in a jokey way). Anyway the show was quite good but more for people who are ready to go down the IVF route I think. My sis is about to do doner IVF and she found it good. I've got my scan on Friday (hope I don't wee myself!!!) Thanks for the tip about agnus Castus rowing - not sure why I am so reluctant to try - how odd that your consultant refused to acknowlege. Bye for now.

Frosticle · 11/11/2009 22:21

mabh I took your advice and had thyroid tested. Test came back "normal" although I know its not normal not to feel cold sitting in a room at 23 deg C unless I have a woolly jumper on! My sister and mother both have underactive thyroid but maybe mine is only slightly underactive? Hey-ho.

rowing you're absolutely right re the Agnus Castus and thyroid - I looked it up - thank you! And I am doubly pleased about this because I have been taking AC for the last month and a half to help with short luteal phase. I could be killing two birds with one stone - fantastic!! Your comment about your DP being grumpy whilst you've been ill made me laugh - sounds very familiar - I think most of them are like that. I really hope the anti-bs work quickly for you - poor you, you've been ill for ages.

hippychick my reflexology is tomorrow. Hoorah! Will let you know if I learn anything interesting.

fatladyscreams I've got some preseed too and anticipate using it for the first time later this week. Am slightly apprehensive - having read some of previous comments made about it. I have visions of loads of it oozing out all over the place etc. and as lubrication, in general, is not one of my problems I'm concerned pre-seed might be a lubricant too far!

rowingboat · 11/11/2009 23:20

Oo nice being 'caught' inserting preseed TFLS. I found if you do it right it also makes a lovely flatulent sound, so adding to the romantic atmosphere.

Hippy was the fertility show helpful or just depressing? I think my consultant thought I was a crazy witch woman with herbal remedies and didn't want to validate my madness by discussing my witch's brew.

Mabh TTC is not a romantic pastime. It is a bit tragic, but you have to keep your eyes on the prize and try not to look boooored or fall asleep.

Woodelf it is very tempting to just have a nice early night on the smiley face days on the cb ovulation monitor. Perhaps some viagra?

Frosticle, is that why you have your pseudonym because of the 23 degrees and wooly vest thing?
I think the 'normal' range for thyroid is actually quite high. I'm sure I read that somewhere you can still have symptoms of hypothyroid if you were subclinical and on the lower end of the normal range.

So this is day two of the anti-bs and I do feel slightly improved. Nice!
Whilst on the tedious nature of prolonged TTC, i.e if you don't get pg in a couple of months. I saw a cool product on Holland and Barrett it has maca, horny goat weed and other natural aphrodisiacs - I would definitely give it a try if I weren't on anti-bs this cycle. Anything to make it a bit more interesting.

Frosticle · 12/11/2009 00:14

rowing "preseed ......makes a lovely flatulent sound, so adding to the romantic atmosphere" - LOL!!! [grin}. I'm planning to use it later this week and that information is not helping to encourage me! I can at a least anticipate a good laugh if not a pregnancy!

My pseudonym is nothing to do with the feeling cold thing - honestly, I'm not that focused on it - although it does fit. It's a name a (very lovely) ex-boyfriend used to call me "Frosticle the Freezer Mouse" because of my habit of demolishing the choc ices in the freezer before he got to them.

Re the thyroid thing, thinking about it, I was every bit as cold when I got pregnant with my DD so there's no real reason to believe that it will affect my chances this time. Apart from being 5 years older of course ....

Great that you're feeling better at last!

mabh · 12/11/2009 10:44

Not too happy this am. DH tells me that we should get more 'quickies' in because he hasn't got the time for the more usual version.

B(**^dy men, they think, 'oh how exciting, my sex life will be back-to-back quickies' and I think, great, no foreplay (will have to buy lubricant) and I'll be lying on my back, half naked, in the living room for half an hour whilst his sperm sinks to relevant places.

Thanks hubby love you too.

Am beginning to wonder why we're bothering with all this.

rowingboat · 12/11/2009 13:40

Mabh I didn't like to say, but yes TTC requires lubricant and the fun factor is seriously absent, it's all so....functional really.
I hope you get pg very soon before you are thoroughly disillusioned by the tedium of it all.

mabh · 12/11/2009 15:41

rowingboat preseed it is, then. And it had better bloomin' well help!

I used to wonder how second and subsequent children are ever born, but now I'm thinking, I wouldn't have to be lying around on the living room floor if there were other people here.

Maybe I should get a lodger

And we don't have time for a second one so

mabh · 12/11/2009 15:54

Do yo think he'd notice if I carried on reading Twilight ?

hippychick66 · 12/11/2009 17:40

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1227063/Theres-born-minute--Femail-goes-undercover-UKs-fer tility-show.html

This is an article written on the mail website about the Fertility Show. It is rubbish and this is not my experience of the show AT ALL. The comments are good though - lots of women standing up for themselves and saying what a stupid woman this writer is.

If my LP is still short this month then I am defo gonna try the AC. I'm on day 13 today, we managed a v quick BD before I went to pick the boys up from school - it was so nice to get it all done and dusted before they turned up - so much easier than trying to sneak off. I'm trying to abide by Zita's rule and keep it all natural and lovely but I'm secretly still peeing on a stick to check for Ov - just can't stop myself - sorry Zita!!!

fifitot · 12/11/2009 19:55

Who has time to do it every 3 days anyway???? Or the will - I'm with mabh - if I could have watched telly while Dh did his thing would have suited me fine!!!

hippychick66 · 12/11/2009 21:31

Just watching octomum about the woman who had 8 babies. OMG - just the 1 for me please God!!!

gumblossom · 12/11/2009 22:58

Yes every three days seems a bit excessive! I wouldn't mind giving it a go, but seeings my Dh sleeps in another room because our toddler will only sleep with me (I know,I know, rod for my own back etc...) and when said toddler is up at 5 am, has to be watched very closely, we don't get a lot bding happening. It's down to weekend visits when the older kids can watch the toddler while I go back for a "sleep in". I have no idea how I'll factor in a mid-week shag! I think it'll have to do.

Anyway...is anyone getting close to testing? I peed on a stick, knowing full well there was no chance, yesterday, it was neg. The doc suggested I do a hpt once a month seeing I have no AF to go by.I think I'd have an idea from symptoms, and taking temps would also give me an idea. I just fantasize about getting a lovely surprise positive. What are the chances when you are ttc and hyper alert to everything going on in your body?

Was there any other good advice from the fertilty show?

Rowing - so glad to hear you are feeling better.A sinus infection can really knock you around.

Frosticle, that was a very funny comment about the preseed "Flatulant sound". I've used it previously and found the recommended dose was way TOO much.Hardly a chance to get a grip IYKWIM!! So I used less after that.

Hippy, why did that woman have 8???Surely it is putting the babies at risk having so many at once, it must have been fertilty treatment?

gumblossom · 12/11/2009 23:10

Oh no....I just read that article about the fertilty show, surely that statistic about being over 43 isn't true.A 5% chance???I shouldn't read this stuff....

tetleytea · 13/11/2009 11:15

Hi girls,

I'm back again, but not just to say hello. Sad to say I lost my little chick pea on wednesday It all happened completely out of the blue, no warning. Am ok, just feeling very sad.

Only positive thing about it is to be back with you all, especially now the s are included.
