Oh Nancy, I feel for you, do not be embarassed about shedding tears. I've had 4 losses at various times and it's never easy. Be gentle with yourself, however early, this was your baby and you had plans made for it, you need to grieve. x

Report
NancyPreg · 04/06/2009 20:31

Thanks liahgen. Sorry to hear about your four losses - did you ever get any kind of explanation for them? Anyway, I see from the list that you are TTC#6! Wow, you go girl!!!

Report
liahgen · 04/06/2009 20:36

no I never had explanations except the 1st many years ago, placental failure, (20 wks)

other 3 were 11wks, 10+5 and 6 wks at Xmas just gone. They didn't investigate as they weren't consecutive. Just one of those things I guess in my situation. So many pgs, some are bound to fail.

Hope you manage to get some answers, how old is your youngest?

Report
NancyPreg · 04/06/2009 21:09

It seems a bit of a silly rule that only three consecutive mc can be investigated (on the NHS at least) because surely a mc is a mc is a mc?! My youngest is 4yrs old. One of her presents this year was a sunflower growing kit: three pots, nine seeds and a cute watering can. My dh put compost in each pot and three seeds in each one....we watered and waited. In my dd's pot, 3/3 seeds germinated. In my pot, 2/3 seeds germinated and in my dh's pot....0/3

So yes, like seeds, I guess some pg will flourish and others sadly will not.

Having six dc must keep you very busy, are they all at school?

Report
liahgen · 04/06/2009 21:13

I only have 5 so far

dd 14
ds 11 and half, (going secondary in Sept)
ds 6 in couple weeks
dd 4 starts school in sept
dd just 2, my baby, can go to playschool from January

so realistically I would have childfree time for 2 mornings a week for 2 months before next baby arrives even if I conceive this month, gosh, what will i do with myself?

Report
NancyPreg · 04/06/2009 21:43

It seems that your dc6 should be a ds, to even up the numbers!!

As much as we adore our dc...we also adore the time when they are in nursery/school

Oh yes me time is very precious no matter how much we love and adore out=r young uns.

I know some people have irregular cycle lengths, but is it poss to have irregular ovulation?

I mean, sometimes my UCL is as short as 26 days, longest would be around 31 days. I think I ovulate quite late in the cycle (around day 16), that's just guessing by knicker checking.

Someone told me that the later you ovulate in the cycle the less change the egg has to get to the place it needs to be for the sperm to fert. Is that true?

Just curious to hear what other women experience.

TLC - As far as i understand your cycle length depends on when you ovulate and the length of time between O and af (the Luteal Phase). The LP is usually fairly constant, so if eg you have a LP of 14 days and you ovulate on day 12, your next af should arrive on day 26, If you ovulate on day 16 you next af should arrive on day 30.

LP's can vary sometimes though. When i was trying ttc #2 my LP's varied between 10-12 days, which may have been because i was still bf'ing ds1.

The longer the LP the more chance the egg has of implanting. An LP of at least 10 days is needed to support a pregnancy. Some sites say 12 days but we managed to concieve with a 10-12 day LP.

Thanks diamis that makes sense to me now.

I think my first cycle of ttc was only about 8 days, but last month (cycle 2) was 11 days (I think).

I wonder if there's anything that can be done to change it, or make it longer?

LittleOneMum I know what you mean! Next month I'm going away for 2 weeks, will be over my fertile weeks, am going away on a church thing without my husband. If we aren't successful this month, we'll need to wait for Aug to try again. Oh well.

I asked about this because my cycle is only 26 days and I'm ovulating (knicker checking + pain today) bang on day 12. Anyway, she said that short cycles per se were not so much of a problem unless your cycle is literally 12 days long, she told me that can happen.

Hi everyone, just updated the list cos my CD was out of kilter with reality!

LOM - not good timing...unless you ovulate later than usual this month?

AFAIK, it really doesn't matter when in your CD that you ovulate, what is more important is the length of the luteal phase (as has been pointed out already). I've read that taking vitamin B6 (miminum 100mg per day) can help to lenthen the LP but I wouldn't advocate self-medicating...perhaps you could do a search on MN for B6?

Well I've got my doc's appt tomorrow to ask about recurrent mc, so I'm wondering what he'll tell me....

skihorse who did you ask? Other MNers, or a health professional?

I too am knicker checking , think it's a bit early for me yet, another few days should do it. My boobs are really tender today; not sure if that's a sign of ovulation or not.

We're taking things nice and easy atm, still only on cycle 3, so in no huge rush to conceive this month.

Hope everyone else is well.
