Curly just seen your rubella thread, well done for bringing it up for people, have had a read of link and will definitely be speaking to Dr about it

CurlyCasper · 03/08/2009 22:04

Thanks claire. I don't want to scaremonger, but I do think this is an issue women should be aware of. Hope you don't need a booster x

sevans · 03/08/2009 22:39

Hi ladies! I just thought I would check in. July was my first month off the pill and TTC. I'm on CD 39 and still no sign of AF. I did a test nine days ago and got a BFN. It's kind of frustrating that I don't know what is going on.

Best of luck to you all

claireinthecommunity · 04/08/2009 08:29

Hi sevans I'd do another test, surprised you haven't already!! Let us know how you get on

Curly I get what you mean about scaremongering, but I see it that you're just putting the info out there - people can take it however they wish. I certainly hadn't given rubella a thought, I'm glad you've raised it and I'm going to get it checked out

Ozziegirly · 04/08/2009 08:37

I'm pleased I had the MMR jab pre conception - even though apparently all those illnesses are incredibly rare in Oz as they have such a massively sucessful vaccination program (you get paid for having them here).

My mum said when she was pregnant with me she did live in semi fear of small children with spots!

Also, I run a Girl Guide unit so am in contact with children every week, so thought it would be prudent to get myself covered just in case.

claireinthecommunity · 04/08/2009 09:00

That's good to hear Ozzie

It never even occurred to me also it obviously didn't occur to my GP who never mentioned it

How are things with you Ozzie, my period is another heavy one like last month, had some red wine last night for medicinal purposes (it's the beginning of my cycle - it's aloud)

fulhamgirl · 04/08/2009 09:05

Hiya guys will it be ok if I join your link as well please? It helps so much to talk to others.

I missed a period in May. Doctor said it ws unlikley to be a misscarriage but was still possible. Anyway we have waited 3 months just to be on the safe side. Now we are trying again im so excited.

Im 23 and my partner is 25. Im kinda new to all this when you ovulate and things. Im day 12 into my cycle now so is this the best time to concieve?

In the past we have been a little less careful but no sign of becomming pregnant so im scared it's going to take me ages.

I have a feeling as if im comming on. Back pain and tummy pain can this mean im ovulating?

Thanks guys for your time.

claireinthecommunity · 04/08/2009 09:18

Welcome fulhamgirl

Yes you could well be ovulating on day 12 of your cycle.

I'm just about to take my washing out and hang it on the line, sure to bring on the rain I know, but thought I would post you a link for further info : www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/829.aspx

I've spent hours googling most things baby related and keep coming back to the NHS site

ImmaterialGirl · 04/08/2009 09:58

Morning everyone!

And welcome fulhamgirl I'm another newbie to this

Sigh, Rubella? Another thing to worry about? I just had a smear yesterday, taking folic acid, thought I was reasonably well prepared...

Oh well, I guess I should see the GP then, I do want to do this right...

sevans did you test this morning? Fingers firmly crossed for you...

xxx

claireinthecommunity · 04/08/2009 10:13

Good morning Immaterialgirl did you ask the nurse/Dr who performed the smear about it's effects if any on TTC for this month? I remember you'd questioned it (think it was on the May bus) I'm interested because I'll be due one soon!

ImmaterialGirl · 04/08/2009 10:23

Morning claire I did ask and the nurse said it was no problem at all.
In fact, she said they could easily do them on pregnant women and it was unlikely to have any effect, they just don't as they don't want the smear to be given the blame if something does go wrong...

She also said it would take an extra two months to get results compared to what you might have been used to before due to the 'Jade Goody effect' which has seen a 75% uptake in smear tests.

fulhamgirl · 04/08/2009 10:58

Hiya guys thank you for the warm welcome.

I cant have a smear test yet as im not 25. Can I just ask what you guys are testing for?

I had a number of blood tests when I missed my period and they all came back fine and an internal as well.

Its very exciting though trying for a baby!! Im wishing you all so much luck.

Im really nervous!!

xxx

claireinthecommunity · 04/08/2009 12:22

Immaterialgirl that's reassuring to know, thanks I can understand the not wanting to perform the procedure on PG women. The 'Jade Goody effect', what a great legacy to leave behind.

fulhamgirl is it really 25 until you can have a smear test?!! I'm an old lady now (33) and can't remember when I had my first one. Jade Goody couldn't have been much older than that (25) when she started getting abnormalities in that area, I wonder if the starting age for smear tests will be lowered in the future?

ImmaterialGirl · 04/08/2009 12:53

claire I know I though it was such a great thing too!

fulhamgirl I'm surprised at the age limit as well. I'm 29 and had my first smear at 20, and one ever three years since. They must have upped the age limit quite recently.

In terms of what to test for generally, if you haven't already, it might be a good idea to go to your GP and tell them you're TTC and ask what they advice (I say this but I haven't actually done so myself yet... Will book today though!)

sevans · 04/08/2009 18:22

ImmaterialGirl - no, I did not test this morning. I guess I talked myself into testing this Saturday if AF doesn't show up.

I'm not really in a big hurry to test because I really believe it will be a BFN. I don't feel pregnant (not that I would know what that would feel like!) and I am attributing my late period to my PCOS. Since diagnosed with PCOS six years ago, I have been on the pill up until this July when we started TTC. I kind of remember my periods being pretty irregular before the pill.

I'm guessing a smear test is a pap smear?? If so, I got my first one at 18 (first trip to the gyn) and have received one yearly since then during my annual appointments with the gyn. Not fun!

claireinthecommunity · 04/08/2009 21:43

sevans I'm sorry if I came across as off hand about you not having taken a PG test yet, It didn't occur to me that you suffered with PCOS.

I hope you get an answer one way or the other soon

I don't know that much about PCOS and I hope you don't mind me asking, but have you been given any advice or treatment by your gyn/Dr for the condition, as you are planning on TTC?

sky27 · 04/08/2009 21:49

Hi all. I booked in and saw the nurse today about the pre-con tests. After fighting with three receptionists who told me in no uncertain terms they did NOT do pre-con tests. The nurse said they wouldn't test for mumps, measels or chicken pox but after about 20 mins she got permission from a doctor to test for rubella. So I have to wait a week for the results.

now I have to visit occupational health to check my resistance to Hep b because I work in a high risk job...joy!

Thanks for bringing this up. Just to let you know you have to wait three months after a rubella jab before conceiving as it is a live vaccine and will affect the baby.

sevans · 04/08/2009 22:23

claireinthecommunity - It's OK. Another reason I'm not in a big hurry to test is because I already took a test on CD 30 and got a BFN. I'm now at CD 40.

I don't mind at all talking about PCOS. I see an endocrinologist once a year and the last time I was there I told her DH and I would TTC soon so I needed some instruction. She told me to finish off the pill and then start trying. If after three months of TTC I am not pregnant and did not get three periods, to go back to her and we will move to the next step because I may not be ovulating. I'm guessing the next step is Clomid. I kind of think my PCOS is mild. I don't take any medication for it...besides the pill to regulate my periods but obviously I no longer take it.

Well, July was our first month of TTC and I don't think I am pregnant and I didn't get a period. If I don't get pregnant in August or September, I guess I am going to see her in October. She seemed very hopeful that I would get pregnant so that gives me some hope!

claireinthecommunity · 04/08/2009 23:44

sevans thanks for explaining your situation in more detail. It's good that you are being seen by an endocrinologist and that she will see you again in three months time, if no pregnancy before then. I've heard of Clomid and know there are threads relating to it on here. It's good to hear that you think your PCOS is mild, your Doctors positive attitude must be reassuring too

sky well done for getting yourself checked out, I haven't made an appointment yet but am due to see Dr for prescription shortly, so will do both at the same time!

Ozziegirly · 05/08/2009 04:16

sky that's awful! I casually mentioned to my Dr when I was there for something else that we were thinking of TTC (this was back in January) and she got very excited and gave me leaflets, did a breast check, booked me in for a smear and did blood tests for everything under the sun (measles, mumps, chicken pox, rubella, hepititis, iron levels, cholesterol, diabetes check) - it was like a full physical really.

She said it's so handy if people can go in before they have conceived as the woman's pre conception health is apparently really important in avoiding things like premature birth, lots of various defects, all sorts.

Of course, you can always have other problems completely unexpectedly but she said if people are there, they take the opportunity to do a full work up on them.

CurlyCasper · 05/08/2009 06:35

sky sorry to hear you had to fight for this - but good on you for seeing it through!
Gutted to have more confirmation of the three months though, that will put me into TTC Nov

sevans I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

have a good wednesday

Ozziegirly · 05/08/2009 08:39

Curly - I was definitely told 1 month for MMR, she even looked it up in a book for me as I said I thought it was longer.

Chicken pox is three months though as you have one jab and then a booster 6 weeks later.

Tricky as I am very much an "err on the side of caution" person. In any event it didn't matter as it is 4 months later anyway, and still not pregnant!

CurlyCasper · 05/08/2009 12:25

thanks ozzie. I did think "oh well, another month won't matter cause I probably won't catch on straight away" but then I'd rather have that month of trying in the bag. Hey ho, we'll just have to see what happens.

Don't think I've posted my other bit of news on this thread, sorry if I have,. My SIL is expecting DC2 - due April. I'm both jealous and delighted! Mum knows there's (hopefully) one on the cards from us too, so I don't think she can contain her excitement!

ImmaterialGirl · 05/08/2009 12:42

sevans I'm also sorry if I came across as too flippant when asking if you'd tested. I'm really glad your doctor is so positive. Hope it all goes well for you!

I'm really worried about this Rubella thing now, as I don't want to stop TTC
But then, it is better to be careful. Seeing my GP next week, hopefully they'll do tests then.

And CurlyCasper congrats to your SIL! I'm sure you'll be right behind her

CurlyCasper · 05/08/2009 13:01

immaterial I'm sure you'll be ok. Fingers crossed for you

I see you are in Scotland, and a year younger than me. So can you remember when Scottish girls of our age were given the rubella vaccine. Was it in first year? (age 12ish?). I think it's more of a personal thing about how long it last, rather than a specific lifespan for immunity, but I'm still trying to work out when I was vaccinated.

Thanks
