JasHook · 06/07/2009 16:33

Sorry ladies - I've been away from the internet for a few days...

Well no AF showed by today, so I tested.

BFP.

I'm now in utter shock and have no idea what to do with myself except sitting on the sofa occasionally saying "eep".

CurlyCasper · 06/07/2009 17:06

Jas that's wonderful news - congrats! The first BFP I've witnessed on mumsnet. May there be many more xxx

JasHook · 06/07/2009 17:53

Thankyou Curly

I'm sure it'll sink in soon. In a few hours. Or days...I just can't believe it happened the first month. I'm actually spending half my time questioning the result.

(DH has just brought flowers. Awww.)

I wish the same luck to everyone else TTC. Happy thoughts, ladies!

claireinthecommunity · 06/07/2009 21:22

OH Jas that's fantastic news congratulations.

I feel really excited for you, I know I don't know you, but there it is. As Curly said: "The first BFP I've witnessed on mumsnet".

I've even told my DH who is sitting here and he's pleased too!

Ozziegirly · 07/07/2009 00:54

Jas, that is wonderful news! Congratulations!

My first BFP witnessed on mumsnet too...

Really, fantastic, I'm so pleased for you, and can't wait to watch your progress over the next 9 months.

claireinthecommunity · 07/07/2009 13:02

Has it sunk in yet Jas?

And hello to ITMG, I'm afraid I forgot to reply to your post after hearing Jas's good news! Hope all is well with you, my broadband is a bit up and down too, post when you can

JasHook · 07/07/2009 13:06

Thankyou Claire and Ozzie - no, I don't think it's quite sunk in yet, though I stared at the little pink lines for about an hour...

I want to be really excited but I'm still just completely gobsmacked by the whole thing!

Called the health centre yesterday and they got me in to see the midwife this morning. Now drowning in baby pamphlets.

InTheMidnightGarden · 07/07/2009 14:42

Afternoon all.

Claire: Thats ok lol. My internet is back working now. All is well here just waiting for Ov.
I am on CD10 now so should be Ov time ina few days.

Jas: I loose internet conection for a few days then come back to find someone has a BFP. Congratulations huni. So happy for you.

I managed to track down an ovulation thermometer last night and took my temp this morning. It was 35.83 - that seems really low to me, but it is cold here and it would explain why I am always in 4 jumpers when my DH is in shorts!

claireinthecommunity · 08/07/2009 21:52

Evening all,

I'm with you ITMG in waiting for OV, I'm on CD6 and going on last months cycle, I think I'll be OV around CD16.

Well done Ozzie in tracking down a thermometer, lol at 4 jumpers. I haven't looked into the temping side of ttc yet, how does it work - what do you need to do? (well, of course it involves taking your temperature, but YKWIM)

Other than overloading you with leaflets, how did your appointment with the midwife go Jas? Wow, I can't believe we're talking about midwife appointments already!

Ozziegirly · 09/07/2009 00:26

Well it seems that all I need to do is take my temp with this special thermometer at the same time first thing in the morning every day. You have to do it before getting up etc, literally, alarm goes off, reach over, take temp.

Then I make a record of it. Apparently temp is lower in the first 2 weeks, then goes up at ovulation, and then stays up if you're pregnant, or goes down again if you're not.

I don't know if I am ovulating or not, as I don't seem to have any CM at all, and so I thought this would be a good way of seeing if I am, and also, on what day.

Obviously once the temp goes up it means I have ovulated that month so it's too late for conception that month, unless we've DTD before, but I"m mainly doing it just to see if I am actually ovulating, and when, and if there is a pattern to it, so we can at least plan DTD a bit.

I don't want to get too hung up on it, but equally if I'm not ovulating then that's good to know, and also if I am not ovulating at the normal middle of the cycle, then that's also handy to know.

Today and yesterday it's been basically the same so I am keeping fingers crossed that my body is working properly!

I'm CD7 today so we are cycle buddies.

claireinthecommunity · 09/07/2009 01:02

Thanks for explaining that, it's pretty straight forward really. It does seem like a good idea for you, what with no CM to judge by. Luckily for me, I do get CM and last month I got EWCM when I would of expected to (based on average OV date, generally speaking) But we'll see if anything happens over the next few month, I might join you in temping if I don't get a BFP soon! It'll be interesting to see what your temperature does over the next couple of weeks.

Yeah we are cycle buddies ITMG has a head start on us and Jas has already finished the race

CurlyCasper · 09/07/2009 06:26

ozzie I'm about to start temping to - for the same reasons, to see if I am ovulating. I got thermom fairly cheaply from Amazon after giving you the links. Arrived yesterday - and I've already forgotten to use it today! oops!

Anyhoo, now at CD 27, so expecting AF to make an appearance soon...

Ozziegirly · 09/07/2009 08:50

Yes, that's the one thing - I have to actually remember to do it! I have put it by my alarm so that should help as I am not at my most with it at 6.30am.....

I think it seems a good idea to at least have some knowledge of what's going on in there. I haven't involved DH in it so he won't feel like I'm trying to DTD "for babies" as opposed to "for fun" - but to be honest he's normally quite keen if I give him even a vague come on, so that part at least is ok

JasHook · 09/07/2009 09:05

Claire I always was only good at the sprint in school And thankyou ITMG for your congrats.

Also, midwife. MIDWIFE?! I nearly had a fit when the receptionist said that word. I thought "That can't be yet!!"

She was very nice. I wanted to cry all over her for being so nice.

Well, I've woken up this morning convinced that it's all a GREAT BIG LIE. Of course I'm not pregnant. These things are impossible. AF will appear any second now.

I can see myself buying another test to make sure. I am officially going insane.

claireinthecommunity · 09/07/2009 12:18

Curly that would be me forgetting to take my temp. Also, because we work mostly from home, or if we are out on a job it can be into the early hours, our routine can be somewhat nonexistent all over the place. So, I'm not sure I would much appreciate an alarm going off at the same time every morning! Particularly 6.30am Ozzie I know, I know, I'll have to get used to it when a baby arrives, until then I'm not waking up until I need to

Lol Jas at ..."I always was only good at the sprint in school"... I've read on other threads of women testing to keep confirming that they are actually PG, so if you are going mad, you are in good company

Ozziegirly · 10/07/2009 00:55

Hmmm, interestingly today I took my temp and it has gone up from 35.84 on CD7 to 36.27 today.

So I wonder if I ovulate really early? It'll be interesting to see if my temp stays high as then will mean I probably did.

Which would explain the lack of a BFP last month as we DTD on CD3 and then not again until CD10, but then loads that following week, by which time ovulation may have been and gone....

It would also be too late this month as we haven't DTD at all since last weekend.

But if it is early at least I will know for next month.

Equally it could be that I was moving around before my alarm went off and that has raised my temp, so keeping on taking it will answer that.

Very interesting though!

CurlyCasper · 10/07/2009 07:04

Great to have someone else trying this BBT thing ozzie!

Interesting results - I suppose time will tell. Sorry if this is seeking TMI, but do you mind saying which method you are using (i.e where are you putting the thermometer?!)

Oral would not be a problem, but they say you have to venture further south for a good result, and I don't fancy heading in that direction when I've just woke up and need the loo! But you're not supposed to move before doing it... don't make these things easy do they!

Again, sorry if TMI, but I'd like to get this right.

Claire I certainly wouldn't be adding early mornings to my routine if unnecessary. As it is I wake at 6am most days which is fine when working, but it looks like that will have to set the alarn at weekends too...

Jas: how's the bean carrying going? Any more real yet?

ITMG : hope you get the web sorted soon xx

Ozziegirly · 10/07/2009 08:22

I'm going for an oral measurement. My info leaflet that came with the therm said rectal is the best, but to be honest I can't really get enthused about sticking a themometer up my bottom every morning.

Plus it just seems a bit unhygenic.

CurlyCasper · 10/07/2009 09:25

Thanks ozzie, that's what I thought/hoped! Oral all the way then x

CurlyCasper · 11/07/2009 13:44

This is wannabe mother. It's CD 29 in Curly's body, and there's still no sign of a visit from AF.

After 13 years on the pill, she's finding it a but unnerving to not run like 28-day clockwork, but she's determined to stand firm, and not run for the chocolate cake as a distraction

(If I'm being impatient about getting an idea of my cycle length, what's the rest of waiting to start and waiting while TTC going to be like!?)

Hope you're all ok out there. Probably got better things to do with your Saturday than me. (Have lots of housework to do, so of course I'm on MN!)

x

JasHook · 11/07/2009 20:03

Hullo ladies, happy Saturday...

Curly you made me laugh, and I'm not having a great time with the bean-carrying so far, so thankyou for the ray of sunshine.

Hormones. Gah. They're making me into a crazy woman. I am terrified of everything right now. If there's a worst-case scenario, I have imagined it in glorious technicolour and am convinced it will happen to me/my bean. Ugh.

CurlyCasper · 12/07/2009 15:57

oh Jas sorry things aren't so good. Think you need some thoughts. There are plenty of lovely baby tales on here. Sure all will be just fine. Take care x

JasHook · 12/07/2009 18:03

I'm not very good at thoughts! Must persevere....

Ozziegirly · 13/07/2009 00:55

Well my temping is going odd - it went up for a couple of days, and then has gone down again back to where it was last week.

Well, I guess once I've temped for a month maybe I'll see more of a pattern.

Jas - don't forget that (nearly) every human on this planet has arisen through good old fashioned bonking - normal pregnancies are, by definition, the norm. I think when you're on a site like this, which is kind of all about pregnancy, conception etc, it's easy to focus on the negative, but most pregnancies just are totally fine.

Good luck though - and I do say these things now but know I will feel differently once/if I get a BFP!
