Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

I'll just say it here because it's not something I'm going to make common knowledge amongst family and friends - we TTC this year!

I feel surprisingly chilled about it all. Maybe it's because it's still eight months away... or maybe it's because I'm actually READY!

cheekster · 04/01/2010 23:21

Im liking the 'shettles' method - it makes perfect sense IMO. Well compared with other methods anyway.

NinjaChipmunk · 05/01/2010 15:59

hello can i join? i really want to get pg with dc2 this year. have not yet talked to dp about it but know he does want more kids. need to actually start having regular sex first to get all that side of relationship back on even keel but would like to ttc from early summer onwards if at all possible! i live in a tiny flat, have bugger all money and am sooooo broody its unbelieveable!

loopylou2 · 06/01/2010 19:16

Hi everyone,

I joined this thread about a month ago and haven't been particularly active in writing stuff, sorry! But I did want to say I hope you've all had a nice Christmas and New Year and also to ask what people are doing with themselves during this 'waiting period'.

I've cut down on caffeine and started to take the right supplements. I'm also trying to limit the amount of junk I eat- easy after the over-indulgence of Christmas! Whata er the rest of you up to?

It's so easy to feel impatient to move to the actual TTC thread, or otherwise I just daydream loads about when I'm no longer waiting.

Anyway take care everyone and hope not too many of you are snowed in!! xx

Hi all, we're going to start TTC from the start of feb, what my Dr recommended after my treatment, I can't wait - went into mothercare yesterday and picked up a catalogue - had to show huge restraint to stop myself picking up baby stuff in the sale. Also want to talk to dd (4.8) about it, but won't as I don't know how long it will take - but we have told family that we'll be TTC sometime this year, so its not too much of a surprise for them (we had said we were stopping after dd, but we changed our minds).
My Dr has booked me in for a swine flu jab tomorrow afternoon. He says pregnant women are 5 times more likely to get swine flu and 10 times more likely to suffer complications from it, so they recommend the vacine for pregnant women, obviously some have concerns about a vaccination when pregnant so it makes sense to get it done when you're about to start trying. I'm on the pregnacare conception vitamins too and a healthhy eating regime, and will start excercising soon - when I've got over a horrid sore throat - I'd like to loose a few pounds before I get pregnant, but only about 5lbs which I should manage in a month. So excited, can't wait!

cheekster · 06/01/2010 21:14

Hi to Ninja, Loopy and Little B

The waiting time seems to be forever, I know it's the best thing to do but all I seem to see is pregnant women and tiny babies (it doesnt help that both my neighbours are heavily pregnant)

To try and fill the time loopylou were doing quite a bit of work on the house (nesting I suppose you could call it). The extension is almost built and Ive got a list of all the other things I need to do.

I also want to lose maybe a stone before July. It may seem crazy if Im going to put it back on but I want to be the healthiest I can.

Not really thought about the swine flu jab or taking supplement ... maybe I should.

Hope you are all well

LittleB · 06/01/2010 21:43

Hi cheekster, I'm doing things around the house too. We're doing up our attic room so that dd can move up there - giving her more space and freeing up her bedroom to become the nursery. Its mainly done but does need additional insulation and redecorating. I've just brought lovely pink paint to repaint some furniture to brighten it up for her, aiming to have her in for her birthday in May. But I know that will carry on once pregnant - last time I did dd's nursery - top to bottom - floorboards, skirting, walls and ceiling, and sewed lots of things too! Also want to redo our lounge floor (currently worn holey carpet over uneven patched flagstones - want to level the floor and put down wooden flooring)and rearrange the garden - should keep me busy for a while anyway!
I don't think you need to start supplements and swine flu jabs if you're not TTC until July but proably worth a visit to your GP nearer the time to discuss it. I had to see him re some treatment I had to my cervix (I posted about that here many pages back!) so asked him all about it all while I was there.
I'm not having a break between coming off the pill and TTC, as I wanted to TTC as soon after treatment as I could, but not before I've recovered from treatment. Last time I came off the pill I immediately had very regular AF anyway, and have always been regular when not on the pill so GP said not too worry. He said they used to recommend it to help with EDD but this is done at the 12wk scan now anyway. But some people want to do it for themselves which I can understand - its what I did last time.

cheekster · 06/01/2010 22:11

TTC in Feb - very exciting LittleB. Do you just have DD then - how old is she?

I have a DS whos almost 18mo and still not asleep BTW We are going to TTC once he has turned 2 so that hopefully he will be a little more independent once DC2 comes along. There are other reasons why we are waiting until July - house, work etc -waiting until then just makes more sense - but it seems an age away!

Im not on the pill at the moment so that isnt something I need to think about either. I didnt bother after DS was born as I knew I would like another and if it did happen sooner then it wouldnt be too bad.

So just the house to get sorted and that stone in weight to shift - I wonder which will take the longest

loopylou2 · 07/01/2010 16:33

Hi Cheekster, Little B and Ninja

Really glad to hear from you all!

I think that getting the home sorted before pregnancy is such an important thing- after all it should be a time where you relax as much as possible and knowing everything is sorted really will help that. (Little B, sounds like you've got quite a bit to be doing!!)

Still not sure about the swine flu thing, I was pg last year but mc'd before it was offered to me- I have been trying to make up my mind about whether to have it or not ever since then. Maybe the suggestion about having it while in the pre-TTC stages is a good one.

Cheekster I know all about the whole weight loss struggle! I have vowed that my womb WILL be the uterine equivalent of the Ritz Penthouse Suite within the next 12 weeks. And yet, have I made it to the gym even once since the New Year? mumbles well I'll just blame it on the snow and ice everywhere gotta get on with that.

It's really good to hear from other people who are in the same boat- makes me feel less alone- I can't really talk to my friends or work colleagues about this too much, don't think they are having the same broody longings just yet! I just get so excited about the idea that I don't always know what to do with the energy.

Lx

tanmu82 · 07/01/2010 16:49

me too Loopylou2! When I am all excited with nowhere for it to go I start stalking the conception threads!!!

LittleB · 07/01/2010 20:28

I get excited too - keep researching pushchairs etc! I have one dd who is 4.8, so will be 5 or more when we have another. We did originally decide to just have dd - I found working and looking after dd very hard when she was small and really felt I couldn't cope with another, but over the last year things have got so much easier and now dd is at school I have some free time again - I work 3x8hr days per week, so full days but time off too. dd is now at an age where she would love to help with a little one too and keeps asking for a little sister. We also now have have the money (just) to properly convert our attic room for dd which gives us the space to accomodate 2, don't know how we could've fitted them in before, as dd's current room is tiny, 8ftx7ft.
Right off to do some more research on car seats! (Got rid of alot of dd's stuff when we thought we wouldn't have another - although I do still have some things thankfully!)

tanmu82 · 07/01/2010 22:52

I pass the broody times by ogling the pics on this site and making plans.....

cheekster · 08/01/2010 00:19

And Ive found myself on the baby names topics all the time

What are we like!

bebejones · 08/01/2010 08:48

I've been reading my baby name book & writing a shortlist . DH & I are arguing already & not even TTC let alone PG!!!

slowshow · 08/01/2010 15:45

Name shortlist? I have a girl name PICKED I'm so desperate to use it.

bebejones · 08/01/2010 19:25

Shortlist is because we can't ever agree! I tell DH what I like & he says no to 90% of them! I am desperate to use a Girls name in particular & DH is very very resistant!

Pidgin · 09/01/2010 09:20

Morning all! Good to hear the news and hope everyone is doing well. I've had a bit of a break from MN due to Xmas hols and work stuff - but wanted to pop my head round the door to say hi to everyone and also farewell as I guess we are now kind-of-almost TTC.

We've decided to think of it as 'not preventing pregnancy' rather than 'trying to conceive' for the time being to take the pressure off (we'll see how long that lasts!). But anyway, no longer officially 'waiting'.

So, thanks to all for lots of support and help over the past few months - good luck to everyone and look forward to hearing how we all get on! And this may be too late, but thanks to Hobnob76 for starting the whole thread in the first place.

Happy New Year!

bebejones · 09/01/2010 10:38

Good Luck Pidgin, hope you are not 'not preventing pregnancy' for too long!

loopylou2 · 10/01/2010 20:06

Oh jeez tanmu 82 i think that nursery gallery website is going to have to go on my favourites list!!!

Kayzr · 11/01/2010 11:14

Morning everyone,

My god August seems miles away!!! But I do finish my pill on Thursday so then I can start tracking my cycle so come August I should know what is going on.

I have lost 4lb this week so my goal of losing as much as possible by August is a little bit closer.

Tanmu82 That website is in my favourites too. We only have a tiny room that can be a nursery and DS2 is in there at the minute. We're going to move him in with DS1 soonish.

I also have a list of baby names and I am always looking for more!!

Good luck Pidgin

bebejones · 11/01/2010 11:21

May seems an age away to me too, don't think I'd make it to August! You must be very restrained!

DD will be 2 in August but we are experiencing the terrible 2's now I think, she is so moody & stroppy & naughty! Says 'No' to everything & screams if you try and get her to do it/eat it anyway! Also doing lots of biting at the moment (only me though)...remind me again why I want another one!

Tanmu - have tried looking at the website on my laptop but screen not big enough & have to keep scrolling which is annoying! Will try on the PC later! I'm already planning what the nursery for DC2 will be like, just got to move DD out of it first...oh and get PG & have DC2!

Kayzr · 11/01/2010 11:44

Bebe you want another because they are gorgeous. My boys are so funny together and they are lovely to watch.

I'm not sure how I will make it until august. Lots of willpower.

wellieboots · 11/01/2010 19:35

I have been so encouraged by reading this thread! We were meant to start ttc Nov/Dec, but this has changed to end of March (which admittedly isn't too long). I have been going mad, because we hadn't agreed end of March until yesterday, hubby thought I knew that's what he was thinking, but I didn't! Two of my really good friends have just had their DC2 in the last couple of weeks - within 3 days of each other *they had the same due date) and I had always thought that we would be ttc by the time their DCs came, and we're not, and it's been really hard! I feel sane again after realising that I'm not the only one who for various good reasons has to wait a bit! thanks for the support.

tanmu82 · 11/01/2010 20:01

loopylou, kayzr, bebejones I have already started researching the items that I like from each of my favourite themed rooms on the site...we will move home in the summer so some of the ideas I will get to use for my DS and DD as they will finally get a room of their own....I am going to really go to town...maybe that'll hold off the broodyness somewhat

As for babynames, I have a list of names I like but DH always hates them! He likes such boring, everyday names and won't budge

Kayzr · 11/01/2010 20:31

My baby name list is really quite poncey. Most of it is Greek names as I love Ancient Greek history. I love the name Daphne but DS1 is Freddie so we can't use it.
