Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

I've got some I was given, so shall try them in a fortnight and see what it says. Hopefully the cycle will settle down to something more normal.

Kaylo · 05/08/2009 22:45

just posted on the May thread to you medee xxx

MrsPigeon · 06/08/2009 07:41

Congrats Medee! Mine was 42 days I think, maybe we can start a long cycles club?! Are the OPKs easy to use?

AddictedtoCrunchies · 06/08/2009 09:52

what's ewcm?

CurlyCasper · 06/08/2009 12:34

egg white cervical mucus - the stuff that means you're fertile (provides a good environment for egg and sperm to hook up!) We're supposed to have a few days of it just before and during ovulation

Hollyoaks · 06/08/2009 14:08

Hi ladies, I'm glad my cm information has been of use to some of you, it really is a clear sign of ovulation if you get used to tracking it.

Medee congratulations on af, mine was a week late last month and its so frustrating. We were 'practising' the rhythm method so wouldnt be devastated if I had been pg but it was nice to know that I predicted the safe parts of my cycle to do the deed.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 06/08/2009 16:25

Cool thanks very much. I'll get it in the end I'm sure.

So when I get the eggy stuff is when I'm good to go..is that right

I will be watching carefully from now - hopefully I'll be able to spot some sort of pattern by the time we ttc

Kaylo · 09/08/2009 20:13

Hey where've you all gone?

I've only got 3 more days to wait til AF then only a week after that I'll be good to go!! 10/11 days til I can TTC!! I can barely contain myself

I hope you're all well and having a lovely weekend.

CurlyCasper · 09/08/2009 20:18

Been away for weekend.

So excited for you kaylo, not long now and you'll be unstoppable.

Nothing to report here. take care all

Medee · 09/08/2009 20:20

evening all. Well first "period", if I can call it that seems to be at an end, so shall get shagging, and see what happens this month!

Hobnob76 · 09/08/2009 22:21

Aww fab news Kaylo!

I've been away for the weekend too. Enjoyed copious amounts of alcohol, making the most of it while I still can!

Oooh good news Medee

Hi Ladies,

I hope I can join you - I recently posted a 'how do you know when the right time to start TTC is?' thread and got some fantastic advice and interesting stories, so Im sticking with MN! This thread seemed a good one for me, feeling possible broodiness but mainly fear and uncertainty and also a possible unhealthy interest in TTC stuff.

Thinking of going to the fertility/contraception specialist at my docs to have a preconception discussion, as recommended earlier. Been on pill for 16 blissful years so may need help for cold turkey....

MrsDmamee · 10/08/2009 23:16

hey all,
bought my folic acid yesterday meant to get it weeks ago..but i felt funny last time i was in chemist..
i seen folic acid there but had my script for last month of pill before TTC time!! so i didnt get it.

Hollyoaks · 11/08/2009 08:53

Hi all, I thought this thread had died as its not appearing in the 'I'm on' section .

Anyway its exciting times for those nearly at ttc time, not long for me now . af due 22nd (I say with crossed fingers) and then off we go!

Welcome honeypetal All of those feelings you have are so normal, Ifeel the same and this is second time around for me. As for trying to find the 'right time', I don't know if it exists. We have financial issues as dh is self-employed within the building sector so work is slow, I will have to reduce my hours at work further, and two of my family members who are regular babysitters when I'm at work have changing circumstances which may mean I'll have to pay for childcare (eek thinking of the cost). However, we want a second dc and don't want the age gap to be too big so we're going for it and can't wait (but can because I'm terrified).

Do you know when you will begin ttc?

Hobnob sounds like you had a good weekend, very jealous

Kaylo · 11/08/2009 23:01

Hi everyone - hope you're all well.

Not much to report here - AF due tomorrow then just a week to wait til BD'athon commences

Hope you won't boot me off when I'm not 'waiting to conceive' anymore

xxx

kalo12 · 11/08/2009 23:03

kaylo, you've nicked my name

MrsPigeon · 12/08/2009 07:48

Hi ladies and welcome to Honeypetal.

Glad AF showed up Medee! I read somewhere that apparently 40+ days is totally normal for first cycle, which reassured me.

And very excited for you Kaylo! Are you off and TTC'ing now? (Not right now maybe, but you know what I mean )

I met a friend who is TTC'ing the other night and she told me about a book called Taking Control of Your Fertility - helped her start charting temps and so on, I have a copy arriving via Amazon today, plus a thermometer! Anyone else been taking temperatures?

Hope you are all well.

CurlyCasper · 12/08/2009 07:53

Morning, and welcome to honeypetal Mrsp I'm temping - has been a bit wonky, but slowly seeing a pattern when combined with monitoring CM and taking other factors into account.

Off to the docs today for the follow-up to my rubella test. Will reveal all when I get back...

HoneyPetal · 12/08/2009 08:37

Morning!

Thanks for all the welcomes!

Went to docs yesterday about an non-TTC issue and casually mentioned making an appointment to discuss TTC. She said 'For Gods Sake dont come off the pill unless you are sure you want to get pregnant' and then outright asked me 'Do you want to get pregnant?' to which I just made weird squeeky noises. Need to get this sorted!

She did say it doesnt matter how long Ive been on the pill, AF could return in a month or in 6 months, it just depend on the individual rather than the duration of pill-popping - anyone with any experience of this?

Hollyoaks · 12/08/2009 08:51

Morning, honeypetal it took my af 6 months to return after coming off microgynon but then I was pg within one month .

I didnt come off the pill until I was ready to get pg which made the 6 month wait very frustrating! Ihavent gone back on it since and my cycle is now usually pretty predictable. My advice would be to come off it now and get your cycle into a regular pattern before ttc just in case (but thats just what I would do). Would an unexpected pg be that bad?

HoneyPetal · 12/08/2009 09:13

Hi Hollyoaks and thanks for the info. Im on Femodette, a 'lower dose' version of Femodene, I think. I havent ovulated for 16 years so am quite worried that AF may have given me up for good! Six months seems a hell of a long time to wait when you are ready to start TTC, must have been hard for you.

Im seriously considering coming off the pill to see if I even have any ovaries. My regular doctor has warned me that he has seen many 'condom babies' as he called them, so I take your point about an unexpected pg! As to whether it would be that bad, my head says 'er, yes' but my heart says 'perhaps not'....

MrsPigeon · 12/08/2009 09:46

Hi Honeypetal just to say there are lots of people on here in the same position. I came off the pill in June and had to wait a long time for my first period. It did turn up eventually though. I'm now halfway through the next cycle and really hoping AF turns up at the right time this time. I don't know if I'm ovulating but I sort of suspect maybe not yet (although I only have CM to go on).

I know doctors tend towards the position of your GP - but I really wanted to have a couple of months to get my cycle straight before TTC. It also felt like a step in the right direction, if that makes sense. Plus, I think there's a strong argument for getting a sense of your own cycle and when you OV before you TTC. OK, so 'condom babies' happen, but if you know when you're fertile, then surely you have a better chance of controlling fertility, iyswim? I was on the pill ten years and really ready to come off, so I feel like a couple of months of being really careful with condoms if worth it to get my periods back. Like you I was slightly worried my ovaries might just have disappeared given the decade out of use!

Mrs P x

HoneyPetal · 12/08/2009 10:24

Thanks MrsP, Ive been alone in my head with all of this for ages so its great to talk to other people who understand or are going through the same things.

I really know what you mean about coming off the pill being a step in the right direction. The baby issue is such a big one that it helps to break it down into more manageable chunks, for me anyway. Im a combination of curious and nervous to see if I even function as a healthy woman after so long, IYKWIM.

Hobnob76 · 12/08/2009 11:38

Hi there HoneyPetal, welcome! I've had similiar feelings and worries to you. I was on Femodene for nearly 15 yrs, I came off mid June, had my pill break bleed as normal, then 30 days later had a 'normal' period, which was much more painful than a pill break bleed. I should be due AF again this weekend by my reckoning, we shall see! We're going to be TTC around December this year, and I wanted to come off my pill earlier to get to know my cycles etc. I've found it very useful and feel like I'm really getting to know my body too.

CurlyCasper Hope your docs appt goes well!

MrsDmamme I know what you mean about taking the pill and taking folic acid, it felt really strange for me at first to be taking a pill to make a healthier baby and yet taking a pill to stop me making a baby, weird!
