Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

kaylo- yes it is an option so i think i might wait till end of pill packet, use other protection and wait for thing to settle.

Yorky · 17/07/2009 19:51

Well nothing exciting here.
AF has just about finished, so short and light.
DH was sent home ill on Wednesday and has been shut in the spare room or the loo ever since. Actually had doc out to him yesterday but seems a bit better today

Glad you enjoyed the HP film, would love to think we could get out in an evening to see it. DH is trying to convince me that DS is old enough to go to see Ice Age3 with us!

rimmer08 · 18/07/2009 08:57

about swine flu, what u said medee has made me think- especially as i am a teacher. i dont know if u have seen the news today but they are warning that the pandemic may peak in aug/sept when students go back so the gov are putting out a warning that hols may be extended by a MONTH if it gets worse. i personally think this is scare mongering but when u consider that in the space of a week two sixth formers i work with have been v ill with it is makes u think. i dont think it will put me off but i will see what happens re, new development as workng in a school does make u vylnerable to catching all sorts. dont even know if u can take the swine flu meds if u are pregnant - does anybody else know this?

rimmer08 · 18/07/2009 09:01

i just looked it up on nhs direct and it says that there is an inhalant med that preg women can take. however, it says that it is bnot recommended for people who have breathing problems. this prsents 2 difficulties.

  1. what if u have athsma?
  2. heavily preg women can experience shortness of breath.

interesting- what do others think?

Hobnob76 · 18/07/2009 10:50

I personally think the media has been massively scaremongering with this swine flu story tbh. Having said that my DH is currently on the sofa fast asleep, having been this morning diagnosed with suspected swime flu! He's had aches and pains, a bad sore throat, headache and sore chest. His symptoms matched a few on the NHS website, so when we rang the out of hours doc they've prescribed a 5 day course of Tamiflu. If you're pregnant as you say *rimmer088, there is an inhaler called Relenza to take. DH works for the NHS as has been told to stay off work for a week as a precaution, they're not testing anymore round here, just go by the symptoms. He doesn't seem massively ill with it (but being a man, he is of course dying!).

I have asthma too, but I'm of the opinion that if I get it, I get it tbh. I'll have the flu jab that I normally get offered in winter too.

Well my news, after a 30/31 day cycle, first off the pill my period has arrived! I'm quite pleased really as I thought I'd be one of the unlucky few who's periods take ages to return after being on the pill!

OP posts:
Medee · 18/07/2009 11:04

good news, Hobnob, re your period, less so about the flu-infected husband!

My personal views are that I am generally quite healthy, had the winter flu jab last year (though I know it is different strains), it's not hit too hard where I am yet, and who knows how long it will take to get pregnant anyway. I think there is an element of scaremongering, and this vague "underlying health conditions" statement is less than satisfactory.

rimmer08 · 18/07/2009 12:16

me too hobnob (love the name btw) if i get it i get it, the media does scremonger. the only reason i worry is because i work in a school. i didnt have the winter flu jab, didnt think it was worth it as have only had flu once, generally people thinkthey have flu when all they have is a cold. also hobnob, i hope i am as lucky about my periods too but from what i remember used to get horrendous period pains and heavy flow (TMI?)

Kaylo · 18/07/2009 14:07

Hi

It's not going to put me off TTC - I hope that doesn't sound irresponsible but I agree that a lot of the info floating around is there to scare us - the fact that there is a treatment in place for pg women definitely settles me a little. And like rimmer said - who knows how long it's going to take to catch on anyway.

Hope you're all well xx

Hobnob76 · 19/07/2009 11:58

rimmer My periods were actually quite heavy and painful whilst on the pill anyway, they've got worse with age! I was in alot of pain last night, 2 lots of paracetamol throughout the day didn't help one bit. I put a warm microwavable wheat bag on my tummy last night and that had an instant effect, felt so much better after that. I have to say I only seem to have light flow atm, whereas usually on the pill it'd be so much heavier for the few day or two.

Swine flu isn't going to stop me TTC when the time comes either, like others have said we don't know how long it will take to actually get pg, I'm not going to waste time worrying about it!

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 19/07/2009 13:27

Yup - swine flu will not stop me (I hope). I was immuno-suppressed, but that was because of the meds I have stopped taking in order to TTC, so at least I should be able to fight it better if it happens.

Hobnob Mine were horrendous before the pill (heavy, painful and full 7 days) and still not pleasant on it ( a little lighter and only about 5 days). This one has been weird by contrast. Excrutiating/heavy-ish for 2 days, now faded to no pain and v little flow. Bizarre! Shame there's no way of telling if there was actually an egg in there...

If my next couple of cycles are as long as the last. I'm now looking at TTC in early October, cause won't have had three months off meds in the early sept window. It's only a few days later than expected, but moving my TTC date into a whole new month makes it seem so much further off

MrsDmamee · 19/07/2009 13:53

Hi all need to mumsnet... DH and I have decided to have DC#3, but as yet have to wait to TTC , so i can come off pill, get up to date smear and stop anxiety tabs too, so at this stage it could be 3 or 4 months before we actually get down to to actually TTC-ING!! but its is exciting anyways to have a little secret!
We got married 8 months ago and have a DS(3 yrs old) and ive a DS(12 yrs old). And we celebrate 10 years together early 2010 so a new baby will be a great present for us both!

MrsDmamee · 19/07/2009 13:54

new to

Kaylo · 19/07/2009 14:09

HI everyone Welcome MrsD How are you?
Very exciting stuff happening for you and I agree - a bfp would be a fantastic celebration gift for you!

Hobnob - those wheat bags are worth a million!! All our family has one each because we're almost all opposed to medication (I refer only to optional medication here such as paracetamol etc).

Even in labour I had only gas and air, didn't even use that until I was 8cms!!

Curly Hopefully your cycles will settle into a nice normal cycle soon for you. I know exactly what you mean about the whole new month thing - it really makes it sound another lifetime away!!

xxx

Kaylo · 19/07/2009 14:14

I totally made that sound wrong in my last post re medication.

I'm not totally opposed to it - I just don't like using tablets to ease an achy foot, mild headache, splinter etc. My brother does - he can go through a box in 2-3 days (another story - he has a thing for tablets and it's not good! He's an idiot! and a waste of space at times!!!)

Anyway.

Whats everyone up to? I'm trying to enjoy my time at home today as I'm back at work tomorrow so will be back to working 12-9 every day

Wish I could be a stay at home mum. DH won't let me. Don't suppose anyone knows of work from home jobs that aren't scams??

xx

MrsDmamee · 19/07/2009 14:18

Thanks Kaylo! im good, feel relived that we have finally decided: why not have #3 as we /mainly me, were back and forth with the idea over the past year. SIL is pg with her 1st(14 weeks) , so i hope i can join her on the pg bus soon!!!

Medee · 19/07/2009 16:27

welcome MrsD!

pigleychez · 19/07/2009 16:52

Can I Join you ladies...

DH and I have agreed that we will start TTC number 2 in a few months.
We have just moved house and need to get a few things fixed/sorted before we think about anything else.

We have a DD who is 1 on Friday!! So mega broody. My little baby is growing up To make things worse she learnt to walk last week and now toddles around the house making her look even more grown up!

rimmer08 · 19/07/2009 17:08

ooh its like a club!! i love this.

Kaylo · 19/07/2009 18:57

MrsD Fingers crossed we'll all be on that bus before long

Hi pigley nothing like a baby growing up to make you broody! Thats what happened with me - my kids are 3(ds) and 4(dd). I've been broody for ages but have only recently bribed forced convinced dh that sometime soon would be a good time.
So September it is for us

Hi medee, Hi rimmer
Hows you guys?

Wheres everyone else I wonder...

Hobnob76 · 19/07/2009 22:37

Welcome MrsD I agree its nice to have a little secret. Hope its not long til you get your BFP!

Kaylo I know what you mean about the medication thing, I hate taking tablets at the best of times, have probs swallowing them, so if I can avoid taking them I do. The wheat bag has been an absolute god send! I love it! A little boy in my class bought me it as a thank you present at the end of term, thank god he did!

Curly Hope your periods manage to sort themselves for you, there's nothing worse, I feel so miserable when they're painful.

Welcome to pigleychez too! Aren't they gorgeous at this age though, my friend has one at this age, she's just lovely and so interesting to be with too!

OP posts:
rimmer08 · 20/07/2009 08:52

quick q - what does BFP mean?

MrsDmamee · 20/07/2009 12:19

thanks all for the warm welcome.

Hobnob76 · 20/07/2009 12:31

It means Big Fat Positive pregnancy test rimmer

You're welcome! MrsD

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 20/07/2009 13:10

welcome pigley and mrsD and thanks kaylo and Hob for the nice wishes.

Period from hell was indeed short and is over woo hoooo! No additional drugs taken, but then I'm pretty dozed up anyway. Found out last week I can take my regular ibuprofen right up to TTC so no need to be in pain until then, and I'm not feeling any worse yet from having come off the other arthritis drugs. I'm afraid I cannot join some of the others in the medication-free club, although I have lavender heat bags that do provide welcome additional relief.

Had bloods done today to check where my bodies at with it all, plus to check my rubella status. All the little steps that make me feel I'm at least doing something towards the TTC effort.

happy Monday all - back to work now...

CurlyCasper · 20/07/2009 13:14

Ok I meant "where my body's at", I do not have two bodies (or more for that matter)
