Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

hi guys,

help, please! i've never been on this site before.

my partner and i have been trying for several months now, and i'm addicted to these kind of sites, reading other peoples symptoms etc. this is the first time i've posted on one tho.

every month i talk myself into "symptoms" and every month i am dissapointed.

this time though, it does feel different. i'm having the most vivid and random dreams, about people and places i havn't seen for years. i'm out of my mind horny, and for the last few days, had a strange ache in my tummy, like a tugging feeling, that today has spread right across my back, and sides. i have a kind of wave of nausea every half hour or so, though only mildly, and i havn't been sick. my last period began friday 3rd, and ended thursday 9th, so i have quite a while until my next period is due, and i have irregular periods anyway, so i wouldn't neccesarily know i'm late. have had neg test yesterday, and again this morning. does anybody have any advice for me? when should i be testing?

Medee · 13/07/2009 17:20

Hi Imogen! Fingers crossed it is the good news you are hoping for. This is the waiting room here on this thread, none of us is actually at the same stage as you yet. But some of our residents are on #2 or #3, so might be able to help. Also, if you explore the rest of "Conception" folder, you'll find other people more knowledgeable with the symptoms of being pregnant.

Kayzr · 13/07/2009 17:29

imogen, Unless you ovulate very early, i would say you haven't ovulated yet so can not be pregnant. i wouldn't be testing until 1st Aug.

Yorky · 13/07/2009 19:29

Hi Imogen, I really don't think you're pregnant given the dates you've said. The 1st day of your cycle is when your period starts (CD1) and the average woman ovulates 14 days after that, give or take. This is your most fertile time. So unless you are very unlucky and, like my friend did, have an ectopic pg which she didn't discover until after her period which had come, so she thought, as normal. But if you have already done a test which is negative, thats very unlikely. I found I had loads of symptoms about the middle of the month, but when I was actually pg I would never had noticed if I hadn't been watching for my period to start - not a symptoms to be seen! Good luck and keep chatting!

Curly we enjoyed it until the red arrows came in low and loud from behind DS and scared him! DD slept through them!

Yorky · 13/07/2009 19:32

Just realised how patronising that last post sounded, I'm sorry Imogen. You do say your periods are irregular which makes it much harder to work out when is the 'right' time which can get really frustrating. There are lots of threads on here about temperature charting and watching cervical mcus so you can tune into your bodies natural clues of when is a good time

medee- think just the one!!

Medee · 13/07/2009 22:02

rimmer08 · 14/07/2009 18:30

only child myself, but i am sure i will get the 'it'll be lonely ' speach from mil!

rimmer08 · 14/07/2009 18:38

i have just realised thati have been on the pill for 14 years and have NO idea what it is like to have a normal period!! how will i know??

Yorky · 14/07/2009 20:01

Don't worry rimmer, I had the implant in and hadn't had a period for about 5yrs! How much did I want to get pregnant, they never bothered me before but then I realised how much I enjoyed not having them!

CurlyCasper · 14/07/2009 20:03

rimmer I've got that feeling too, after 13 years. CD 32 and I'm still waiting for a period to arrive. god knows what will be going on.

saw GP today. all sorted with coming off the meds, having my rubella etc checked and was told to use condoms during the wait till meds out of system. at least two out of three were useful

Medee · 14/07/2009 20:20

it was 10 years for me - still waiting to see what my cycle is. Every little squeak and creak is being recorded.

Hobnob76 · 14/07/2009 22:58

rimmer08 I was on the pill for over 14 yrs and wondered too as I was only 18 when I went on the pill, I can't remember what periods were like before I went on it!

Medee Glad I'm not the only one recording every ache etc Hubs thinks I'm mad! I think its very sensible, so we can work out what's normal for us. I think my period should be due any day now as had OV pains about 2 weeks ago.

rimmer08 · 15/07/2009 14:40

thanks for the feedback!! also wondering on average how long does it take peole to get pregnant when they have been on the pill for that long and also do you have to have a period first and get your cycle sorted out? sorry about all the q's but am new to this!!

CurlyCasper · 15/07/2009 17:11

rimmer been wondering all this myself, but from what I've read so far it seems like a very individual thing. Some girls not ovulating for a while after stopping pill, some OV but with irregular cycles so stuffed when it comes to pin-pointing fertile days, and some who seem to get a BFP before even really thinking about it. Well, I suppose some people get PG while on the pill...

Looks like the key message is to just keep doing it no matter what!

BTW, when I mentioned to my mum that I'd been on the pill for 13 years, there was silence on the phone and I could hear her mentally counting back...

CD33 and still waiting... but at least I'm seeing Harry Potter tonight!

queenrollo · 15/07/2009 17:30

hi all

i'd been on the pill for 12 years when i came off to TTC my ds. I stopped taking it in the March, no period until the June and i was panicking that my body was broken! My periods never settled into a regular cycle but i got pregnant that December. It was the uncertainty about what my body was doing that led me to mumsnet.

I'm back on the pill now, with a different DP and DS is nearly 4. We're hoping to TTC at some point in the near future but not sure quite when yet, maybe spring next year. I am very broody as is DP (he has no children yet but adores my son) but we're waiting for life to settle down a bit first. I'll probably lurk around here in the meantime.

Yorky · 15/07/2009 18:19

I know 3 people who got pg first month off the pill! but drs and mws like you to give the chemicals time to get out of your system, and when you've got a regular pattern they have a better chance of working your dates out!

rimmer08 · 15/07/2009 18:37

thanks all two and a half packets to go!!

Kaylo · 16/07/2009 18:27

Hey everyone - all ok?

Hi queenrollo welcome to the WTC thread.

Curly How did you find Hsrry Potter - I went to see it last night in Wakefield and Chanelle Hayes was there from BigBrother. She's soooo small!!

Thought the film was god but cos I'm a book freak I thought it could have been better. Thats just me tho - I was the same with Twilight

Sounds like quite a few people are close to getting started with this TTC business - I'm hoping to start around 20th(ish) August so only about 4 weeks to go Am sooooo excited. Hoping to catch on first month so can go to Barcelona for anniversary with a big huge secret

Catch u all later xxxx Hope everyone is well

CurlyCasper · 16/07/2009 19:03

kaylo I loved the film. However it did lack the whole explanation of the half-blood prince, which is pretty poor considering the title. and they made mission at the end a bit short and there's something else that I'm sure didn't happen till the final book, but i'd have to check. But otherwise loads of laughs and a few tears! I just love the whole thing

I'm excited for your for August! About to try and work my cycle out. Finally got AF after CD 33. And now wish I hadn't wanted it so much - in agony!

rimmer if you are worried about getting back to normal, you could stop pill at end of current packet and use other protection. That way you'll know your natural body better when trying. In a way my three month wait for other reasons had been good, cos I've got time to get to know my cycle. (and God knows I need it! x

Kaylo · 17/07/2009 10:34

Curly Deary me - just read my last post...well done for deciphering it all pmsl. Sooo many sp mistakes I'm terrible at typing!!
You've got me wondering now about the bit that should have been in last book!! It's been a while since I read them and all the story has kind of blended into one now so I can't distinguish between the books anymore (apart from the obvious bits) I agree tho that thay could have explained the title a bit more since theres a story behind that as well.

How old did Maggie Smith look???

Am kind of glad you got AF but I'm sorry you're in so much pain - anadin works a treat for me, maybe it will work for you too? I'm on CD3 and AF left yesterday so I feel quite lucky - my cycle is only 28/29 days long and AF only stays 2-3days

ONLY ONE MORE CYCLE TO GO
YIPEEEEEEE

Where is everyone???

Rimmer I agree with Curly about perhaps considering others contraceptive methods to give you a chance to work out your cycle pattern again - is this an option for you?

I hope the lack of peeps on here is cos you all have exciting stories to come back and tell us Have fun everyone, hope you're all well - xxxxx

Hobnob76 · 17/07/2009 11:07

Kaylo nope nothing to report here, I'm still waiting for my period to arrive! First month off pill so not sure what to expect. I tried using the conception tool on here and if I was to have a 28 day cycle then my period should have arrived yesterday, but nothing!

Medee · 17/07/2009 12:53

really stupid question, but is anyone considering delaying TTC due to the extra risk to pregnant women from swine flu?
