fairyanne · 08/02/2009 18:00

Hi Everyone,

first of all congrats Alta!! Antdamm I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, have you been to the doctor?? Joy don't forget early pg can feel like AF too so don't give up hope as one month.....

About ovulation tests, I used the expensive Clear Blue one at first and it detected absolutely nothing so Blues I totally feel for you as I too had those symptoms. I had a big panic too and went to the GP..who sent me away. They said that if you are having regular AF everything is fine as far as they can tell without tests. My best friend is a gynecologist too and she said the same.

Anyway I got my tests from Ebay. I got a pack of pre seed, 15 ov tests and 5 preg tests (10mui so v v sensitive) for about £10 (you can vary the number of ov and pg tests to what you want up to a number of 20). These were the ov tests that actually showed up so I wondered if they are extra sensitive too? Also it showed up on day 9, 5 days earlier than I was expecting! So its possible if you are not going for the blanket effect that you are trying on the wrong days???.... I was!!

oneyummymummy · 08/02/2009 20:20

Congratulations to alter this thread seems to spread baby dust galore!!

Glad you had a good time joy and at least relaxed a little! Good luck

ant sorry to hear about your BFN, I dont have much experience with positives then negatives after, have you tried looking for other threads or starting a new one in conception topic, others may have had similar experience!? Are you using CB or other tests?

oneyummymummy · 08/02/2009 20:25

Aggghhh...Ive missed this page!!

Everyone has been busy today!

Hi bubble isn't it just horrible when others in the family are TTC too, it almost feels like a race!

fairy thanks for advice re: ov tests, I had a look on baby mad too, they seem to be cheaper on e-bay tho, but I dant have e-bay account!

Joy27 · 09/02/2009 08:54

Morning all.

bubble I can totally appreciate your weird feelings re family member ttc. yummy is right- is does feel like a race (weirdly).

Well I'm now on CD31. Last month this was doomsday, but so far, no visual signs of af. I feel a gloomy sense of inevitablity rather than excitement. Tbh I'd rather get my period on day 26 if I'm going to get it, rather than live in false hope.

Right, I might need a good virtual slap for reading too much into this, but humour me for a moment: in the middle of last night I had a terrible pain down below for around 20 mins- so bad I almost woke my partner up. It did not feel like normal af cramps, the pain was much more localised (v small area of pain rather than generalisted cramping) and lower down, almost like it was in my, er, lady garden. God I hate these eupemisms but also can't keep straight face typing "vulva" or similar.

Now, is this a water infection, a bad case of the mumzillas, or maybe (whispers) a sign of pregnancy? And if so, what would it be? Have been very good about not spotting symptoms so far, but appear to have caved. Talk some sense into me please!

amyboo · 09/02/2009 08:56

Hello, I'm a newbie on here. I'm 28 (29 next week) and me and the husband started ttc in January. I'm on cycle 2 now, having been on the pill for 10 years (gulp) before.

Naive I know, but I was kinda hoping that I'd get pregnant really quickly. It's taken us both so long to take the decision to start a family, that I feel now I've made the decision it should just happen! Since reading around this site, I've realised it may take some time.... I'm not a very patient person, so I'm hoping it happens sooner rather than later.

Like a couple of you on here, I'd be the first person in my friendship group to have a baby. I'm British but living in Belgium, with family in France and the UK, so I'm quite scared by the prospect of having a baby in some ways - we'd be having to cope all on our own....

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello, and join in. I'm due to ovulate around now, so am hoping this might be the cycle...

P.S - sorry if I don't use all the right abbreviations - I couldn't figure them all out!

Joy27 · 09/02/2009 09:22

Fuck it.

That'll learn me to speak too soon.
My period is here. Whyohwhyohwhy.

(Excuse my language btw)

Oh and welcome Amy. Good luck ttc. Who knows, it could happen straight away for you- fingers crossed.

Hey ladies,

Havent been to see GP yet as they cost a bomb here. Be like throwing 50pounds away just for a chat - no guarantees that they would/or could do anything about it. I think I will wait til mid next week, as I will be 4wks late then and they might take me more seriously??

I dont know what to do, I've never experienced anything ike this before. I've never been more late than 4days in my life. Has anyone else had a dodgy cycle like this before?? bubble I see that you are havinga long cycle with no BFP, has this happened to you before?

joy sorry to hear the witch got ya, good luck for next month.

Babydust to all. xx

Joy27 · 09/02/2009 14:47

Antdamn, I have had a fair amount of cycle dodginess since coming off the pill, but not exactly as you've experienced. I have to say that the last time I had any real weirdness, I was pregnant (but miscarried). I know you've done tests so it seems you have ruled this out. Having said that, and at the risk of confusing you further, I did have a neg test at 3-4 weeks pg, which was later contradicted by positive results in a GP's test.

Whatever is happening, I hope it sorts itself out soon. I think you're right that you will be taken seriously at 4 weeks late. How terrible that a trip to the GP is so expensive- I can't fathom paying for health care, and forget how lucky we are in the UK to have the NHS.

bubblebell1 · 09/02/2009 14:53

Hey all!

welcome amy i hope that you are lucky this cycle.

joy sorry AF got you i hope you get a bfp soon... perhaps try something different this month (thats if your not already trying everything?)that might keep you thinking positive. like your doing something to help ttc.. i hate the fact that its out of my control.

ant My last cycle was 68 days this is 37 and counting. i finished the contraceptive pill in oct and didnt get af til jan. i went to the dr then and they fobbed me off but as af hasnt arrived again they are now sending me for blood tests. (which i had today) they are checking thyroid function, testosterone, progesterone, FSH, LH, SHBG and oestradiol. (god knows what that is)They are checking for PCOS. i am in the meantime dieting and taking agnus castus to try and regulate my periods. i know how frustrating it can be to go from regular cycles to sporadic and painfull bleeding. perhaps wait and see if AF turns up but you know your body and its worth speaking to someone who knows their stuff.
Is this your first cycle without birthcontrol? how regular were your periods before? have you had any life style changes? (put on weight)I found that going armed with information helped speed up their decision to help me.

Josie22 · 09/02/2009 15:22

Hi All
Wanted to add my info but not sure what cd and ucl mean?? Please can someone let me know - this is all new to me!

Josie22 TTC1 cycle1

Been cramping for the last six days which was hoping could be implantation cramps (as never really get cramps for AF) but took a pregnancy test yesterday (6 days early!) and it was negative. Still going to be optimistic as probably too early anyway - me and dh just getting overexcited! AF due on Thursday (if my cycle this month is 21 days as it varies between 21 - 24).

Would love to know opinions on whether to start ovulation tests or temping? Have looked at ovulation kits but they seem so expensive and wanted to know if it was worth the cost.

On another note, was at a friend's house on Sat night and decided I wouldn't drink just in case (plus just didn't feel like it either - which is odd for me!). Realised how difficult its going to be not drinking as could almost sense everyone thinking that I must be pregnant. Ended up making a big joke about how since I got married, if I don't drink everyone supposes that I'm pregnant and they were all like 'well we did wonder!' Anyone got any tips/excuses that you use for not drinking?

Babydust to all!

Antdamm · 09/02/2009 15:26

hi,

thanks for your support.
bubble - I had the contraceptive implant for three years. I had periods(albeit light ones) every month on schedule. Before that they were regular also - 28days usually. To my knowledge, I have been late three times in my life - once was due to weight loss - sorted itself out again though. Once due to the implant getting itself sorted and the third time was when I was PG with my son.

When the implant expired - not been removed yet as I am not willing to pay 190euro!!! to have it removed - have been assured it will cause me no harm and will be getting it removed first week in march in Scotland) Where was I..... oh yeah, ive had no side effects from it stopping, my first visit from AF was bang on time. This was in October, so i dont think that is a factor - but i could be wrong.

As for lifestyle changes - I havent really had any, we moved to Ireland in July and I suppose I have lost weight since then but not enough to upset my AF .

Sorry, Ive rattled on a bit .....

bubblebell1 · 09/02/2009 15:55

ant i dont know about the implant, have you looked it up online to see if what you are experiencing is normal?u get lucky soon do you think that it still being inside you it could be releasing small amounts of the hormone? not enough for it to be used as contraception but enough to mess up your hormone levels?

josie cd is cycle day cd 1 the first day of your last period. ucl is usual cycle length. you can buy cheap ovulation tests from babymad.com i wouldnt reccommend using them until your next cycle and the same goes with temping. start temping on cd1 and opks on cd10. google deannas plan it may help or fertility friend is good too good luck and i hope you get a BFP soon.

i always drive when we go out so use that excuse when someone asks why im not drinking. ive told my family and friends we are ttc so they dont really ask but i suppose saying your on anti bs or your tired could work.

fairyanne · 09/02/2009 20:17

ant, I had my implant out in October last year to start TTC. It was my second implant and I too had AF (light) throughout although they were a bit irregular. I am on cycle 4 after its removal. I have had 2 cycles of 29 days and 1 of 31 days. The first month was a bit mixed due to efects wearing off but GP who removed it assured me effects wear off within a few days however I'm not sure that this is the case given that the pill, which supposedly has the same hormone content can take a while.

bubble It sounds like you are having a stressful, frustrating and confusing time of it so lots of luck I hope everything is fine with the tests

Josie, I got my ov tests on ebay (see previous posts, can't remember the shop but can find out). Has ben worth it for me (although I am probable now on 2ww). My ov test has been showing +ve since Friday, has anyone else had this experience as I thought it was only meant to show up for 2 days?? UCL is usual cycle lenght.

Joy, gutted for you! so annoying, I hate he way our bodies play tricks like that. sneding hugs and dust for this coming month. I'm trying to think it must happen some time....

oh and for all those into relaxation (if you are as stressed as I have been, I definately recommend massage treat (especially as it could be a gift for Valentines!) or reflexology. Not convinced about the evidence base relating to pg but its a nice treat and helps to de stress, forget about everything for an hour which can only help .

wow sorry I've really gone on...

fairyanne · 09/02/2009 20:22

oh and sorry for my very bad spelling...watching Eastenders at the same time!!

Joy27 · 09/02/2009 22:52

fairyanne there's no such thing as "going on" here!

Thanks for your kind words. I've just had a large and delicious nightcap (on a monday too- how decadent), and I'm taking my cramp-ridden bod up to bed.

Maybe next month eh girls?

It would be lovely if somebody got a BFP... anyone waiting to test?

bubblebell1 · 10/02/2009 08:33

Morning Girls!

how are you all today?

joy im sure you will get lucky soon.. like i said, try and do something a lil different to keep focused.
When i tried for DCs 1 & 2 i didnt have a clue about my body we just did the deed everyday and i was pregnant first month both times. I know that would be difficult for you joy? but perhaps you could master the art of quick and quiet 1s so as not to disturb your housemate?? As for me.. well im too tired to manage more than a couple of times a week... if and when i start ovulating i am going to try the everyday lark but until then i am taking it easy.

BlackCherry · 10/02/2009 14:31

Hi girls,
I've not been able to read all the way back but I'll say Hello! to all the new people and to Joy, i'm so sorry af showed up.

I haven't been on here in a couple of weeks as I've had a terrible chest infection and my pc is on the blink. I'm using an ancient laptop to post this..... you see, af was due yesterday and still no sign today, took a test at lunchtime and it's a BFP. WOW! I'm in so much shock. I didn't think I'd be shock but I am! What's my next step, what do I do now?! Should I go to the doctor now or wait?? Eeek this is so scary, but good scary -exciting! i'm trying not to get too excited though as it's early days.
Baby dust to everyone - if it can happen for me, it will happen for you! xx

oneyummymummy · 10/02/2009 14:48

Congratulations blackcherry

Do you know when last af was/how many weeks you are?

If not then pop along to dr and they can send you for early scan.

oneyummymummy · 10/02/2009 14:49

I have to catch up on rest of thread tonight.....

BlackCherry · 10/02/2009 14:56

Thanks yummymummy, Yes last af started on 12th Jan... so I think that means I'm 4 weeks. Af only 2 days late. x

bubblebell1 · 10/02/2009 15:43

congratulations Blackcherry

lam81 · 10/02/2009 22:17

congrats blackcherry!!! we needed a bfp on this thread, mhy next step would be make an apt with gp who will refer you to midwife and they will deal with most of ur care from there, thats how things work where i am anyway, goodluck and enjoy!!

Joy27 · 11/02/2009 08:58

Congratulations Blackcherry, what wonderful news!

Bubble thanks for your kind advice. I think we're just going to have to get over the housemate issue and perhaps move off the very squeaky bed . My partner is quite determined to succeed this month, so I think we're just going to go for it! If only we could all go on holiday around ov time.

You know, when this thread first started I said I had a feeling I would have a Christmas baby. Let's hope it was a premonition and I'll be lucky this cycle or next.

What news from anybody?
