Anyone Planning To TTC From October

VeryKeenForABean · 23/08/2008 20:49

Hi, I had an ectopic in May and am coming up to the end of my 3 month wait following methotrexate treatment. Need to wait for blood results in September but hope to start TTC from October. Feel really positive about the future and want to start looking forward. Anyone want to pass the time with me?

Happy BDing and fingers crossed...

VillageMum · 30/10/2008 20:36

bluesatinsash, they're like little computers that tell you when your most fertile times are - they work either by getting you to wee on sticks and analysing your hormone levels or by asking you to take your morning temperature with a sensor (a bit like BBT but less DIY!) Both Clearblue and First Response do them but they work on different principles - I think the Clearblue one is the weeing kind, FR the temp kind. If we don't get lucky next cycle I may invest (they're pricey though!)
Sorry to hear you've had a low week. I'm willing my next cycle on so that we can start ttc!!

bluesatinsash · 02/11/2008 12:53

Thanks VillageMum - may also invest if I'm still ttc in the Spring... The OPKs have been my trusted friend thus far so will stick (pardon the pun)with them for now.

Talking of which I'm on CD9 tomorrow so will start using them again. I'm already excited/dreading the 2WW bit. I need to become more zen like in my approach as I know I may have to wait some months for BFP. Its harder for me as I fell first month trying for both pgs... I know that in itself is unusual so need to chill the feck out.

Would love to be on a pate/red wine ban for xmas though...

VillageMum · 02/11/2008 14:28

Good luck bluestatinsash and spats! Know what you mean about needing to become zenlike - I'm vvvv impatient for next AF so that we can get started! Zen, zen...

Need some advice please !!

Decided to come off the pill after my last pack in October but, I have got myself all muddled and can't work out when I should expect my period to arrive !!!

Took my last pill on 4/10 and started period (finally) on 8/10. This finished on 11/10.

Is it 4 weeks from first day of period or 3 weeks from end of period or am I completely off the mark here !!

Thanks in advance !!

VillageMum · 03/11/2008 12:10

Hi Icantbelieve, you should count the first day of your period after coming off the pill (8/10) as cd1. So you're now on cd27. Hope that helps!

Icantbelieveitsnotbitter · 03/11/2008 13:18

VM - thank you so much, that's a real help. I'll sit tight until the end of the week and see what appears !!

VillageMum · 03/11/2008 13:28

Good luck I can't believe! After I came off the pill my former 30 day cycle switched to being a 34 day cycle, and then the month after I fell pg (which sadly ended in mc) - now back to having first post-mc cycle again, but I'm not sure what it's going to be in terms of length. Hope yours is regular from the word go (or that AF doesn't appear at all if you've been ttc!)

spats · 03/11/2008 16:32

bluesatin - i know what you mean. i fell preg with both ds first month. 1st one we weren't actually trying as was our honeymoon and just didn't use anything so our honeymoon baby was conceived. I know some women are trying for their 1st and i am really blessed to have my 2 ds and to have had them really quickly.

olivo · 03/11/2008 18:06

Ican'tbelieveit, i have recently just come off the PIll too, but I have been counting CD1 as the day my bleed started (a week after finishing). bugger, seems i've got it all wrong and probably missed my fertile time

VillageMum · 03/11/2008 18:12

No, olivo, you've been counting right! Cd1 would indeed be the day your bleed started (same as for Icantbelieve). All sounds fine! Hope you've been lucky!

olivo · 03/11/2008 19:15

ah, hi villgemum. in that case, i'm only on CD5 so just maybe.......
damn, i promised myself i wouldn't get obsessed!!

VillageMum · 04/11/2008 10:01

Hi olivo, go for it! Obsession is par for the course, I think...

bluesatinsash · 04/11/2008 13:56

Hi All,

Just having my lunch while DS naps. Started my OV testing as on CD9, -ve today but CM is getting more abundent and thinner so fingers crossed for later this week..

VillageMum - question... Were you on an ante natal thread before your mc and if so would you go on one again next time round? I was one of the first on the April 09 one and miss the chats but am also ridiculously superstitious and wonder should I just lurk next time (fingers crossed) around until 12 week scan...

VillageMum · 04/11/2008 14:21

bluesatinsash, I wasn't on any antenatal thread last time, nor even on Mumsnet - I joined MN in desperation after my mc as I just couldn't find this sort of support in real life (am still on the emmysangels thread - what an amazing group of women; they've kept me company, kept me sane...) If I had a BFP I would share it with the ladies there and on this thread but I'm not sure if I'd join an antenatal until 12 weeks as the mc has cost me my innocence about being pg. On the other hand, being on a thread might be hugely supportive during early pg niggles. Why not see how you feel once the BFP arrives? (BTW, I'd definitely not share a BFP straight away with anyone in real life again - 12 weeks would be it!)

Had +ve OPK today after worrying that cycles might be badly out of whack since my mc - surprised and pleased that ov seems to be within the normal range for me again, though we're still going to wait this month out to recover properly. Sigh. Trying NOT to conceive is no fun!

bluesatinsash · 04/11/2008 14:40

oh VM - that's great news that your ovulating, your body seems to be back to normal. Your so strong for sticking to your guns and sitting this one out, I really admire you.

I on the other hand have been ttc practically since I was discharged after having my mc but we all deal with it in our own way.

I have to mentally stop myself from saying if I fall pg on (insert date) then I'll be 12/20/40 weeks on (insert date). I'm a Project Manager at work and spend my days forward planning and setting timescales and its hard not to switch off. I practically had a full project plan with last pg - aargh!

DH and me did have the future mat leave/finances chat last night but its stil peppered with ifs/hopes/whens and he actually admitted that his confidence has been knocked since the mc. It was good having a chat about the future though...

eek, better go, think DS is waking from his nap x

VillageMum · 04/11/2008 15:08

bluesatinsash, well, I have to confess that sitting it out isn't easy and is partly motivated by a suspicion that my body isn't ready yet (and so fear of another mc) - I just want to give any future pg the best chance possible. Have been trying to get my head back together again too, less easily done. As you say we all deal with it in our own way - but I must admit that you had me laughing with your description of your planning tendencies as I'm exactly the same! I'm already thinking, OK, if I ovulate on 5 November then a baby conceived in the NEXT cycle will be due on 31 August 2009... It's hard to switch my inner control freak off. I also had a full timescale for my previous pg all mapped out in my diary. Now those dates are still there, a reminder that the best laid plans don't always turn out the way we expect. Oh well. Roll on the next AF and I will be planning again, I know!

olivo · 04/11/2008 17:19

LOL at you control freaks! Nice to know I'm in good company
VM - I admire your willpower at not trying this month but understand you completely that your body needs to be ready.
i'm fed up of people asking me when we're planning to have another baby, one friend just eeps asking, it's so annoying. my current answer is 'hopefully sometime'.
they just don't realise how much i would like another!!!

VillageMum · 04/11/2008 19:42

olivo, I totally know where you're coming from about people being intrusive with that question - in the past we were never asked that often as we were both so obviously obsessed with our careers... but then I got pg accidentally in July, miscarried in September, and now we find ourselves in the land of ttc (or almost) and that question seems to be on everyone's lips. I think your answer is a good one! I would also desperately like to be pg again but I'm not letting on to the outside world... only on here!
We will get there (with a bit of careful planning )!

SuziBhoy · 04/11/2008 22:48

question ladies...........

when are you most likely to ovulate if u have an irregular period????

x

SuziBhoy · 04/11/2008 22:50

i can start ttc again woo

VeryKeenForABean · 04/11/2008 23:37

Congratulations SB xx

olivo · 05/11/2008 08:22

suzi - if it were me and i had irregular periods, i would try keeping an eye on your CM to see when you seem to be fertile. or maybe use opks? I have just come off the pill and haven't had 'normal periods' for over 10 years - pill, pg, bf, then pill, so I am going to use opks for a couple of cycles to try and get an idea. not cheap though. i'm also monitoring my CM and using fertilityfriend to keep a track (oh, yes, i am obsessed beyonf belief!)

good luck with ttc, you're in good company here.

VillageMum · 05/11/2008 09:40

Hi Suzi, if your periods are irregular that's because you ovulate at a different time every month (the bit that comes after ovulation, the luteal phase, is normally pretty fixed for each person). So you need to find out when you ov each time, as olivo says. You could start testing with OPKs every day from about cd10 and Fertility Friend is a great site that lets you do Basal Body Temp checking online (don't worry, olivo, I'm obsessed too!) Fingers crossed for you!!

olivo · 05/11/2008 13:53

i just wanted to pass on some advice i was given today, for all of us ttc or thinking about it. eat lots of warm food and plenyty of protein. maybe you all already knew that but I didn't! i'm not sure why but apparently it is supposed to help. twas my acupuncturist that told me.
