Ahhh, look how nice and clean and new this thread is .

And there is a big ScaryHairy birthday cake for us all to share. I am not being good till after Thursday afterall...

OP posts:
Bucky2008 · 17/08/2008 20:37

Thanks MABS. What thread are you from?

OP posts:
ScaryHairy · 17/08/2008 21:41

Hi MOB - no, no news. Am resisting testing and now I have decided it is so unlikely that I am preg that I cannot be bothered. Instead I spent the day finding out from my SIL what general anaesthetics are like. That's the bit am frightened about re proposed laparoscopy, and it doesn't sound too bad... I hope your DH had a good birthday and that you both enjoyed the cake and pub.

Thanks for the invitation MAB, unfortunately I am not going to make the Brighton meet up as we're having friends round. They're very lovely, otherwise I would be irked at missing out on a trip to the seaside with you lot.

See you all later. I hope you're enjoyed the weekend.

MABS · 18/08/2008 08:02

can' do links but its called 'another brighton piss up' in meet ups section.

Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 09:49

When can you make Scary, that weekend was just a suggestion....

OP posts:
Madoldbird · 18/08/2008 10:15

Yes - let's try and do a day we can all make - i want to meet EVERYONE!! What's good for you SH?? (and i daresay "judith" has a few weekends away booked already!!)

Madoldbird · 18/08/2008 10:16

BTW good morning bucky how are things with you?

GorgonsGin · 18/08/2008 11:31

hello everyone!

Sorry for the radio silence. i was in Scotland working and got to do some Edinburgh Festival (where i totalled the car ) and then had a wedding in the Lake District on Saturday with no internet access there due to remoteness - the hotel was at the top of a mountain. Apologies, but I am only catching up now.

AF arrived last Thursday, bang on CD28 as usual. I could honestly set my watch by my cycle, almost to the hour in fact. AF turns up about 11am each and every bl**dy time which would be impressive, if DH had Olympian swimmers . I was quite hopeful this month - for once - after lots of bedroom practice, EWCM and accupuncture, but it was not to be (again!). At least we will be on holiday next month at the key times, so we can BD away all day if we have the energy . This is actually our proper, fortnight summer holiday as opposed to our usual flying visits to weddings and family or for work in all parts of the country. Come on Bali!!! . I can't wait!!!

picknmix - hope you had a lovely time with the three little ones and a fab BBQ. WE're really glad to have you back with us here, even if you are ambivilent about TTc and the stresses it brings. And sarahnh's little Tess (gorgeous name!) makes me feel like there is still hope. God, it's hard though.

sarahnh - I remember you well! Huge congratulations on the birth of Tess . I bet you have completely fallen in love with her! It is always brilliant when former regulars come back to the thread and tell us where they've got to. I am thrilled for you!

Bucky - I am here again! I think i do need an Aunty Bucky lunchette to cheer me up - when are you free?! I am really impressed at your low carb diet and holding out against the biscuit temptation. i stuck to my low GI diet for weeks and it was beginning to pay off and then I went away for the weekends. Breakfast in hotels - they are a killer for me!

scary - I am glad the appointment at the consultant went ok and you got on with him - that's so important. Maybe the laproscopy will help to clarify things although I agree about being a chicken when it comes to invasive things like that. have you decided anything? I am feeling ill at the thought of IVF/ICSI when it comes round and I hate invasive things and I always faint. Is your DH definitely away at the critical time of the month? It's cr*p when your DH goes away and you know there is nothing you can do but there is so much that you should be doing IYKWIM. My DH travels a lot too, but luck of the draw (and it is sheer luck!) has meant that so far he has managed NOT to be away at critical times.

MOB - grrrr at your body taunting you with lots of EWCM this month when you can't act on it. Men don't understand how our physical symptoms are a constant reminder of where we are in our cycles and how it plays with our emotions. Have you given any more thought to doing ICSI and researched further the clinics near you?

caitni - I am at your trip to up-state New York. I was there for a few weeks last year around saranac lake and Albany and then ski-ing at Lake Placid and we absolutely loved it (and we drank quite a lot of local wine if I remember rightly, which was before Mr GG got his swimmers results and was allowed to ). If you want to read a book about the area, I have just finished (and absolutely LOVED) The Gathering Light, by Jennifer Donnelly which is set in the area around the turn of the century. I am a bit of a sucker for reading "local" books when I go on holiday, to understand and to get a feel for the area through literature set there, if that doesn't sound too up my own bum! (pretentious, moi?! ). i know you are a bit of a book addict too

hello to ei and all the others.

MABS - I wish I could make a brighton meet up but I will be away. Thanks for popping in and letting us know.

Now that I am back on line for the week, I'll pop in later and say a big hello to everyone and re-read the thread in case I have missed anything or any one (sorry to anyone missed - this has been a gallop through the posts!)

Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 11:37

Morning MOB and GG. GG and scary would you please select a weekend you jetsetters you..... I can't keep up. You need a dog...

OP posts:
ScaryHairy · 18/08/2008 12:10

Hi Ladies

Welcome back GG. I hope that you've recovered from your car crashing trauma and that your DH has learned his lesson about insurance? Yes, my DH is away a lot although we usually manage to swing it so that he is around for part (if not all) of the crucial time. This time we were on holiday when I ovulated (yay) but because I had EWCM for literally 2.5 weeks and was making him perform all the time, he went on strike by the time the best day came. So there was action 2 days before the temp rise (when there was lashing of cm) which hopefully does not rule us out but is not the best ever. I am now 11dpo and resisting the urge to test. To be honest, I can't get all that excited anymore...

MOB and Bucky I would come up with a date for the meet-up but sadly I am not that sensible or organised. Between work, DH's commitments, looking after DD and a vague attempt to have a social life I can be pretty crap about weekends. It might be best if you lot pick a date and I will do what I can to fit in (and to pursuade DH that spending a day alone with our daughter is a godd idea and that it won't be totally knackering?). Maybe I can tempt him with the promise of a stick of minty rock?

I've been thinking more about what the Dr said and I am definitely starting to lean towards the laparoscopy option if only because my backaches are becoming more frequent and more intense and the surgery might help. Also my SIL has explained to me that general anaesthetics are not the terrifying nightmare I have always thought, so the lap is starting to look like more of an option. Because I have suspected endo, I am hopeful that BUPA will cover it. So when (not if, I suspect) my period turns up this time I think I will bite the bullet and get a private referral.

Bucky where are you in your cycle? Am I right in recalling that you are about the same dpo as me? I have a feeeeling about you this month (grabs giant finger and points it at Bucky). That would make the lap (and the blood and dye) worth it.

Is everyone else ok? Waves to Caitni (is it just me or have you been holiday for ageeeeessss? GG is right - "The Gathering Light" is very good, I'd recommend it too), Ei, Picknmix our lovely bump-laden graduates and anyone else who visits the thread. I really think we are owed a BFP or two in the next few weeks. It has been far too long...

Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 12:20

*scary I am 10dpo. LP is usually 11 days so AF will be lurking just around the corner.... Fingers crossed, although I have no symptom whatsoever apart from greed. I figure I will test on Friday if she is a no show as I have the day off.

OP posts:
Caitni · 18/08/2008 12:55

Hi everyone,

MOB hope you had fun for Mr MOB's birthday! And glad to hear you enjoyed DC...am trying to work the details of it out and can't wait to head to the states (we go on Thursday night).

PnM wow at your SIL's offer. But I understand your ambivalence about it. At least you know it's there, should you need it, and it sounds like her way of offering her support to you both. While ttc is hard, it's also difficult to know what to say/do to help (I went through this with a brother and SIL, who now have the cutest one year old ever, but tried for a couple of years and it was so hard to know what to say at times - I've purposefully not said anything to them about us as I don't want to put them in that position now!).

SH well done you resisting the CB test - I'm really hoping it works its magic and you get a lovely big BFP! With regards to the general anasthetic, I've had it a few times and it's really not that scary (really not that hairy either ). Obviously, there are risks involved but it's worth it. If that's the only thing holding you back from the lap I'd say go for it. I've heard it can really help endo in particular.

Bucky how are you my loverly? Am hoping this is your month - fingers crossed AF stays away and you get a BFP. Greed (politely known as "increased appetite") is a definite symptom lol.

GG thanks for the book recommendation! I've been totally at a loss for books at the mo, so shall be definitely buying that before we set off. And glad to hear you had such up in upstate NY! to hear about AF arriving though. I'm thinking that things bode well for Bali though. Here's to a little BBB (bali beach baby) for you and Mr GG xxx

Ei hope things are good with you xx

MABS thanks for that invite - I shall look in on you on the other thread. I've recently moved to Brighton and would love a p!ss up lunch!

I'm pretty flexible on the Brighton dates, as Sept is looking mercifully quiet at the moment. I agree with MOB that we should pick the date that works for as many as humanly possible. It will be great to see everyone!!

In other news, I actually ended up having a lovely weekend. AF arrived Sunday, but since I was fully aware of it coming I wasn't too upset. I even managed to talk to DH about ttc last night without breaking down into a blubbering mess (this is a big step for me ). I have decided that I'm not going to temp this month - with all the travel and time zones I just can't be bothered with the stress I had last month worrying about erratic temps and about whether or not I actually ov'ed. I'll keep an eye on CM and try to fit in as much BDing as possible. Which should be fun on a family holiday

GorgonsGin · 18/08/2008 13:32

quickie post....
I can't do the first weekend in September (5/6th) because I'll still be in Bali, but the others are looking ok for me for a Brighton meet up.

GorgonsGin · 18/08/2008 13:35

p.s. - talking of holiday reading, can anyone else recommend some good novels for my trip. I'll get through about 12 books (not joking!) on a long haul beach holiday, so the more recommendations the better!

Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 16:13

OK, I should forewarn that I have particularly morbid reading tastes, or not particularly uplifting anyway, but here are a few of my suggestions, which you have probably already read:

  1. The Executioners Song - Norman Mailer (best book I have ever read)
  2. We need to talk about Kevin - Lionel Shriver (who is a woman).
  3. The Collector - John Fowles
  4. Scar Tissue - Anthony Keidis of the Red Hot Chili Pepper's autobiography.
  5. Cheesy Novel alert....The Other Side of Midnight - Sidney Sheldon
  6. David Baldacci stuff....
OP posts:
Caitni · 18/08/2008 17:02

Bucky yet more authors/titles for me to check out - yay! I've only read Mailer's The Naked and the Dead so would love to read more of his stuff.

GG I'd have to say that Richard Yates' Revolutionary Road (originally published in the 60s) is just amazing, head and shoulders above most things I've read this year (it's also being made into a film by Sam Mendes, if you like to read the books before the films...). Easter Parade by him is also excellent. Otherwise, Cormac MacCarthy is pretty stunning (though also not neccesarily upbeat). I recently read and loved Evening is the Whole Day by Preeta Samarasan (a debut writer from Malaysia, not quite Bali but definitely closer to that part of the world). I've just started Nicola Barker's Darkmans and it's proving excellent already (nice and thick as well, I like long books on holidays). OK, enough rambling from me!

Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 17:27

Re 'We need to talk about Kevin', be warned the first three chapters are a challenge, but once you get used to the style of writing it is a great great book.

sorry to intrude ladies. I have just joined this site, and was amazed at how many groups there are supportung each other, may I ask what your group is about?

loustillwantsaBFPtoo · 18/08/2008 18:31

Hello ladies, back from hols, lovely...
Hope you are all okay?
Back to proper TTC this month - very excited! Not sure about DH! He thinks I'm a nympho as it is!

Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 19:27

Welcome back Lou . You sound like you had a great time.

MarieCharlie Welcome. We are a ttc thread (trying to concieve). Originally we checked in when we were on the 2ww (2 week wait between ovulation and AF/BFP) but we post all through our cycles now and alot of us have been here ages now . We generally support each other through the ups and downs of ttc and have a general chit chat whilst we are at it.

Hope you stick around

Bucky x

ScaryHairy · 18/08/2008 19:38

Ooooh this thread has got busy suddenly.

Welcome back Lou. Does your DH know what's coming?!

GG I'm like you and read a book a day on a longhaul holiday (or at least I did before I had a small person to deal with; now I am lucky if I can do the crossword!). If I were going on holiday now I would be getting:

Chasing Harry Winston (by the person who wrote The Devil Wears Prada)
Something (not sure what) by Ian McEwan

Small Island by Andrea Levy

A Brief History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson

And then a load of airport paperbacks!

Bucky is the Lionel Shriver one mis-lit? I can't stand that genre...

Caitni you sound very positive about things which is great. I reckon forgetting the thermometer when you go away is a really good idea. This cycle my temps were all over the place, a lot of which was to do with travel, I think...

Mariecharlie Hello and welcome to MN. I am trying to figure out how to describe our group.... Well basically, there are a lot of ttc (conception) threads and some of them have a lot of members posting. Some of the members from one of the bigger threads decided to start this one for people on their 2 week wait, from between ovulation to your period (or, better yet, your positive pregnancy test!). So we hang around here moaning about how we hate the two week wait. These days most of us now seem to post here throughout our cycles and not just in the 2ww. We support each other through all sorts of things, some conception and pregnancy related, some not and sometimes we get together and drink too much gin. Anyway, don't let that rambling put you off; if you'd care to join us you are very welcome.

ScaryHairy · 18/08/2008 21:11

Clearly I spoke too soon.

Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 21:24

Call me stoopid but what is Mis-Lit Scary?

OP posts:
Bucky2008 · 18/08/2008 22:41

OK, I googled and no the Lionel Shriver book is not mis lit. I don't like all those child abuse books like 'A child called It' and stuff either . No its about the mother of a kind of 'colombine' kid. It's just really interesting although there is quite a lot of death in it. It's not uplifting exactly but it is enthralling and I have a weird curiosity about the criminal mind. I can't understand how people can do the things they do and still be human sometimes....

OP posts:
Caitni · 18/08/2008 22:41

Hi Lou glad to have you back from hols! And glad your DH have even more nymphoness ahead

Bucky maybe SH means misery lit? Something I'm also not a fan of, but I don't think Lionel Shriver's book is mis-lit...SH Small Island is excellent.

Hi MarieCharlie and welcome to MN. There are lots of wonderful people on here so hope you find whatever advice/support you're looking for xx

Can I just say I am totally addicted to the Olympics. I'm planning to put the cycling on in the office tomorrow morning (the joys of working in a place where watching "news" counts as "work" ). I've already decided to go to just about everything in 2012. I swear, I'll be suffering withdrawal symptoms when it's all over...

QueenyEisGotTheBall · 18/08/2008 22:58
