Welcome to the new thread I only hope I can link it to the old one

Herby I have a friend who went to Taranissi and she wasn't impressed with their after care, Infact she decided not to have treatment there as they behaved so appallingly towards her. I have been told that the embryologist is really important and the Lister have a good embryologist,

Annie, you can have treatment at NHS even if you are not eligible for treatment by going privately to the clinic, their prices are usually more reasonable too. Also I don't think your FSH level would rule you out for treatment.

I hope everything ok with you mowmi.

Love to everyone else.

We are in our rented house, but our buyer failed to complete on monday and has until a week tomorrow to complete or we keep the house and the deposit and sue the buyer for expenses, it has been a nightmare as they keep coming up with bits of money to buy more time, but I, and our solicitor thinks that is a ploy that eventually means that we will end up with less than the agreed price. I am so fed up with my agent who keeps ringing up daily with different offers, that I lost my rag with him today, feeling v guilty about it, but he seems really keen to get a deal. Anyway nobody knows what is going to happen until next week, I hate not knowing. sorry nothing about ivf at all just a big moan.

Hi all sorry I have been so busy I have not had time for MN (I know can you believe it!!)

Drugs arrived yesterday, and are merrily taking up the fridge and in a tin on top of wardrobe - out of harms way!!

momwi that is such great news. Everything crossed that the best of the bunch do their thing.

onlyaphase I would not stress yourself too much about your FSH. Mine last year was 11.8 and although it means I have to have the highest dose of the purgeon or what ever it is called, and is therefore extra expensive, it is still OK. If it is of any help I have a new blood test done that tests for the number of eggs left and is more accurate in some ways, and despite the high FSH, the other blood test says we are good to go. Hang in there.

lottie good luck with whatever you decide.

So for us downregging starts on Monday! I am so scared of going psycho and the damage that might do on my LO, good job he won't remember long term!

mowmi · 04/09/2008 07:36

Hello to everyone...need to be really quick because I am in work hell (so much for keeping stess to a minimum!!)
Really quick update... yesterday went well - 2 early blastocysts were put back - yikes! test date is 13/9. will hear today if any of the others are suitable for freezing.
Will catch up with this properly on Sarurday!

x

sootykalucy · 04/09/2008 13:58

Congrats Mowmi, lets hope they stick tight. .

Nappy Valley, what was the test you had that tested for amount of eggs left? And what was the theory behind it?

NappyValley · 04/09/2008 19:25

It was an AMH blood test. have a look at this article

Fingers crossed Mowmi.

Rah how are you getting on?

We are off out for an nice meal before I turn into cruella deville meets psycho, so that my husband remembers that he does still love me when that happens!!!

Are there any herbal supplements etc that help with the downregging process??

Bucky2008 · 04/09/2008 19:39

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if I could join you? . After 2.5 years and a mc I am about to select a clinic for IVF. I am more or less decided on Scanhealth but I am really interested in what you are all deciding as I think I should consider my options thoroughly.

Hope you don't mind me hanging around .

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing well,

Mowmi - I'm glad everything went well yesterday and best of luck for your testing day, its so exciting!

Londonlottie - I hope your investigations are going well and your not getting your mind full of all of the information.

Nappyvalley - best of luck for your downregging, I hope that it is relatively painless for you.

And hello to everyone else, I've just had a quick run down of the past few days messages but wanted to check in and let you know that I am now downregging (2nd day). Its going OK so far and I haven't noticed anything different so far, so so far so good.

Stupid question time, I know our nurse told me that we had to avoid unprotected s*x at one stage of our treatment but I can't remember when it was - does anyone know - sorry if I'm being dense.

Take care everyone.

Hi lottielondon , I have read only good reports about Scanhealth, and I have researched them quite thoroughly. There is also a forum on fertility friend of people who are being treated by them at the moment.

They have written back to me and attached info. Apologies to those that are not interested as this is about to be quite long, but I am cutting and pasting from the word document they sent me as follows:

Welcome to the IVF unit Scan Health Scandinavia

Hausken IVF provides compassionate, complete care, and offers the latest technologies and methods in top quality facilities. Our team consists of experienced physicians and staff dedicated to providing the individualised treatment we know is necessary to help you to achieve your dream of parenthood.

Hausken IVF is the only private unit at the West Coast of Norway.
We do 400 IVF/ICSI cycles per year.

We offer treatment for patients from UK because of the direct flight connection between Stansted, London and Haugesund airport (Ryan air).
The IVF Clinic is located only 15 minutes drive from the airport.

Scandinavia is known for having one of the best health services in the world.
This is also the case when it comes to infertility treatment. There are almost no waiting lists and most couples are offered 3 treatments (NHS). This is of course one of the reasons why the private IVF centres offer treatments at this low cost. The main reason is however the streamlined workflow in our centre and also the treatment efficiency.

For UK couples the clinic will offer:

IVF treatment £ 1700
IVF treatment with ICSI procedure £ 1800
IVF treatment with PESA/TESE £ 1900
FER, frozen embryo transfer £ 300

Remember:

? Treatments are only available for heterosexual couples that are in a well established relationship, i.e. married or living together as a married couple

? There is an age limit of 44 years (woman)

? We do not offer donor treatment

IVF Hausken is a Government-approved and Certified Norwegian IVF Clinic and it is also approved after the European Directives for assistant reproduction.

MD Jon Hausken has Certificate of Full Registration as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist Registration for UK.
We offer all couples a free consultation before treatment.

The most important issue is to meet the couple and give them the information needed for a successful treatment. We will make you a protocol for treatment based on the evaluation at this first meeting.
If we need to do a diagnostic sperm cell retrieval (PESA TESA TESE) this will cost 150 £

We do not have any waiting lists.
The couple can decide themselves when they will have the treatment done.

Results:

We do about 400 cycles per year and the over all ongoing pregnancy rate per started cycles is 37, 7 %. But be in mind 40% of our patients are above 38 years old. We are a private clinic. In some clinics that do a lot of NHS patients you will have a higher pregnancy rate, but they have younger patients and also a lot of first attempts.

There will be 2 journeys to Norway:

? The first meeting is really to get to know you and plan the treatment.
Do some tests that are needed before we can start.

After this first meeting you can start when ever you want.

? The treatment.
You will start the medication back home. You will arrive our clinic the 10th day of the FSH stimulation.
We will do the first scan and then we can decide when to do the egg collection.
The embryo transfer will be done 2 days after the egg collection.

Most couples will stay a week during treatment.

Prescriptions:

You will get the prescriptions needed for the treatment at the first meeting.
In Norway the medications are sold by the Government-approved pharmacies.
The price for the medication will be the same in any pharmacy in Norway and the prices are comparable to UK. If you want to buy the medication in UK, this is no problem because MD Jon Hausken has Certificate of Full Registration as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist Registration for UK.
Ryan Air:

There is a direct flight from Stansted, London to Haugesund airport.
From the airport it is only a 15 minutes drive to the clinic.

For the first meeting you can choose the dates yourself. Just look at the web site and pick some low cost flight tickets.

How to get to the clinic/apartment or Hotel

You can of course take a taxi. It will cost about 20 ? 25 £
The cheapest transport will be the airport bus ( 3 ? 4 £ )
Just tell the driver where you are staying/going and he will let you know when to leave the bus.
If you want to have a car rental, there are several companies present at the airport.

Accommodation:

We have a special agreement with Radisson SAS hotel.
The price will be 695 NOK (about 60 £) for a double room per night.
This will include breakfast and dinner buffet.
You will take the airport bus directly to the hotel. Just tell the driver where you are staying and he will let you know when you are there.

For booking: phone nr 0047 52861000

You have to tell you are treated by our clinic to be sure you will get a room with this special price.

Please phone the clinic when you are at the hotel and we will let you know the time for consultation (next day).

Phone nr 0047 52702170

Apartment in the town centre

If you want to have an apartment we have an agreement with:
Osmund Sørvåg and Lou Ann Eliassen

They can offer 2 nice apartments in the town centre.
O.Sørvåg for only 400 NOK (about 35£) per night.
L.Eliassen for only 500 NOK (about 40£) per night

For booking:
send a mail to [email protected] or phone 0047 97519036
send a mail [email protected] or phone 004792038328
Blood tests:

There are some blood tests you have to take before an attempt.

Female : HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Rubella
Male : HIV, Hepatitis B and C

Could you arrange this by your GP?
If not you will have the blood tests done at the first meeting.
We need the results before we can do the egg collection.

Embryo Transfer:

We are not allowed to replace more then 2 embryos in Norway.
If you are young and the embryo quality is good, we recommend single embryo transfer.
Embryos of good quality that are not replaced will be frozen for later transfers.

Wow Bucky! That's really useful information.

Like Lottie, I've looked at the Sweden package, but have been put off pursuing it further following Lottie's experiences. It's such an emotional time already, without being on drugs and having to deal with people that you don't 100% trust, so people's personal experiences mean a lot to me. At the moment, we're still hoping our PCT will be able to help us, but we found out today (after DH personally visiting the clinic) that the Urology department haven't heard of either of us. He had to speak to our Consultant (what a gem, seeing him without notice) and her secretary walked the referral up to the Urology department. We think it may be another month before his appointment will come through.

I'm not sure how long it takes for results to come back, but I'm worried that by the time we next see our Consultant at the end of October we still won't know whether we're candidates for SSR

Wondering how much investigations for DH would cost privately now. Does anyone know if we can just refer ourselves for such things?

Bucky2008 · 05/09/2008 16:24

Glastochick what is your DH having? A sperm analysis? If so, they are £75 if carried out privately.

NappyValley · 05/09/2008 19:37

onionlove The no BD after egg recovery, as they might have missed some and therefore you could OV and end up with multiple pregnancies. From what I hear I don't think BD will be on our minds at that point really!!! :0)

Hope downregging continues to go smoothly. It will be exciting as I am only a little behind you. We can moan about hot sweats together!!

Are you on the aggressive version, where you start taking drugs from DAY 1, or the other style where it is from day 19? I am on the Day 19 one btw.

Bucky I found going to an open evening really helpful, at our local clinic and the HFEA website was useful too.

mowmi, that is great news, fingers crossed for you.

Interesting reading about the Norway clinic - seems much cheaper than most, if not all, of the UK clinics. The success rates look good too, especially bearing in mind the age groups they are talking about.

The only downside from reading this stuff is the delay between starting the FSH drugs and the first scan. The last 2 IVF cycles I've had resulted in EC on the 11th day after starting FSH drugs, so I only took the FSH for 8 days in total I think, plus the dose was reduced 3 times following the scans and blood tests taken every 2 days. At the Norwegian clinic I'd have ovulated before I even got there! But their rates do look good, so their procedures obviously work for a lot of people.

It is very wet here - NE England - and no sign of any dry spells either. Bored of this weather now, and worried as we have a week in Scotland coming up soon - if the weather is like this I'm not going.

Onlyaphase · 06/09/2008 12:51

Oh and nappyvalley thanks for your words on your FSH level. I've responded the same on all three cycles over the last 3 years, regardless of rising FSH levels, so don't think it makes too much difference to me really, but my main concern is that my clinic may not want to treat me anymore as their published limit for treatment is an FSH level below 10. I shall be brave and call them on Monday to confirm we are going ahead as planned.

I'm sure this question can be dealt with at the first discussion with the clinic - you and I can't be the only one with this concern. I also think it depends on the drug dosage used - if they aren't using the max dose, or if they are giving anti-ovulation drugs at the same time, then it mightn't be an issue at all. The success rates are so good for 38 years+, so they must be doing something right!

I'm really glad I am not the only one that thinks this sounds like a good option! . I am going to call Scanhealth next week too. For some reason when they replied, reality dawned and I suddenly realised it could happen really quickly . I have spent so long expecting nothing to happen as AF just turns up month after month, that the idea that I could be having IVF the month after next was very daunting . I have a big weekend in New York planned at the end of October, so I am thinking I will make an appointment between now and then and if all goes well plan the IVF for November....

Let us know how you get on when you call Londonlottie

Hello Everyone,

Having a very bad day today...have AF cramps (in fact I've had them a couple of days) I've had so much horrific stress at work in the last week I don't see how this could have possibly worked?! None of the remaining blasts were suitable for freezing so maybe the ones they transfered were poor too? I am absolutely convinced this hasn't worked and I'm feeling so low - still have until Saturday to go to before we should test!

Hope the rest of you are ok.

Anniemac - please don't let my attempt to tell you who natural IVF is suitable for put you off going to see Create - I'm not too sure as it was never an option for us.
