Anyone else in the early stages of their TTC journey for baby #1?

Hi everyone,

We’re early into our TTC journey and are currently on cycle number 2 for our first baby. I’ve also never been pregnant before.

I’m currently on day 14 of my cycle but my cycles are around 25-27 days on average, so my Flo app predicted I’d ovulate on day 12 based off symptoms of ovulation from previous months which have been quite consistent. We dtd on day 7,8,10 and 11 and haven’t been able to do it again since due to clashing work schedules, mega long days and then being exhausted in our free time as a result, so I have no idea if we’ve done enough this cycle.

Either way, it would be nice to chat to others in the same boat who are also only just starting their TTC journey! :) I told myself this cycle I wouldn’t count down the days or symptom spot like I did last cycle, but it’s hard not to already!

Do you reckon my peak was last night and I missed it? Thank you ❤️

It certainly looks like it could’ve been a possibility and as you’ve DTD regularly too I’d say you’re in with a good shot! ☺️

Thanks @tiutinkerbell @mummm2! Been in a bit of a bubble and then abroad for work again so let’s see where it leaves me cycle wise. Period over thank goodness, and hopefully last cycle before properly trying for me! 🤞🏻 still vaguely optimistic my DH will have a moment of madness and we can try this month but not looking likely.

welcome @ProfessionalOverthinker1!

@Ivylilac how are you feeling now?

ProfessionalOverthinker1 · 01/05/2025 20:53

@LuellaB

Ugh, work travel… DH announced yesterday that he’ll be abroad on my peak day. Naturally, I offered the “genius” solution: since sperm can survive up to five days, we need to ensure it’s there well in advance, gotta give those swimmers a head start! 😆 Writing it out honestly makes it sound both strategic and slightly gross, but hey… science, right?

Had my office day today and grabbed lunch with an old colleague. She’s pregnant now, around 3 or 4 months, I think. At some point, she asked if we’re still trying, since we’d talked about it before. And without even thinking, I said no. Made up some excuse about things being on hold. I’ve been wondering why I said that. It’s not that I’m sad or bitter I’m actually really happy for her. She seemed so calm and content, like it’s all just unfolding naturally for her. Meanwhile, I feel like I’m planning a military operation. I don’t know… I guess it just felt easier to dodge the question 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Ivylilac · 01/05/2025 22:07

@LuellaB I think AF is on her way to be honest, I’d be staggered if I got a positive test now. I’ve got cramps, mood swings, headaches and I just feel like my period is about to arrive. I’m not going to bother testing until Monday I don’t think, if my period doesn’t show up before then, because I just can’t be bothered to be honest. Really lost all motivation with it all this month, which feels pathetic given this is only cycle 3 for me, but I guess I can’t help feeling this way!

I think that’s normal to dodge the question to be honest. I had a friend ask me this month if we were trying as I slipped up a bit and said something like “if I were to get pregnant” when talking about something and she immediately asked if we were trying. I also instantly said no as if I hadn’t frantically been tracking my ovulation that morning 😂 but I just think sometimes it’s easier to not go into it! It invites a lot of questions and pressure in my opinion.

Totally understandable to have an off month, though! When you’re so excited about something, three months feels like ages and it’s a bit of a bubble bursting feeling. Also daunting because you’ve a whole 9 months of pregnancy still to go. I first raised coming off contraceptives with DH in October 2023 and there have been moments in the past 18 months where that has been akin to torture even though we weren’t trying.

@ProfessionalOverthinker1 I think I’d have dodged it too! Currently I’m so excited that I feel like I’ve mentioned wanting to have a baby next year to too many people and I may have to furiously backpedal in a few months if they ask how it’s going.

Couchtattie · 02/05/2025 07:41

@Ivylilac 3 months feels a long time though when you’re tracking and DTD at specific times etc. It is very deflating. It’s not over till AF shows though! A month off might help to just chill out a bit. I don’t think I’ll be tracking next month, feels all consuming.

@ProfessionalOverthinker1 I have just said the same to my friend asking me at a wedding if I was planning to have kids. I went on a big spiel about how it would be nice but I’ve always been quite relaxed about it and what’s to be will be. Yeah so relaxed, as I pee on sticks 3 times a day 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ivylilac · 02/05/2025 08:01

@Couchtattie yeah it really does. I can’t believe we’re now in May and I just don’t even know what I’ve done with my time other than think about all of this! It definitely takes over.

Hey everyone how are you all doing? I’m cycle day 10 today. I’m still using the CB digital ovulation tests and has a flashy smiley the last two days so expect a static smiley at the weekend. And then on to the dreaded TWW. It’s only cycle 3 for me but agree how consuming it can all be.

I haven’t told any friends yet! But might tell one or two if it takes a while, I’d definitely benefit from speaking to someone IRL. One of my good friends has just been through IVF and is currently pregnant so I think she’d be a good person to chat to.

Hope you’re all doing ok!

Couchtattie · 02/05/2025 11:21

@Wiennetta I’m okay, had a chemical last month and this month has been so odd. Not had an LH peak, just high readings yesterday and today which would Cd23 and 24, which is very late. I think my body is out of whack. Normally I ovulate on CD19.

Ive been using strips though, would you recommend the digitals?

Ive told a couple of friends too and my mum and felt better for it. Good luck ❤️

2Sugars2 · 02/05/2025 13:25

Hi Ladies.. Room for one more on this thread? Currently in cycle 2 for baby #1. I got my peak yesterday so suspected ovulation is today CD17. Then I will be in the dreaded TWW, so I thought now would be a good time to join to guys so I don't go crazy!
Bit of background - my OH had a vasectomy reversal (he has 2 lovely DD from previous relationship) so there is the added pressure of having a reversal but I have just been trying to do everything right on my side of things - tracking with OPKs and I've attempted to track BBT but literally no idea what I'm looking for with that if I'm honest!

Sending baby dust to you all xx

PearOpal · 02/05/2025 15:46

Well looks like AF is gearing up to make her presence known and I have a feeling DH is going to be traveling during my window for May so I may be on to June.

Im glad we get to chat to each other even while it can be difficult navigating TTC with our friends. @2Sugars2 theres always space! Welcome and happy to have you.

I made it this cycle doing BBT for this month but my numbers were so unpredictable even the app I was using gave up on me and removed its estimated ovulation date for me. Decided to buy one of those fancy hormone testers for next month to get an early jump on figuring out if I’m out of sorts or not. I had an ovary removed when I was young and all they could tell me was to wait and see if you have troubles TTC so I’m probably being paranoid but finding myself concerned I’m off to a bad start.

@Ivylilac are you testing today or did you decide to just wait for AF and go from there?

Ivylilac · 02/05/2025 16:36

@2Sugars2 Welcome to the thread!

@PearOpal ahh are you getting AF symptoms too? Ooo which hormone test was it? I’ve vaguely looked at Hertility. Ah sorry to hear that! You’ll hopefully be fine, as you hear about loads of women having ovaries and fallopian tubes removed too and still going on to conceive normally, but I totally get your worry, I’d be the same.

I didn’t test, no. My CB app says I’m due today, my Flo app says I’m due tomorrow and my Clue app says I’m due Sunday, so I’m going to wait until Monday to test I think if she hasn’t arrived by then. I still feel like she’s on her way though as I’ve had cramping badly for days, but I have had a weird metallic taste in my mouth all day today, so of course my mind is now starting to go to all the possibilities… my friend said when she got pregnant it felt exactly like her period was going to come on and then didn’t, so who knows!

I got BFP on Saturday and I’ve been having cramps for about a week, they have definitely felt like period cramps but less severe (although mine are always horrendous) and a bit lower down so more in my pelvis, when I get AF my cramping is usually more lower back - if that helps at all!!

So many people say it feels exactly the same, so you never know @Ivylilac!!

Couchtattie · 02/05/2025 19:33

Congrats @Crocs30 !

PearOpal · 02/05/2025 21:17

Congrats @Crocs30!!!

@Ivylilac fingers crossed for you!! Here’s to hoping that’s implantation cramps but we’ll be here either way for you! I ordered the Inito. It’s similar to the Mira but was on sale so more then half the cost. It tests LH, estrogen, progesterone and fish but only uses one test strip a day.

Thank you ♥️ I’m really not sure, I didn’t track anything and my periods have never been regular enough to work it out but my guess would probably be 10-12 DPO based on when did DTD. The first test I did was pretty faint so it was definitely early - I’ve literally tested every day since 😆

2Sugars2 · 03/05/2025 08:20

Congratulations @Crocs30 lovely news

Fingers crossed for you @Ivylilac

I've just entered the TWW so 1DPO for me. Anyone else a similar DPO? Weirdly I feel like a weights been lifted.. I'm not fretting over OPKs or stressing over when to DTD. Not sure how long this feeling will last though in the TWW 🤣

Hope you all have a nice bank holiday weekend xx

Ivylilac · 03/05/2025 09:03

Still no AF this morning. I had bad cramps last night but it’s odd, I seem to only really be getting the cramps badly at nighttime, but by the morning they seem easier to deal with again. Also had very slight boob pain, a tiny bit of nausea and my nose is mega stuffy, but that could just be hayfever to be honest. We’re really busy today and tomorrow, so if AF hasn’t arrived by Monday morning I’ll definitely test then. My CB app is now considering me one day late and Flo thinks I’m due today, so we’ll see!

@2Sugars2 that’s good! Being relaxed about it probably helps anyway!

OP posts:
Couchtattie · 03/05/2025 19:27

@2Sugars2 I am 1DPO too. Same, we DTD 7 or 8 times in the fertile window and I was testing like a mad woman, I feel we’ve done all we can and now just think whatever lol I’m over it. I felt absolutely demented this month 🤣 Good luck x

@Ivylilac that sounds like it could be implantation or early pg signs. Crossing my fingers for you x

BrightSide234 · 04/05/2025 10:50

Congrats on the BFP @Crocs30, how are you feeling?

How is everyone in the TWW doing?

AF is due today or tomorrow according to apps so thinking I'll test tomorrow if no arrival. Just so hard to know if things in the last week are all just AF brewing with having never been pregnant 🙈

2Sugars2 · 04/05/2025 11:42

@Couchtattie cycle twins then.. we can ride out the TWW together! Demented is a great choice of word 🤣 sums me up perfectly this month as well! Sending baby dust to you ✨

@Ivylilac how are you getting on? Any other symptoms?

@BrightSide234 it's so hard to symptom spot isn't it when the symptoms are very similar to AF. Testing tomorrow sounds like a good idea though... I don't know if I would have the patience to wait it out 🤦🏻‍♀️
