Tips on how to not test before missed period

Laria19 · 18/02/2025 17:00

I tested early on my two pregnancies before and had two successful pregnancies then I had an early miscarriage and a chemical miscarriage last year and I was trying my hardest not to test early because of the heartbreak I experienced from the last two times. I’ve been trying this month and hoping I get a positive next month but I don’t know how I am going to stop myself from testing early, I worry so much after having the miscarriages anyone else finding it hard not to test so early x

Oh goodness, well firstly congratulations on making it with no interventions yay!
Also Freya is a beautiful name, one i love but cpuldnt use because the brand of cat biscuits we get is called freya and apparel that wouldnt do! Super glad at least some beautiful girl gets to use it 🤣
Absolutely feel your pain with the two day non stop contractions - they wear you down!
Also fingers crossed for the feeding and weight gain getting better! It will help the jaundice too im sure.
Did you end up having to cancel the registration appointment? @curliegirlie
@Laria19very envious of the online registration you can do! We have to register our within 3 days... except they normally keep you in for 5 so it a man's job apparently 🙄

Laria19 · 18/02/2026 21:40

Ye it’s super convenient for us, saves us waiting around in an office waiting to be called 😅what did you call your little girl id you don’t mind me asking 🙂 @LaTable

LaTable · 21/02/2026 07:41

Anastasia, the kids just call her Annie though and I call her fanakers or fanakerpants 🤣
What about your little one @Laria19?

Laria19 · 21/02/2026 14:32

Oh she has the same name as my favourite childhood film 🥰beautiful name. My little girl is named Blair 💖 @LaTable

OP posts:
LaTable · 21/02/2026 18:57

That's really lovely, I bet it suits her so well! 🥰
Is Blair also just never napping during the day or is it just mine? I don't know if it's because the kids have been off school, if it's just 3 month nasties or if she just generally hates sleeping haha she doesn't take a dummy either so my nipples are at breaking point 🫠

Laria19 · 21/02/2026 21:45

Blair has gotten better at napping during the day she was not good at the beginning unlike my other two who loved a nap😅She’s not mad on a soother either, takes it here and there but does like having it at bed time. I tried breastfeeding agin this time around and it just wasn’t happening for us so I gave up and happily giving her bottles. I salute you for persevering. God help your nips though 😅what’s your routine like trying to put her down for a nap x @LaTable

OP posts:
LaTable · 21/02/2026 22:28

Non existent haha we do white noise and her room is basically pitch black day and night because I'm too lazy to open and close her shutters every nap.
She's started getting very distracted during feeds now, and my eldest cannot stand the noise so we go to Annie's room more often then not where its quiet (this was similar to my first dd, 2nd was happy to feed and sleep anywhere), and she'll happily fall asleep on the boob but wakes as soon as it's not in her mouth anymore which is killer. Nights are better though. So I guess you win some you lose some 🤷‍♀️ also she's still just 3 month and a baby so I shouldn't be surprised. It's just frustrating that I spend literally all day not being able to do anything because I'm feeding her to sleep constantly or trying to settle her because she's tired but won't nap 🫠 good job she's bloody cute....

Hats off to you for bottle feeding, I was just talking to a friend the other day about that as she bottle fed too, I don't know how you guys do it without the convenience of just whipping a boob out for every occasion without waiting for bottles to be made and warmed 😂

Laria19 · 21/02/2026 22:47

Ah so pretty similar to my set up for Blair’s nap time. I know we do have to remind ourselves they haven’t been earth side for very long😅. Actually bottle feeding is grand we just boil the kettle pour the water into the bottles and let them cool room temp. Don’t know why anyone would warm up a bottle as milk is supposed to be room temp anyways 😅but sure each to their own 😊

Sounds like you've got that figured out and routine down!
How are your bigger ones finding having a little sister?

Laria19 · 23/02/2026 16:46

They get on great with her and then go back to living their lives 😅how about your girls ? @LaTable X

OP posts:
curliegirlie · 23/02/2026 18:52

My girls are loving being big (and big big) sisters and love holding her, reading to her and feeding her. We’re having to combi feed and I have to echo @LaTable - I HATE the extra faff, compared to just whacking a boob out, and the associated worries of having to wake her overnight, guilt if I don’t manage to top up every feed etc etc (plus frustration at not finding time to express more than once a day if I’m lucky…). And worrying about weigh-ins and whether she’ll continue to gain as she’s started to 😩

LaTable · 23/02/2026 19:46

She sleeps a little too well at night then? @curliegirlie?
I feel for you with the combi feeding and the stress of it.
I wanted to with my first but I just couldn't get any milk out at all when I was expressing, no matter what I used or did.
What weight us freya now? When was her last weigh in

I've got one that is constantly touching, cuddling or up in Annie's face and another who may as well be on a different planet half the time. She might occasionally give her a little wave or a head tap like a dog but that's about it!
Makes me all the more sure she's got some sort of divergent thing going on in that brain of hers

curliegirlie · 23/02/2026 22:24

She varies. I’d say about 50% of the time she wakes about 3 or 4 (having had a feed around midnight), but other times she’s slept through until 5 or later. I’ve been setting an alarm for 3 or 4 the past few nights (depending on whether she’s last fed 12 or 1) and sometimes she’s really hard to wake. Freya’s last weigh in was Friday - 3950 - she’s nearly up to birth weight of 4030g and we’ve been discharged from MWs, so that’s great. I just hope it continues!

LaTable · 25/02/2026 13:15

Oh she's so close! You're doing amazing getting her top ups and fed through the night. To get her to that weight with all the other stress you've had to go through with her and having other children is bloody hard
Annie has her 2nd vaccines tomorrow. Dreading it, she screamed all day (even more than normal) on the last dose. Had to get my earplugs put to take the edge off 🤣

LaTable · 08/04/2026 07:11

How is everybody getting on?

Laria19 · 08/04/2026 10:55

All good here how are you ☺️ @LaTable

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 08/04/2026 11:12

All good here @LaTableI didn't answer last time as was readjusting to life with a newborn! How are you?

LaTable · 09/04/2026 10:54

Bloody exhausted! Haha little miss Annie still doesn't sleep during the day, even less so with her sisters on half terms and now sleeps even less in the night, and now we're reverse cycling with feeds too 🫠
Bloody cute though and I want to eat her up!
How is your little boy @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate?

Has freya stayed putting on weight @curliegirlie?

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 09/04/2026 15:15

Just had to Google reverse cycling! How old is she now?

Little one is good. Spent his first week in NICU in an incubator having help with his breathing, but you would never guess so now at 9 weeks. He's a beast 💪🏻

LaTable · 09/04/2026 16:28

Just coming up to 5 months. I feel like it's going faster than ever with each subsequent child, absolutely not fair on my mama heart!
She's getting little handprints on mirrors lately and I'm sure it was the other day that both the big two were doing the same
So glad he is out of the nicu and doing so well!
What happened? If you don't mind me asking x

LaTable · 09/04/2026 17:08

Re read now I wasn't trying to do 10 things at once and saw he needed help with his breathing!
Silly me
Honestly I'm surprised I can function, my brain is a big old pile of mush at the minute 😅
What did you name him?

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 09/04/2026 18:13

Haha I think that's expected! Baby brain will be my excuse for years! It's shocking how quick they grow isn't it 😭 i think you're right about subsequent babies.. probably because we dont have the time to just sit down and relax and soak it all up like with the first baby. As soon as the baby is asleep the older one(s) want attention! Ahh his name is ridiculously unique that I don't want to say incase someone I know sees it! X

Creepyoctopus · 11/04/2026 21:18

I just read this whole thread as at first I didn’t realise it was from 2025, and I must say I think this has been the most happiest heartwarming thread I’ve ever read I’m so glad you all got a happy ending

curliegirlie · 14/04/2026 10:09

@LaTableabsolutely agree that time goes faster each time, but that’s also a symptom of getting older I’m sure!

Freya’s doing well - weight-wise she’s down a percentile, but as long as she keeps tracking that I’m happy. She seems to have gone off left boob though, so looks like I’m destined to remain lopsided 🤪 (Probably a vicious cycle of it producing less, so she gets frustrated, so I go to righty because it’s easier, so left produces less etc). She LOVES her sisters and they really know how to make her smile 🥰.

We’re venturing out into London to visit my work colleagues now, so a little adventure for us. I was very proud of myself for us making it out for the 10am train. Mind you, the shit gets real tomorrow, as DD2 has a school trip and has to be in early, so I’ll be doing my first morning school run with DD1 😱 (I think school would take a dim view of her being booked into breakfast club, because they worry that her doing wrap around confuses her about boundaries around how she behaves around school. Frustrating, but it is what it is….).

curliegirlie · 14/04/2026 10:14

@ChocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolateFreya is obviously very far away from ridiculously unique, so I feel fairly safe disclosing it. It was on our list for DD1 nearly 11 years ago, so I wondered if its popularity would have waned in the interim (there are currently around 9 billion Freyas at Brownies!). However, I bumped into a school mum last week who has a new 4 week old…you guessed it, another Freya! So I guess she’s going to experience what all the Sarahs and Beckys did in our generation 😂
