Tips on how to not test before missed period

I tested early on my two pregnancies before and had two successful pregnancies then I had an early miscarriage and a chemical miscarriage last year and I was trying my hardest not to test early because of the heartbreak I experienced from the last two times. I’ve been trying this month and hoping I get a positive next month but I don’t know how I am going to stop myself from testing early, I worry so much after having the miscarriages anyone else finding it hard not to test so early x

@LaTable you will be glad to know that you aren’t the only one to be having a third girl 😂

Wait, I thought your scan was today not yesterday? Hahaha
Good luck to us when they hit their teens 😅😅😅
Perhaps curliegirlie may have 3 girls too, we can all band together in solidarity hahaha
But glad all is well and healthy @Laria19! 😊

LaTable · 17/07/2025 13:17

Hope your results from the nipt came back with positive news. Good luck with your scan tomorrow @curliegirlie

curliegirlie · 17/07/2025 13:27

Thank you @LaTable! I got the NIPT results yesterday - all fine, but slightly annoying that you don’t get the numbers with the results now - and yep, scan tomorrow. Plus ALL the bloods as my veins still weren’t playing ball when they tried to get the ones done I should have had at booking, at the NIPT appointment. I was damn lucky they managed to get enough for the NIPT! Hey ho!

LaTable · 19/07/2025 16:08

Glad the results were good! Hopefully the next midwife app can give you the numbers?
Also hope they actually managed to get bloods from you and all was well yesterday x

Outside9 · 19/07/2025 16:11

I just try to remember that testing early has no impact on the outcome**

LaTable · 30/07/2025 08:51

Hope your holiday was good @curliegirlie
How are you going @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate?! How far along are you now? 🙂

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 30/07/2025 09:00

Morning @LaTableI'm 10+2 now. Had a private scan at 8+6 so we could tell our parents, and our 12 week scan is bang on 12 weeks. I'm nauseous still from waking up to going to sleep 🙃 How are you doing?

LaTable · 01/08/2025 19:18

10 weeks already time flies @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate
Yea the all day nausea is fun... sometimes all I thought was please can I just throw up to get the feeling away. One of the worst things.
But you're managing okay?
Glad you managed to get a private scan so you could tell your parents, they must be excited for you 🙂

LucyLou0527 · 04/08/2025 21:19

Hey @LaTable I hope you and baby are well! 🤰🏻🥰

thank you so much for checking in, I’m sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I haven’t been on this for months.

Well I do have a big update actually..

I left my husband and we are now divorced!!

Not quite the outcome I wished for however I couldn’t be happier😘

LaTable · 04/08/2025 21:57

We're doing well thank you! She's enjoying kicking my insides and being transverse 😅

Err... that's huge news I was not expecting! You know what though, soooo glad it's the right choice for you. I can only imagine the stress and choices leading up to that! So what are you looking for in life now, you enjoying the freedom from it all? X

curliegirlie · 05/08/2025 10:18

Hello all! Now I’m back from Tenerife! It was a lovely break, lots of relaxing, pool action, a boat trip, Medieval jousting (!) and a gorgeous day trip to Teide and some towns and villages round and about! Now it’s bump back to reality! And speaking of bump, I’ve now told all my family as it’s becoming increasingly difficult to disguise and I’d have felt weird if half the population of my town knew but not my family 😂. I also got a letter yesterday to inform me of a data breach - looks like the screening midwives initially emailed my NIPT results to the wrong patient, d’oh!

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 05/08/2025 13:25

Just realised I didn't reply @LaTable! That is exactly what I think some days. I feel like if I could just be sick then it would be done! Seems to be dying down a little now but the heartburn is real. I don't remember getting that this early with DS either!

We are currently on holiday in Scotland and Storm Floris is doing us dirty as it's so cold after being beautiful Friday/Saturday!

How are you? How far along are you? X

LaTable · 08/08/2025 21:12

Oh gosh, what fools!
Glad to hear you had such a lovely time abroad though @curliegirlie
Also how very exciting telling family, I imagine it makes it all feel that much more real!

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolatehad no idea the uk were getting crappy storms again!
Still can't take away the prettiness of Scotland though 😍 although I absolutely hate the cold so empathise with you there!
We've just taken a few days in the camper localish with the kids for somewhere new, thankfully before the weather got to the mid to high 30s again! Even though the walk around a park at 32 was still rough!
Coming up to 27? Weeks (third child issues already), little tike is still transverse and kicking internally - feeling slightly cheated I don't get feet and elbows poking out like with the other two!

When is everybody's next scans?

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 09/08/2025 07:59

@LaTableI didn't know until I had people from back home messaging me saying stay safe! I had to Google it. It was very windy though!
Scotland is beautiful. We were by the coast and could have easily been abroad on the little beach.

Are you abroad then? Wow I would never cope with those temps!

My next scan is Monday when I will be exactly 12 weeks! You are so far along! I'm jealous!

LaTable · 09/08/2025 16:11

Hahaha you sound like me @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate
We did a camper trip a few years ago along the coasts of Scotland and spent the night at Dunnet head in a huge storm 😅😅 only found out after and was like huh, no wonder it was so windy....

Yep, we live abroad now, in France. A lovely 36c in the shade here today 🥵, the thermometer in the sun was reading mid 40s and it certainly feels it in the sun. Super thankful for ac, the pool and a freezer full of ice cream!

Eeee the 12 weeks scan is actually one of my favourites. Even though I get super nervous too!
Don't be jealous haha i feel like it's flying by and I want it to slow down again! I'm so not ready to be finished with pregnancy forever 😩

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 09/08/2025 16:39

Just googled that, that's so far up!

I would looooove to live in France, it's definitely my favourite country. What made you move out there? Are you south or north? I would guess more southern with those temps but I'm quite often wrong 🤣

I know.. I'm actually quite worried about it as I just want everything to be ok! I was so naive last time just thinking I would sail through! I did, but that's not helping me this time! I was in a WhatsApp group with others due the same time and had to leave as they were just making me so anxious with their own worries.. I couldn't take it! 😳

LaTable · 09/08/2025 17:22

Central West so neither 🤣 I absolutely could not with anything more south.
Haha what made us move, we were renting and the owners wanted to sell and we were like right, let's go buy a house we can afford, huh. France looks good, never been (hubby had but neither of us spoke french) now here we are 6 years later still!

Ugh those WhatsApp groups are far too busy imo. And I face palm too many times with some of the concerns, and like you the more anxiety related things used to make me go down a rabbit hole too.
I'm sure all will be well, your last scan was fine so I'm sure this one will be too 🙂

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 11/08/2025 17:55

Hi all! Just wondering if anyone has experience with the NIPT? Is it recommended etc? I had my 12 week scan today (actually measuring 13+1) but baby was being awkward and they couldn't measure the NT. We have been booked in for quads in a few weeks time, and I think 20 week scan says it looks for Edwards and Pataus, but I feel may prefer just to get the NIPT done as soon as possible. Will it replace my quads? Would you let the midwife know you are getting this done instead?

LaTable · 11/08/2025 18:00

@curliegirliei think would have better advice and experience with this x

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 11/08/2025 18:05

Thanks @LaTablex

curliegirlie · 12/08/2025 01:07

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolateif you can afford it privately do so - it’s still not diagnostic (so still only gives high/low chance of the 3 trisomies) but it’s lot more accurate than the quad and the combined test, as it looks at DNA rather than a bunch of proxy variables (PAPP-A, HcG level, NT, your age etc). How old are you? Whilst on the NHS you’re only usually referred to the NIPT if you get a high chance CT results, there are a couple of other scenarios that can also get you a referral…

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 12/08/2025 07:02

Thanks @curliegirlie! I'm 35. When you get the results does it just says 'low risk or 'high risk' or does it give actual numbers, the 1 in whatever? Is it worth paying more for the top one that tests for more anomalies? Its only £27 more.

curliegirlie · 12/08/2025 07:39

I’ve got no idea how the private ones work (other than I think they ordinarily include gender, which the NHS one doesn’t - and didn’t even back when they were using the same providers), but I guess it’s up to you if you think it would be useful to include other conditions too (and £27 extra doesn’t sound a lot for the extra reassurance). Sadly I don’t think 35 is geriatric enough to swing skipping the CT via the NHS - I am 43 and I think I got to do so primarily because DD#1 has Down’s syndrome, and then I was stunned to discover my CT was 1 in 2,400 in any case! (Although I’m still very glad I had the NIPT as I don’t actually trust the CT much!). The NHS one only returns high or low nowadays, but back when they went through the private ones they used to provide the figure, so the private ones may still do so.

I hope that’s all helpful!

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 12/08/2025 07:41

That's great, thanks. I'll book the extra I think for the sake of £27. The top package is on offer for the same price as the mid package so will do that!

curliegirlie · 12/08/2025 09:21

Excellent. Maybe one day they’ll see sense and ditch the combined test altogether (or just use those bloods for PAPP-A checks) and just offer NIPT. It does seem very antiquated nowadays.
