Tips on how to not test before missed period

I tested early on my two pregnancies before and had two successful pregnancies then I had an early miscarriage and a chemical miscarriage last year and I was trying my hardest not to test early because of the heartbreak I experienced from the last two times. I’ve been trying this month and hoping I get a positive next month but I don’t know how I am going to stop myself from testing early, I worry so much after having the miscarriages anyone else finding it hard not to test so early x

@LaTableNeg this morning but only 9dpo. Light cramping but no AF yet, so we shall see 🙂 trying to be more positive going forward! How are you? X

curliegirlie · 14/05/2025 14:27

@LaTable I didn't see that they'd arrived on the Saturday, so didn't do another test until Monday, by which time my LH levels had completely dropped. My temps suggested I may have ovulated on Sunday (CD17) but they still feel a bit low for post ov, so I don't quite believe it (or that this cycle will be successful) yet...FF isn't absolutely convinced either 😅

@curliegirlie did you end up finally getting a positive opk with the new ordered ones?

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate @LucyLou0527 any luck on the tests?

Hi honey I hope you are well! Thanks for checking in!

Im currently in my final cycle before my appt in June with the fertility specialist.. fingers crossed I can cancel the appt but I doubt it🥲

curliegirlie · 14/05/2025 16:31

@LucyLou0527 I fell pregnant with DD1 a couple of weeks after our first fertility appointment! So you never know...

I really hope so🥲🥲 x

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate gah bummer, but still early days!

@curliegirlie bbt absolutely throws me for a loop. I sort of get it but I'm not a numbers kind of girl 😅
Are you still testing just incase it's a late ov?

@LucyLou0527 absolutely exciting for the fertility app though? It's a step forward.
And im sure 9/10 (not real facts) get pregnant just before or after that forst appointment... here is to hoping 😉😉

EMC2022 · 14/05/2025 23:50

@LaTable how are you?

I am just starting the TWW. I actually gave the ovulation tests a skip this month and just tried to base it off my apps. Basically DTD every second day over the predicted fertile week. I figured it may be less stress not know how many DPO I am etc. Curious if this approach will lead to more or less preganncy tests being taken!

curliegirlie · 15/05/2025 08:22

I took another test yesterday - very faint again - so I'm still working on the basis it was Sat. And my temp this morning was 36.77 which I'm happier with. I like all the monitoring because it gives me some semblance of control and knowing what's happening (even if that what is usually zilch). I'm just trying to focus on the fact that DD2 came along 4 cycles after a CP, and my mate's second was straight after a CP and following years of fertility issues before her first. Although I'm a lot older than we both were back then....

LaTable · 16/05/2025 12:07

@EMC2022 you're stronger than many of us letting go of the tests haha fingers crossed it works for you this round though!

@curliegirlie totally get the need to do them. Ttc is all so out of our hands and it's so frustrating not knowing exactly what's happening within our own bodies (myself included) hopefully you did peak at the weekend and it's all covered.
Absolutely hoping you get a sticky growy one soon.
I think even though you're older than you was then, I've read you're more fertile after a loss? I have no idea if that's actually true though, but I'm going to believe it is for you!

curliegirlie · 16/05/2025 13:10

Well, I certainly disproved the oft quoted more fertile after a loss last time round - took me 22 cycles after the March 2022 loss to have that CP, then 17 cycles before this February/March pregnancy 🤪. Although maybe that means it's my time to have a bit more luck now??

As for the title of this thread, I can't promise not to test early, but I might give testing a miss if I see my temps creep back down around 9 or 10 DPO....

LaTable · 16/05/2025 14:56

Statistically you have to be due for some luck on the bfp side of things soon.
I'm still routing for you haha

I mean, we all absolutely failed at not testing early, but I suppose with the temping it gives you the information before you pee on something too

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 17/05/2025 13:11

I have faint lines.....

LaTable · 17/05/2025 14:45

Did I just squeal a little bit. Yes. Yes I did.
Gaaahhh how many dpo?
Congrats!

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 17/05/2025 15:39

Aww thanks @LaTableI'm 12dpo, so feel like they should have darker.

curliegirlie · 17/05/2025 16:06

Can you get a Boots one?

LaTable · 17/05/2025 16:28

Mine where lighter than that 12dpo! And about that 16dpo and didn't get dark until I was 5 weeks almost

And I can tell you baby is currently very wiggly after an afternoon nap on the sofa 😅...
If you need line progression, do it again in a couple of days, but the fact that it's dark enough to get an actual picture of is great!

curliegirlie · 17/05/2025 16:55

Absolutely @LaTable - I remember my One Step test with DD1 at 11dpo was an absolute squinter so I'm pretty sure that's darker than my next day test would have been. Everything crossed for you @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate 🤞🤞🤞

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 17/05/2025 18:52

@curliegirliecould pick one up tomorrow, but probably easier to order a FRER. Are they the same (ish)? Im going to do the same two tests tomorrow, and if they show lines I've got a digital...

How far along are you @LaTable?

LaTable · 17/05/2025 19:35

15 weeks now. Which is funny because I ovulated a week late but baby grew an extra week between 9w and 13w!

Give it an extra day if you can on the retest. I didn't have any progress on my next day tests and it bummed me out and made me anxious but the day after was more obvious

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 17/05/2025 19:38

Are you finding out what you're having? Have you got others? Sorry, I can't remember 🙈

I might be able to wait for the digital but not for the normal ones 🤣

LaTable · 17/05/2025 19:52

Yes on both counts! A 8yo and a 6yo, both girls
Hoping this one is a boy because honestly the amount of girl drama with these two already is more than enough 😅😅😅

Is this your first? I also cannot remember hahaha

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 17/05/2025 20:08

Oh I can imagine! Wait until they're teenagers 🤣 I've got a 4 year old boy! I alternate between thinking I'd like another boy and I'd like a girl haha.. so I think it's a win win!

curliegirlie · 17/05/2025 22:34

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate yeah FRERs and Boots tests are pretty similar. FRERs are slightly more sensitive, but the Boots early ones are obv easier and cheaper to get hold of!

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 18/05/2025 05:22

Which one? Standard test or 5 days early?!

5 days early! That measures HCG of 10miu compared to the 20 or 25 of the standard.
