It may just be my computer ( no broad band in the sticks!)but the other thread was taking a long while to load and accept new messages so maybe we can start again here...

yes, listen to your body - it is more reliable than an OPK. It made me really upset and confused when I didnt get the line to match what seemed to be ovulation. Like you i didnt tend to believe it without proof. But in the end i went with my body rather than the OPK and I got pregnant. There are a couple of really good websites incuding fertilityuk.org ( i think) which take you through the whole thing.

Anyone else noticed that Sprout has joined the November/December babies thread - looks like her pink line was real..... Congratulations Sprout!!

elliott · 14/03/2003 11:05

dot1, I'd go for it....remember its better to be too early than too late (sperm live longer than eggs, so ideally you want the sperm to be there before you ovulate....) Good luck, it must be very stressful with your donor being so far away.

elliott · 14/03/2003 11:08

well, things have been pretty touch and go this treatment cycle...I thought I was heading for around 7 eggs, but at egg collection only managed a pitiful three....and we now have just one embryo to transfer tomorrow - let's hope its a fighter!!

Good luck for your test jane101, and hope your period starts soon, bayleaf. Will your FET be medicated or natural cycle?

sprout · 14/03/2003 11:16

Jaybee, well noticed! I hadn't got round to posting here: you were all right. A faint pink line is still a pink line... Good luck to the rest of you.

bayleaf · 14/03/2003 20:07

Oh elliott - how stressful - there are just soooo many hoops to jump thru' aren't there? - and so many potential pitfalls....
My closest friend did ivf in September - only one embryo and is now very pregnant - Good luck!!!!!

Good luck elliot. I also know someone who only had 1 egg, 1 embryo and now has a 4 yr old dd. And of course, my own son is a result of just 1 egg (through iui).

Bayleaf, you're right there's no way I'm lasting until Saturday before testing. I've now convinced myself I've got a strange taste in my mouth and that could be a symptom of pregnancy. But I suppose it could also be due to the cyclogest. Anyway, at least I'm getting towards the end of the 2ww now. You've still got it all to come.

Jane101 · 19/03/2003 14:30

Negative test today - but then period's not due until tomorrow, so that doesn't really prove anything. Yesterday, I was sure I was pregnant as I had a really strong taste in my mouth. Today, that's gone and I'm pretty sure I'm not. Tomorrow - who knows? Bother!

elliott · 19/03/2003 15:33

hi Jane, sorry about the negative but I guess it doesn't rule anything out at this stage....frustrating isn't it? Are you 14 days post IUI now? Do you get a blood test from your clinic?
I'm finding time dragging already.

Jane101 · 20/03/2003 13:38

hi elliot. Yes - it's 14 days today. I did another test (of course) which was also negative. There's still a chance, but realistically I don't think it's worked this time. Oh well.... (again). I hope you soon have better news.

elliott · 20/03/2003 13:54

Oh Jane I'm sorry...but still no period?? Are your IUIs natural cycle or do you need to take drugs (you probably already 'said' but I can't be bothered to scroll down...)? will you be able to try again next cycle if it really hasn't worked this time?

I'm as sure as I can be that it hasn't worked for me. Lots of period like cramps, which I definitely didn't have last time. So feeling a bit mis today and sort of hoping my period shows up to put me out of my misery - not due to test for another 7 days.

bayleaf · 20/03/2003 19:36

Jane - I'll keep my fingers crossed - I know just how you feel though - the slight glimmer of possible hope stops you coming to terms with the negative, grieving and them moving on - you feel like you're in some horrible limboland.

elliott - many people who I've read on the boards (and two I know personally) had awful cramps and then were pregnant - it's probably just the cyclogest...
Bon courage!

Moomin · 20/03/2003 20:48

I did a test 4 days before period was due - negative. Too bloody impatient to wait until proper time. Very strong "negative" line. Have felt quite sick but no sore boobs like with dd. Spose I just have to wait until period's properly due now. Can you get a strong false negative if you take the test too early?

Jane101 · 21/03/2003 21:04

bayleaf and elliot - thanks for understanding. Bayleaf - you're exactly right. I know perfectly well it hasn't worked but there is just that small chance.... My period hasn't started yet today (but I don't think it's actually late yet - based on the iui timings it was due today). Another negative test today (do they really expect us to wait 3 days between tests?).

Elliot - it was a natural cycle, which does make it better in a way. I'm sure it's worse with ivf when you've been through such a lot just to get to the point of trying. We can't try next month due to dh's schedule, so I'm working on convincing myself that another January baby (3 years exactly after ds) would be perfect.

I hope you're wrong and you have been lucky this time.

elliott · 24/03/2003 11:44

Jane, what is your news today?

I am very much stuck in limboland - no more cramps so keep getting optimistic and find myself on flights of fantasy about choosing buggies etc...then have to bring myself back to reality. hmmm, can definitely handle despair better than hope...this is agonising!!

This feels a bit like trying to get pregnant when you can only have sex once every six months. But more expensive of course

elliott · 24/03/2003 12:08

oh, and not as much fun either

Jane101 · 24/03/2003 15:35

Hi elliot, I'm with you in limboland unfortunately. I'm now 3 days late, so by this morning I'd convinced myself Friday's negative test was wrong. I lay there from 5:30am waiting for it to be time to get up, so I could go and do another test - negative of course. Why do we do this to ourselves? No other pregnancy symptoms and I know Cyclogest can affect the length of your cycle so I'm sure that's all it is.

Is it Thursday you're due to test?

elliott · 24/03/2003 15:44

Jane, don't your clinic do a blood test for hCG? At least then you have someone telling you for definite....are you just supposed to decide when to stop the cyclogest yourself? this must be incredibly frustrating for you.

I get a blood test on Thursday but I will definitely home test before then. If I'm sensible I will wait till Thursday morning...

Jane101 · 24/03/2003 15:52

elliot, I don't think they do a blood test, but maybe I should ask. My instructions were to do a home test on Saturday, and keep on with the cyclogest unless I got both a negative result and a period. They did ask me to let them know the results, so maybe there're expecting me to contact them and would then suggest a blood test. I don't know, 3 days doesn't seem late enough to be significant. I think if I'm still in limbo in a few days' time I'd better contact them.

"Sensible"? What's that?

elliott · 24/03/2003 16:03

Personally, I would give them a ring sooner - presumably you'll run out of cyclogest before long anyway?
I know its common practice with a lot of clinics to leave you to home test, even with IVF, but I've always thought that was rather unsatisfactory and unsympathetic - they must realise how we are hanging on waiting and hoping...

Last time I tested on a Sunday and had my blood test on the Monday - had a very weak +ve on my home test but a strong +ve on the blood test, so I know that there is really no point in trying anything before Weds and it would be better to wait till thurs - that's only 14 days post egg collection anyway.

Jane101 · 24/03/2003 16:12

I suppose really I'm just worried about appearing stupid for still hoping the test's wrong in the circumstances. I don't feel the slightest bit pregnant.

I don't think it really does any harm testing early. Except that it's pretty discouraging to keep seeing those negative results (and expensive of course). Good luck anyway (that seems such an inadequate phrase).

elliott · 24/03/2003 16:32

I'm sure they won't mind - I would imagine it happens all the time!

I think I am going to go and buy some magic Boots tests tonight (mentioned on the other thread as being the first to show a +ve). At least I will feel I am doing something!

I don't feel at all pregnant either But then I can't remember much about this stage last time, except suddenly feeling exhausted - and that's more of a normal state of affairs these days!!

bayleaf · 24/03/2003 17:51

OH reading all this brings it all back so clearly .....
You're very restrained elliott ! - I worked on the basis that I'd spent thousands so what was another few tens on tests??? I just HAD to test and test again - the waiting was so awful that if there was a chance of knowing early and getting out of it 'the wait' by seeing a positive then I had to take it - and plenty of people on the boards seemed to get it 11-12 days post EC.

Jane you'd be very, very odd if you could make yourself believe that you weren't pregnant before your period came - lets face it most of us have to be 'flooded' before we'll accept it - even a trickle doesn't convince!

I'm in an annoying situation now in that my period has been delayed so long now that the FET is threatening a weekend at The Bell in Malmsbury( one of those nice places with childcare on the Mumsnet survey) which we've booked with friends - I don't want to miss it but neither do I want to cancel the FET - so I've talked to the consultant and we've provisionally agreed to go for a medicated FET cycle ( which bizarrely is the same price as a natural cycle, possibly because there are less scans)as with the down reg this will take the transfer much later and miss the weekend...It's never simple is it!?

OP posts:
mindy · 24/03/2003 23:00

Oh bayleaf I was the opposite - I was determined to hang on for 14 days before testing and tried to ignore any possible early pregnancy feelings/signs until the test - I knew that if I did test early and it was a negative result I would just keep kidding myself that it was too early and would try again in a day or so and the constant anticipation and possible failure would make me even more overwrought. By waiting I could think positive thoughts and try to relax(!) about it potentially being a good result until the test day and then deal with it one way or another.

Our clinic advised us to do a home test 14 days after transfer and then phone them with the results, their view was the home tests, (clear blue and another whose name I forget) were as reliable as any urine test they would do.

Saying that - when I did get a positive result I then went into panic overdrive and ended up spending a small fortune testing every couple of days because I could not believe I was still pregnant and seeing that line appear was amazing.

Hope all goes well with you all this month, good luck

elliott · 25/03/2003 09:13

I suppose I am more along mindy's lines really - I want a test result that means something, not one which leaves me pondering more questions! And I am thinking it will be negative so I don't want to torture myself by doing lots and lots of negative tests.
Not long to go now though....
bayleaf, sorry the timing isn't working out for you. hope you can get started soon!
